Q: Most of the over 55 year old communities have very small lots. There are some of us that are fit and like to work in large gardens. I cant find a community that offers the security of being gated and still have homes with one or more acres.

Q: I live in San Diego, Ca,, pretty sunny most of the year, but can get pretty cold in the winter.. I'm hoping to start my own veggie and herb garden this summer (august 08) but don't know if it's the right season to do it, or if I should just wait. Since I'm just starting, I would like to begin with herbs and a few veggies (tomatoes, lettuce, zucchini, snap peas, peppers) do these grow well in this area???As to prepping the ground, after loosening it, weeding it, what needs to be done??Thank you!
I'm in inland San Diego county and have a veggie and herb garden growing, but started it a little earlier in the spring. You still should be okay starting tomatos, zucchini, peppers and peas, but it is a little too hot for starting Iettuce right now. All will do fine because we have such a long growing season. As for herbs, oregano, thyme, sage, parsley and chives are all doing well, but the basil this year looked terrible just about everywhere. If you are inland, we have DG soil, which you will need to amend (you can use compost or a product called amend that you add and work into the soil. If you don't amend the soil, water doesn't saturate into the soil, it will sit on the top and not get to the plant roots.) I have some of my peppers and tomatoes in containers mainly so that I can move them around the yard to see where they produce the most, but if you put them into the ground be sure to support them because they get heavy with the fruit and start to bend over breaking some of the stalks. Also, mulch around plants that are in the ground to retain the water and meet our new conservation guidelines. Nothing like growing your own veggies and sharing them with the neighborhood! Good luck.
Q: I will be trying to grow them as a special project for my 8 year old daughter to have fun in the garden and learn to grow her own food.
After the danger of frost has past, prepare some loose well-drained soil, plant peanuts 1 to 1 1/2 deep, 6 to 8 inches apart in rows 24 to 36 apart. Water as needed, Weed as needed, watch peanuts grow. Harvest when leaves start turning yellow. More info in links below:
Q: I need some home decor advice. I will be purchasing a light grey sofa with a glossy black wood coffee table and I will be purchasing a rug to place underneath. Since I want to keep my rug neutral, what advice would you recommend as in the patterns, what color will it look best with my sofa and table? Thanks!
Jute Rugs, jute furniture and jute furnishings are also the best option for home decor while giving natural look to your home.
Q: I'm just looking for monthly updates and stuff on new ideas for my home. Not really garden ideas so much. Any magazines or the like that send out free issues that you know of? Thanks.

Q: When i was young, my dad used to make us meatloaf from the Red 'Better Homes and Gardens recipe book... when my mom left, she took the book, so we don't have the recipe anymore.i am looking for the meat loaf recipe for using the microwave. I've found a copy of the baked version from BHG website, but it just isn't the same... the help would be VERY MUCH appreciated.(ingredients were eggs, milk, bread crumbs, onion, mustard, brown sugar and ketchup...)
Ingredients 2 eggs, beaten 3/4 cup milk 2/3 cup fine dry bread crumbs or 2 cups soft bread crumbs 1/4 cup finely chopped onion 2 tablespoons snipped fresh parsley 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon dried leaf sage, basil, or oregano, crushed 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef, lamb, or pork 1/4 cup ketchup 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1. In a medium bowl combine eggs and milk; stir in bread crumbs, onion, parsley, salt, sage, and pepper. Add ground meat; mix well. Lightly pat mixture into an 8x4x2-inch loaf pan. 2. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 1 to 1-1/4 hours or until internal temperature registers 160 degrees F. Spoon off fat. In a bowl combine ketchup, sugar, and mustard; spread over meat. Bake for 10 minutes more. Let stand for 10 minutes before cutting into eight slices. 3. Makes 8 servings

Q: I'm working on decorating my apartment bit by bit and I've come to where I want to get a living room rug. The room is about 12x15ft so everything is rather close together. All the walls are beige/off-white and so is the couch in the middle of the room. Each of the pieces of furniture (desk, side table, coffee table, tv stand) are a dark wood, and so is the wood floor, and the main color accents in the room are red, orange, yellow, olive green, and blue-green, with some colorful art I've been making for the walls. Basically, every color that has red or yellow in it.
Red is pretty. I'd shoot for a company going out of business, can get a 3k persian rug for $150 in some places. - I live in Illinois, 23, think and spend wisely -- but, look good. :)
