Q: recipe for tamales, better homes and gardens magazine, december 2004 issue, i think it was on the last page?: Ingredients 1 2 1/2 lb boneless pork 3/4 c Shortening 10 c Water 6 c MASA HARINA 1 md Onion; quartered 1 1/2 ts Baking powder 3 Cloves garlic minced About 50 dried corn husks; 4 c Red chili sauce Instructions In a 4 1/2 to 5 quart dutch oven bring pork, water, onion, garlic, and 1 1/2 t salt to boiling. Simmer, covered, about 2 1/4 hrs until meat is very tender. Remove meat from broth and cool Using two forks, shred meat, discarding fat. You should have 3 1/2 to 4 c shredded meat. Strain broth and reserve 5-6 cups. In a 3 quart saucepan, heat the red chili sauce and add shredded meat. Simmer, covered about 10 minutes. For MASA: beat shortening with a mixer on medium for 1 minute. Stir together MASA HARINA, baking powder and 2 t salt. Alternately add MASA HARINA mixture and broth to shortening, beating well after each addition. Add just enough broth to make a thick creamy paste. Soak corn husks in warm water for 5 minutes then rinse to remove and corn silk and debris. Drain. To assemble each tamale, spread 2 T MASA mixture in the center of a husk. Place 1 T meat sauce in the middle of the MASA. Fold in sides of husk then fold up bottom. Place a mound of extra husks in the center of a steamer basket in a dutch oven and put tamales in basket, open end up. Bring water to boiling. Reduce heat. Q: I want to build a botanical garden in the town I live in, it will be a private land that is not for profit company and open to public for a few dollars. What are resources I can use to get me started on the research for this project, remember its large scale so small garden info isn't that useful.I have found lots of gardening design/plant/etc info but its all for small scale, I am going to be building a several acre garden.What considerations should I think about?How much space?What plants?Legal issues?What about designs, information on design of large scale parks?: Well you have to get a really,, really lot of plants that people would want to pay money to your non profit garden so they could see what a wonder you had built . Q: I am doing a traveling boutique featuring children's and a few womens clothing and accessories some of which I make and some I buy. What I am trying to figure out is my sales are pretty good at the shows I've done so far but I was hoping to get outside of my friends to hold shows and have not been successful in booking new shows. What kind of incentives should I do? I offered a tiered plan based on sales some free some discounted based on $ volumn. Should I make something that is for hosts only? Any advise related to this would be helpful. Is it okay to ask the host to help? Keep in mind that I do not do a presentation--it is an open house for a couple of hours and set up like a boutique in someones living room.: Have you considered setting up a booth at a County Fair or Home Garden Show? At least check out the other vendors there and ask what kind of incentives they offer if people sign up to book shows. Some have a drawing for a free gift basket, and at the bottom of the card people can check boxes indicating that they want more information about booking a party. (Have your planner handy; it is even better if you can book them on the spot.)
