Make sure you let the doctor know that it has become unbearable and that the children (who are the most important in this kind of situation) are suffering badly, with their sleeping, their school life and their health. - Q:Sorry the question may be a liitle long, but I want to be clear about what I am asking.Is not it that a Flat-floor, rather than a level floor is needed for tile/hardwood installation. A lot of times due to foundation shift, you could not make a level floor, or it would be out of sink with tha adjoining rooms. If I am right:Are there complication with with Tile/Hardwood over a flat, but not a level floor.To flatten out a floor, I am told to use a 6' straight edge and find the gaps. But, if I move this straight edge even a foot to the left, or right of where I started, the gaps under the straight edge would be moving elsewhere, the prior gaps would now be flat with the staight edge.I am all confused. Can you help please.
- You are correct in stating the a flat-floor is okay for tiling (or hardwood or whatever). What you have to be most concerned about is that each piece of any given floor covering lays flat and true on the substrate below. For tile as an example: perhaps an 12 x 12 tile would rock on a hump or bump, but 2 6 x 6's, would go up and over the irregularity laying tight against the floor, that would be fine. So the short answer is flat and true is more important than level.

You wring out the mop, mop, clean in the solution, wring, mop, etc. Then clean mop in clear water and rinse floor by going over it again, changing water from time to time. The put a big bath towel under each foot and skate the floor dry to eliminate water streaks.

- Q:I pulled up my old vinyl kitchen flooring (7 years old) and found that the underlayment is in great shape except that the original vinyl was just glued about 3 inches around the entire perimeter. I scraped the old glue as best as possible and it is almost perfectly level with the rest of the floor. Does it need to be perfectly smooth where it meets the unglued edge or is a slight ridge OK to keep it from showing through the new vinyl flooring? I do have floor "sizing" that I plan to use where there are any nicks or impressions. Should I use the sizing around the edges and taper to the good flooring or am I overdoing this project? I plan to lay new vinyl flooring this wekend. I'd appreciate any good advice. PS: I also tried sanding the old glue to take off any high ridges using 80 paper. Thanks
- when installing sheet vinyl the surface has to be as smooth as possible. the floor preparation is a good idea. but be careful that the wood subfloor wont get to damaged with the water that is in the prep. Minor scraping and patching should be fine. and as far ridges they will eventually show up..
- Q:I am looking at a home from 1939. i know asbestos was used from like the1970's back very often.i want to lay down different flooring in the kitchen,however i do now want to mess with the removal of the crap(asbestos)is there a way to put flooring down without having to get all this professional removal done. and no i don't want to mess with doing it myself either.
- Depending on the type of new flooring you are wanting to put in. If you don't want to deal with the removal aspect you can install any floating floor over the existing such as laminate or cork. You can also install a new sub floor directly over the existing flooring then install your choice of new floor product such as sheet vinyl, ceramic etc. The asbestos content in flooring is only a concern if it becomes an airborne dust particle, therefore sanding the existing flooring is a not recommended and removal should be left to trained people for liability issues. You can also have the flooring checked for asbestos content would should cost between $75 and $100 from any local asbestos abatement company. They would require a small piece of the existing flooring to examine.
