Q: Local nurseries are in business to sell stuff. Every garden question I have always come with some product they have to sell. I call it my $20 answer. The people at answers have been great. Thank you. Unfortunatly what does well for you in New York or Denver isn't much help to me where I live down here by the Mexican boarder in California. I am in need of answers that will help in my back yard. Answers without a price tag. Any suggestions? Thanks to all you wonderful gardeners where ever you live!
Ask a MASTER GARDENER for FREE expert advise for all your local garden questions advise. You will not find a Master Gardener at any store (re: Home Depot. Target, etc) or nursery as Master Gardeners are not allowed to use their title for any commercial or for profit business. Anyone claiming to be a Master Gardener working for ant business should be turned in to County government. They would be dismissed and loose their state certification. But chances are anyone claiming to be a Master Gardener in a commercial business is surving you a line of bull. MASTER GARDENERS are usually found at County offices of the County Farm Advisor's office or your local State Univ. Cooperative Extension office. MASTER GARDENERS are highly trained VOLUNTEERS. Wonderful folks who donate their time and energy to help others with their home gardening needs. Many wait for years on a long list of volunteers before offered a chance at training to become a MASTER GARDENER. Active MASTER GARDENERS must put in a minimum amout of hours and ongoing continuing education each year inorder to be recertified each year. Noone will know more about your own, local garden problems, growing conditions plants then your own local MASTER GARDENERS. MASTER GARDENER sights are located in all 50 states most of Canada. Almost every major County in the United States will have a MASTER GARDENER program. If the Master Gardener on duty can't answer your question he or she is linked to all the ag experts your County or State has to offer. MASTER GARDENERS like to brag, no question ever goes unanswered! And their answers are always THE BEST ANSWER. Find them on the web, or your local phone book under County Government or your State Univ. coop extension service.
Q: How can i get a water flower at home or garden?
By water flower, you mean a water lily, or water hyacinth, or the like? You can make a small water garden yourself by making a small pond, or even lining a half barrel, or other large container, and making a small container water garden. The garden center near me stocks water garden plants starting around May 1st (too cold right now), but if you live someplace warm, you may be able to find them earlier. You can also mail order online, as water lilies can be shipped dormant very easily.
Q: Neat idea. No risk of theft, tampering, or weather damage.
yes if you got an area where you get lot of sun and where can put up with the bugs .
Q: I live in an apartment without a patio but I have two E/W facing windows, so I pretty much always have some sunlight. Are there any relatively small plants(herbs, maybe?) that can be grown indoors, in a small planter, and without a whole lot of light? Also, having a planter that hangs out of a window isn't an option because there is a brick quot;lipquot; right outside both windows.
most herbs will grow in a winow garden. If you check out the home and garden section of most stores they even sell small kits compleate with pots, seeds and soil. Ivy will grow inside well as well as poka dot plant a neat little plant with pink dots on the leaves. Some kinds of Hosta stay small and it thrives in partial sun.
Q: I just got him 3 days ago. I feed him at 7am and then take him out for 15-20 minutes to potty, at 10am i leave to work and leave a little bit of food and water. I work from 10am-6pm (2-3 days a week), and i can't come by at lunch. My neighbor has agreed to check up on him, but not i'm not sure if at 12 or 1. He's already peed and pooped all over the living room and i know that's normal for a puppy because they can't hold it too long.Around 6:30-7pm i feed him again and then take him outside for another 15-20 minutes. I noticed that he doesn't like to be on the sidewalk and is usually messing around where ever there is grass. My question is when i'm home, How many times should i take my puppy out when i'm home? Is there a general rule? Is 15-20 minutes enough for the puppy? I don't have a backyard, it only a small area for him to walk on concrete but the front has a small grass area.Thanks.
He should also go out as soon as you get home from work and right before you go to bed and as soon as you wake up in the morning and right before you leave. He should still be going out right after he eats. He should have at least 40 min. of walking/running outside everyday (if weather permits) plus the potty breaks where you stay close to the house to speed it up. Also, you might find it better to crate train him or at least have him in a pen if you don't already while you are gone and sleeping. There should not be any food left down when it is not feeding time and especially when you are not available to take him out. And only a little water should be provided, not enough to make him need to pee. One more thing. Right now he will prefer to walk on grass because his pads are soft and tender. On your walks you should alternate between letting him walk on grass and making him walk on the road. Good luck!
Q: I've been searching for so long trying to find a decent gardening website, I need a website that's easy to navigate. The website I'm currently joining is really difficult. There's too many advertisements and the categories are so weird! I can't deter where I want to go. When I want to go to Cosmo Flowers sections, they only show, quot;flowersquot;, quot;vibrant flowersquot; ...etc. They don't give specific categories and sections. It's really a pain in the head. A nice, easy-to-navigate website would be most helpful.
The Better Homes and Gardens website has a whole section devoted to gardening. The topics are separated into easy to understand categories that make sense. You can also search the site for specific information. This site has a large amount of information on a variety of gardening topics. Refer to source referenced below...
Q: for example plants, bugs, etc
All species of dragonfly need access to water. Many species of dragonflies, including the majority of the rarer species, depend on habitats such as lakes, ponds, rivers, streams ditches, marshes and bogs for survival. Dragonfly larvae live underwater from six months to seven years before before emerging to land as an adult dragonfly. As adult dragonflies, they use the water mainly for breeding. Most dragonflies are particular about the ponds they’ll inhabit. They require shelter, sunlight, unpolluted water, emergent plants and hunting areas. Make sure the pond has less than about 30% of shade too as they need sunlight to keep warm. Lots of pond plants help to keep the pond clean, as the dragonflies are particular about where they live.
Q: I just was hired onto an overnight garden recovery, he said it was like overnight freight, but im still curious as to what exactly id be doing, if anyone who worked there knows
I think it must be that you will be getting plants in by the truckload during the overnight hours, and you will be setting them out in the plant area for the customers who come in when they open up.
Q: Which are you most likely found to be reading ?
Penthou...I mean People...LOL Home Garden actually
Q: I will be living in very south alabama, somewhat near florida. I want to make a garden in my back yard and the size of my garden is going to be 20 feet by 30 feet. What should I plant?I plan to plant marigolds since I believe bugs do not like the smell of marigolds and will stay away. Is this a good idea? How many marigolds should i plant?Tips and other information would also be appreciated.
If it is your first time gardening then before selecting any plant know about it water and sunlight need. And sunlight area of your garden also. Home gardening is always good try some flower plants (I never go for rose plant because for me its not much easy to grow) then go for herbs like mint, oregano, basil, asparagus etc. You can also grow vegetables. Believe me watching the growth of the plant is fun and gardening is really good hobby. Group your plants according to water and sunlight needs. You can use irrigation system for watering. Below is the source for installing irrigation system.
