- Q: I am looking to research the best way to upgrade my 1950's flat-top home without loosing too much of it's orginal look, but expanding some room areas. I have gone though the DIY website and This Old House? The plans came back from the Artchitect, but I really am looking for some epansion, deocarting ideas for smaller rooms, and style ohter than quot;Botter Barn IKEA look? What I want is my original style, but I need some inspiration because I'd like to keep the 1950's look with a twist of a modern yet Artistic style. Any website suggestions, books, magazines? I already have BH G, House So Beautiful, and so forth. I want ideas that are hard to find because of their originality. Thank You!
- I would start by looking through old 1950's magazines. Such as House Beautiful - Better Homes Gardens, you would not believe how much inspiration you can get, plus, there are design plans and decorating ideas. I have a bunch of the magazines from the 40's 50's. I look at them all the time. You can buy them pretty reasonable from OKorder. Just search under magazines, back issues. If you want I could probably mail you one to get you started and give you a better idea of what I'm talking about. Let me know.
- Q: I had an old, old version of the Better Homes and Gardens white and red checkered cookbook. I used to make an old Corn Chowder Recipe. Any one have it? or know where to get it? We're talking 50's or 60's. I can recall some of the ingredients: Brown Onions and bacon, add cubed potatoes and water. Corn, milk, bay leaf, can't remember anything else. I adapted it by putting in pieces of cooked chicken breast meat and tomato paste. Any one????
- In my edition from the mid 60s I find Supper Corn Chowder 5 slices bacon 1 medium onion, thinly sliced and separated in rings 2 cups cooked or canned whole kernel corn 1 cup diced cooked potatoes 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup 2 1/2 cups milk 1 teaspoon salt Cook bacon till crisp in large sauce pan. Remove bacon; pour off drippings. returning 3 tablespoons to pan. Add onion and cook till lightly browned. Add remaining ingredients and dash pepper. Heat to boiling reduce heat and simmer a minute or two. Top each serving with crumbled bacon and butter. Makes 6 servings.
- Q: so i went and bought a bunch of veggie seeds. i understand that i need to let them root before i put them in ground. i live in texas, and we have heat well into the fall. is it too late for me to start, or do i need to wait until next year??? any gardening advice will be super appreciated!!!!! this is my first time trying to garden, and i want to do it right! please, any and all advice will be taken :)
- I live in Texas also. Starting seeds now is not a good idea. We don't have enough cool days ahead to give the seedlings time to grow and get strong before the hot summer hits. And when the heat starts getting way up there, small seedlings will die. I planted my seeds back in January inside under plant lights and planted some in the ground in mid March and others a few weeks ago and they were large seedlings, about 4 to 6 tall. I won't plant any more till the fall veggies go in. Best to buy some plants at the store now and save the seeds for next year.
- Q: designed to protect International banks from a bartering system? I know the government isn't enforcing the ban now, but they did write the regulations into the 2011 Food Safety and Modernization Act for a reason. And bartering is becoming very popular in Europe as a way to not participate in global currency. Many people are bartering on Craigslist these days.
- The 2011 Food Safety and Modernization Act does not ban home gardening.
- Q: i have bugs cutting into my leaves of the plants on my garden is there a cheep home remedy to get rid of them?
- assuming you have a garden sprayer, the oldest remedy for plant bugs is a simple soap solution - you can add to it if you wish, a drop or two of essential oils - lavender and citronella are favourite. If you grow rhubarb, the leaves can also be made into an insecticidal spray.
- Q: I'm a naturist, I stay naked in my home, defecate in my garden and eat local animals... Why the complaints?
- We live in a society where nakedness is frowned upon. Defecation in the garden is quite unhygienic. So of course people are gonna complain.
- Q: Sunset or Better homes and gardens?
- sophisticated stuff browse at search engines like google it can help
- Q: Why is the government raiding farmers markets and wanting to inspect home gardens?????Why do they feel they need to knock off competitors
- They are making sure that you are not bringing vegetation from other countries or growing illegal plants. i recently got back from a trip from dubai and we had dried limes and other things they confiscated because they were illegal this will all change with a matter of time.
- Q: the state of new mexico will allow medical marijuana to be legally grown by persons who qualify for it. federal law enforcement officials may still be able to arrest those who DO grow marijuana for possession.
- With the state of our (dis)Union I would expect a law enforcement nightmare as every and any political rat catches wind of the cheese. Personally I believe it a good idea, and New Mexico an excellent place to grow such a crop. I think the state's Department of Agriculture and their experts are probably the best ones to say where, and the state should do the licensing and quality control. The feds should stay the heck out. When I was in College there was a big thing among the students about the secret pot fields around town. After graduation I returned there to do my clinical training at the State Hospital, part of that included night duty rounds with the local police force. I found this very enlightening as they took me around and showed me all the gardens we thought were close kept secrets. They said this supply was far safer than having a lot of marijuana coming in from outside, and the local growing conditions meant it was less potent. With two colleges in town it made for far fewer problems. It was also interesting to be given a tour of the crime lab and see a wall sized photograph of a student demonstration in the town square. It was a beautiful candlelight march and had been taken by an excellent Federal agency photographer, and there I was right dead center. I should have got Nixon's autograph. The local police got to keep a copy as art work. It explained why there were funny clicks on my phone line and unexplained calls at 2 and 4 a.m. It is wonderful to live in a free and democratic country. Vicodan and Compazine better and more effective drugs? Have you looked in the PDR lately? Incidentally I am a non-user. I have no personal brief or vendetta on this issue but I have ministered to a good number of terminal patients on Hospice who could find relief by no other means. Compazine in some of these patients produced severe liver disfunction.
