Q:If you have a home garden, and you grow more than what you can use, what do you do with the extra? Do you give it to friends and family or do you give it to those in need by way of food pantries at churches or a food bank? Do you give it to homeless shelters? Or do you just let it rot and throw it away?
Vey good we should all grow our own food Its the only way to be sure that it is OK these days We give most exstra food to friends ,ad the rotten stuff is for the wild boar ,the rabbit and the squirrels eat a lot of mangos. I like the idea of giving it to the poor. In Africa ,the top grade stuff went to the restaurant kitchen,or we sold it to visitors . And the rest went to the people working the gardens. anything rotten was for the animals. If you go to the trouble of growing food, which is a lot of work ,it would be crazy to let any of it just go to waste.
Q:the space available is about 3x1.5 ft.i prefer nice flower plantslive in chennai, indiaany suggstions??
The first answer was absolutely right on - BUT have you considered xeroscaping? (using native plants to conserve water) Use nice (big and smaller) rocks and various sizes of flowering plants, make a small hill and use small rocks to create a dry stream bed, plant only perrennials so you don;'t have to keep replanting every year. Use annuals sparingly just for color. And to see what grows really well, look at your neighbors' yards - what are they growing and how do they look? Happy Gardening!
Q:I want to stretch a garden hose along the wall of my mobile home to keep it off the ground. What kind of hook do I need?
electrical 1 hole straps would work. look in electrical department at lowes and such.
Q:Does anyone know of some good beauty tips, using common items found around the house?im looking for things to improve hair, nails, skin etc..
put okorder and go to the health and beauty section orsomething like that
Q:my garden is not to big so plant that dont consume much space will do
It really depends on what vegetables you like the most. What is important to me might be different than what's important to you. It all depends on your taste. Make a list of what vegetables you like and eat the most. Once you have populated the list with your favorite vegetables, circle the ones you want to grow the most. Once you have those then you can figure out what to grow in your space. If space is at a premium look for compact versions of your favorite vegetables, or vegetables that can be grown vertically ( up a trellis). This saves space because the plants grow up instead of on the ground. Many vegetables can be grown in containers, too. These are tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, lettuces, peppers, etc. To save room, if you like tomatoes try 'Patio' or 'Better Bush' - cucumbers try 'Spacemaster' or 'Bush Champion'. The most popular vegetables grown in most home gardens are tomatoes, cucumbers, summer squash, eggplant, green beans, peppers, carrots and greens ( lettuce, arugula, spinach, etc).

Q:I'm looking for a certain picture of a home from one of the magazines articles. Is there a place I can see their old Magazines?
Try the library or ask the librarian about internet searches....they are very helpful about this and may be able to get a back issue for you.
Q:same sort of context as 'good housekeeping' home/garden/family/fashion/weddings/shopping etc
One of the best out there is ivillage. I am attaching a link to this site. ivillage is a combination of everything you listed above... They have home/garden/family/love/career/beauty/ho... decorating...etc,etc... You can also try Oxygen online.
Q:I am moving into my first house this spring. I live in eastern ontario, so, the summers are hot and the winters are very cold - people here don't normally put flowers outside until the middle-end of May.What should I do with my new available garden space??I would like to plant flowers and vegetables.I have planted vegetables on my balcony before, in pots. But never in a real garden.Where do I even start?
I live in Zone 4 and understand the problem of a Spring start (you are probably in Zone 3). My first year at the new home, I started plants indoors to be transplanted when it won't be another freeze; this was for vegetables and flowers (unless plan to buy pre-started). Get a soil kit to understand current soil conditions. May need to add top soil or fertilized soil into upper 3 of garden area. Spring time, I drafted my entire yard on graph paper using each square as 1'. I signed up for Gurney's catalog (can do this through web site) so I can pick out perennials that would suit me according to zone, color, time/length of blooms, height, sun/partial/shade, soil, etc.. Each winter I order more to add to redo in any part of yard including a fountain. With the one time exact measurement on my graph paper, I was able to determine how many trees in the back yard and measurement for fencing, etc.. (The graph paper is also used for each floor of the home to determine sq ft for paint, flooring, curtains, rearranging furniture.)
Q:Balcony garden decoration needs to pay attention to what places?
