Q: I have never purchased new carpet and do not know where to begin. What type of carpet is best for high traffic areas? This will be in our living room. Thanks for the input!
Nylon all the way. Wool is superb but very $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Saxony, Plush or Frieze with a 40oz+ face weight with a good padding----Slab Rubber and Frothed Foam are the Luxury pads...light years above Rebond. Note: Buy the best pad you can afford. The pad will make the carpet look better and last longer.
Q: What glue does the square carpet glue to the ground?
Paste method. The carpet and tile paste, along the carpet around the adhesive coated, coating width is 100 150mm, amount of glue is 0.05 kg per square meter; or on the ground with adhesive into some 1 meters square box covered with carpet.
Q: Was looking to buy a rug online from argos but didnt know whether it would be soft or not, prefer a soft rug here is the advert
Polypropylene is less soft to the touch then some other fibers like wool, nylon and polyester.
Q: Im having trouble finding a rug that I like for my living room, so I was thinking of finding a large carpet remnant to use in the space instead. Does anyone have any tips for finishing the edges of the carpet to prevent frays and little carpet fuzzies taking over my living room?
Almost any carpet store will either have on site or access to a rug binding service. When I had my store , we had the color choices of the binding and we then sent the carpet remnant out to a place that did just that, bind the edges to stop it from fraying. Ours were sent out on fridays and returned on the next friday. Just check with your local mom and pop carpet store. Most all places charge by the linear foot to bind or serge a rug. Berbers generally ran more to do this. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: I have a plain, off-white area rug that I want to dress up a little. I got the idea from a home improvement show where they used paint for the same purpose, but I don't remember the details such as what kind of paint they used or how they were able to completely cover the area desired without having the paint bleed into the rest of the rug. Anyone done this before? Tips?
I think you should use dye instead of paint. It is a rug after all....
Q: I recently moved into a duplex in an older house. The apartment is nice enough but I noticed a smell that I could never quite get rid of no matter what I did. It was almost like mildew. For the first time last night I sprinkled carpet fresh on it before vacuuming. It was the Arm and Hammer kind with baking soda plus an quot;island mistquot; scent. I noticed after the island mist smell wore off the other smell was dramatically reduced, so I'm wondering if this funky smell was coming from the carpet the whole time. What kind of bacteria can a carpet harbor?
Check that the smell is not coming from drains in the bathroom and kitchen, shared drainage in apartment blocks are often responsible for nasty smells. If you are sure it is your carpet, see if you can borrow a carpet cleaning machine from a friend or family friend -- they look like an upright vacuum. They are pretty easy to use and they work really well to clean carpet ( and backing) if you use it carefully the carpet will dry quickly and will smell fresh and be clean, In my opinion they are the next best thing to a professional!
Q: I recently bought quot;Natures Best: Urine Destroyerquot; from petsmart amp; the worker that helped me said I could use in it my carpet cleaner. I haven t used it yet, but has anyone ever used it in their carpet cleaner or know if it ll mess it up? Thanks!
If it says to use it in a carpet cleaner, then that's what you should do. It's unlikely to mess it up if you follow the instructions.
Q: I have a carpet tournament next week and i'm just curious
Compared to hard courts, carpet courts will cause the balls to bounce lower. This is because the carpet surface is more foregiving, i.e. softer, which absorbs the energy from the ball. I'd say it plays most closely to grass. Due to the friction of the surface, spins have a greater effect, eg. skidding slices. Soft and great for the joints though. The speed of the surface is dependent on the makeup material and thickness of the carpet, but usually pretty fast. Is this tournament indoors? Have you played indoors before? There are those factors to consider as well, such as ventilation (for breathing), ceiling height (b/c if you hit it, you lose the point), and echo (from hitting the ball). All those factors are worth considering as well. Good luck!
Q: how do my friend and I get blue-green marker stains out of carpet without making it worse? hopefully quickly?
If you go to your local grocery store (price chopper, Hannafords, shop rite, etc.) Sometimes you can rent carpet cleaners or if you go to a bed bath and beyond or linens and things you can buy a carpet cleaner. I think mine is called green monster or something like that and it works great. =) hope this helped sincerely ariescutie45
Q: I own a cell phone store and my carpets are a mess. I'm trying to save money because stanley steemer wants around $200. I thought about renting the rug doctor for $20 from the local grocery store. Would it work well for commerical grade thin grey carpet that has some dirt, road salt, and grease in it from the several customers that walk on it every day?
Rug Doctor carpet cleaners are really low end. Your best bet is to pay a professional company to come in a few times a year to clean the carpets properly. Once the carpets are clean, consider a weekly linen service. Lots of companys will come around on a weekly basis and lay out/exchange long carpet runners. It's a small investment to keep your store looking clean and polished.
