- Just did this recently. We used a half inch of high grade plywood for the base sheet, then on top of that a half inch sheet of backerboard. Adhere the plywood to the vanity with a liquid nails as well as actual nails. Adhere the backerboard to the plywood with thinset and hardibacker screws. Obviously you'll need to cut out the sinkholes in both. After that, you're ready to tile. Use the smallest groutlines as possible for a countertop, in my opinion. Be sure to seal the tile when you're done. I know how to tile, but I despise it (especially some of the intricate stuff involved in countertops), so I just hired the tiling done.
- Q:I want to know how to make tile based map in java. Retro games used tiled maps (to ease programming and memory management) but those games were created in assembly language. I know basic java. Now I want to make a 2d game in java, starting with a pretty basic 2d platformer type or top-down type. - a lot of different types of tiles are mounted on a mesh backing. they are usually small tiles on 12x12 sheets or oblong design pieces used as a border or transition. if you saw sheets or tile with a mesh backing that had a piece of paper that peeled off, then chances are it's glass tile. the mesh goes toward the wall and paper peeled off after installation. glass tiles are the only tiles i've seen with the paper layer on them. they can be rather pricey--usually between $20-35 per foot. check with your local tile distributor and look at their selection of glass tiles and see what else they might off that catches your fancy. :) good luck!

- Your best answer will be on the tile boxes or on the bags of thinset. Generally you need a 1' subfloor, 1 1/4 being better. Most tile setters like small grout lines with this type of tile using toothpicks as spacers. Using the latex admix will help with expansion and contraction cracking. Keep the installation area well above freezing before, during and until cured, also do not let it get excessively low in humidity, as this will cause cracking from drying too fast. Always work your way out of an area, to avoid walking on freshly laid tile. Every so often pick up a just laid tile and check for 90%+ coverage of adhesive. - i am guessing that you mean ceramic tile first i would recommed using a sealer on it, after you seal it all you need to do is damp mop it. check manufactures instructions on application
