Q: I have Brazilian Walnut flooring throughout my downstairs. I have used every wood cleaning product known to man and still have dull floors. The latest thing I did was apply amonia to strip the floor of all of the products I have used and WOW what a mistake! I can now see splatters and scrub marks all over. Can someone please offer any advise??
The floor may be dull from the different products used on it. You may consider hiring a hardwood floor contractor to buff and recoat the floor. This is a very simple process that usually runs $1 per square foot and takes only about 1-2 hours to do. This will remove some surface scratches and bring back the shine for a fraction of the cost of a full sand and refinish. It involves very little mess. Then after you have the floors recoated use Bona hardwood floor cleaner. they even make a spray mop similar to the wet swiffer.
Q: How I can I simplify the floor function; insted of using the special floor markers or function (e.g. floor (f(x)) I can express x without the use of the special loor marker or function.
The short answer: you can't. The longer answer: it depends largely on your function inside the floor function, and how much uglier you're willing to make the function. Certainly floor(constant) is simply a constant, floor(sin(x)) is relatively simple to describe: -1 on intervals (2pi*n-pi, 2pi*n), 0 on intervals [2pi*n, 2pi*n+pi/2) U (2pi*n+pi/2, 2pi*n+pi], and 1 at points 2pi*n+pi/2. You could also perhaps make some limiting procedure, like an infinite-degree polynomial, to describe things. I'm not positive how to go about trying this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it could be worked out somehow. Finally, you could cheat and just say floor(x) = x - fpart(x), where fpart(x) represents the fractional part of x. That's hardly a help though, as fpart isn't nicely defined either. This is essentially what the last answerer was doing with the modulus, although depending on how exactly you define the modulus it shouldn't give you problems with negative values; dividing -2.3 by 1 would actually give you a remainder of .7, and so x-(x&1)= -3, as desired. (Remainders are usually restricted to be between zero and the divisor.)
Q: I am about to remodel my kitchen in my mobile home. I am going to tile the floor, replace the cabinets and replace the sheet rock. I am not sure if I will replace the sheet rock with a backer board and tile the walls or with sheet rock and paint the walls. My question is, should I, after tearing out the old cabinets and old floor, install the new cabinets first then tile the floor or tile the floor then install the new cabinets?
As an installer ...it definately looks nicer if your tiles go under the cabinets. If money is an issue ...you can reduce your costs by MAPPING out on the floor where the cabinets are going and not tile all the floor. Also, It is much easier to tile without cabinets so you may actually save additional money from your installer if they know that no cabinets will be installed.
Q: I want to redo my kitchen floor (ugly 1970 looking linoleum) in a 120-year old farm house. I want to do something unique that fits with a primitive look (knotty pine walls, original doors and woodwork). I have a pallet of old slate roof shingles that were salvaged from the barn when it was torn down. Most are still in very good shape and I was wondering if there was any way to incorporate this material into the flooring. Can this be used to tile the floor? I'm looking for anyone with info on using slate for flooring - pros, cons and so on. I'd also like info on recommended thickness, type of adhesive, grout, etc.? I've done ceramic tile and refinished hardwood floors, so I have some basic flooring experience. Thanks in advance for any information!
I have a slate floor and it
Q: Is it okay to wax vinyl floors? Does it help extend th elife of the floors or does it hurt them?
yes wax protects vinyl floors, make sure the floor is clean and free of any detergents,if possible apply the wax with a synthetic mop, dont put more than 1 coat next to the baseboards because it will never wear off , 3 or 4 coats in the traffic lanes, make sure you allow 30 mins drying time between coats, pre-soak your mop in clean water before putting your mop in the wax.(you dont want your mop to soak up and hold a half gallon of expensive wax.) put down even thin coats of wax. after your beautiful floor has dried you need to remember to keep it dust mopped and keep your mopping to a minimum with a very mild cleaner, keep your rugs and mats vacummed as sand and dirt on the bottom of shoes are just like sandpaper. if you need to touch-up the floor after a few months make sure the floor is clean and re-apply one coat of wax. p.s. stripping damaged wax can be a real problem if you dont have the right equipment or experience, most people do it one time and then hire a pro.(me) lol. good luck.
Q: What is the meaning of composite floor speed, how to test
Composite floor surgery called impregnated paper laminated wood floor, the number of revolutions refers to the surface of the wear resistance of the measured value, the national standard is more than 4000 rpm, the general for the wear resistance in terms of the higher the value that the more wear , This value is through a special wear-resistant instrument for testing, you can see the reference link is the wear-resistant instrument of the picture.
Q: What cleaning products would best work for cleaning laminate flooring?
use an old fashioned broom then dust mop as often as you'd like! once a month or as needed -- 1 gallon of hot water & 1 cup white vinager! just use a clean soft cloth, ring so it's not sopping and wipe away! it works great and is a natural disenfectant! just don't leave water standing. i do mine about twice a year and the dust mop technique weekly or for spot shines.
Q: i just moved into a home that has parquet floor through the house but is covered by carpet in almost all rooms i want to know how much it cost to fix up the floor after removing the carpet, i already heard its a whole lot of work
Most of your parquet flooring is only a 3/8 ths and 1/2 thick and is a laminated product and can t be sanded down a lot. It would depend also if the flooring is a wax or a urethane finish.. You may have to call in a flooring person to get a look at it and determine exectly what you need to do.. It may be as simple as re waxing it.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
Q: Does anyone have any ideas or a process they use to clean their laminate floor so it looks good?
I have used the floor cleaners designed for Pergo floor, and find that they stink and do eventually leave a build up. The best thing that I have found is made my Pledge. It is a wood cleaner, make sure it says cleaner and not polish. Mist onto the floor and use a microfiber mop and clean the floor going with the grain. The cleaner leaves the room smelling good, and you can use the cleaner on other things in your home as well
Q: Can radiant floor heating be installed in the concrete pour, then after concrete has sufficiently cured (28 days) can a resinous coating, such as a epoxy/polyurethane floor coating be installed on a floor that will later be radiant heated. My concern is that these coatings are very moisture intolerant. Does radiant floor products, create any moisture in the slab that could rise to the surface. Does changes in temps affect the moisture levels in concrete. Electric radiant floor products seem to be best.Pipes filled with hot water to me is a concern. Do the pipes "sweat" causing condensation or are they wrapped. I am currently on a large project and these questions are coming up in the design forum.
RADIANT FLOOR HEAT WITH WATER IS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO HEAT A FLOOR. IT DOSE NOT SWEAT. WE HAVE A 9000 SQ. FT. SHOP ALL IN FLOOR HEAT WITH A GEO THERMAL HEAT/ COOLING. PAYBACK ON THE EXTRA COST OF GEO THERMAL IS 7 YEARS. ALL OUR FLOORS ARE EPOXY SEALED.
