- Q:Ok, my directors chair which I love so much, has quit. It will not pop up anymore. I guess the shock underneath quit. I have another smaller directors chair, which is just ok. Can I take the shock out of that one and put it in my bigger/better directors chair for it to work again. I miss my good chair, it has arms on it and very good. The other one does not have arms. - so you have an air shock under the chair that is supposed to hold you up but it leaks air so the chair stays in the lower position all the time? You may be able to replace the seals in the shock, or replace the shock itself. See if you can find the name of the company that made it and the model number and call them about your options. If the shocks are the same size and look the same, you can try switching them.

- Quilting fabric is not meant to use for upholstery purposes as it will not resist the constant wear and will stain easily, shortening it's life span quite a bit. However, if you really love the fabric, you most certainly can use a heavier gauge clear plastic vinyl over the quilting fabric for a long life and wipe clean feature. I used vinyl on my kitchen chairs and quite frankly, it lasted so long that I actually tired of the fabric and it was in like new condition when I redecorated. Even if you change your mind and use upholstery fabric, you really do not need much fabric. Home Decorating fabric is 54 wide. You will need 2/3 of a yard/24 of fabric for every two chairs. A 54w , 24l piece of fabric cut in half will net you two 27x 24 chair tops. So, you will only need 1 1/3 yards per every four chairs, believe it or not. So, it is affordable. - Q:If I have a CIS cyclohexane (with 2 cis substituents), would that translate into a CIS chair conformation (with both substituents pointing in the same direction)?? Or are they completely unrelated?Because when I try converting cyclohexanes to chairs, I end up getting the trans conformation...The lowest energy conformation of cis-1-4-(1,1-dimethylethyl)cyclohexane is not a chair. Why?^^For the above question, the answer is because ONE of the t-butyl groups is in an axial position...BUT when I draw the cis cyclohexane and convert it to a chair, I get BOTH t-butyl groups in opposite-direction axial positions...which, I know, isn't the cis conformation.Is it not possible to convert from cyclohexanes to chairs? Like, having a cis cyclohexane DOES NOT translate into a cis chair conformation??
- For your first question, you are likely drawing your chair conformer correctly, but interpreting it incorrectly. Are you equating equatorial and axial positions as trans? Cis substituents are sometimes in equatorial and axial positions - you can tell that they are cis if BOTH are the upper or lower subsituent. The substituents are trans if one is in the upper position, and one is in the lower position. I wish I could attach a picture to this answer to show you better. For your second question, you are probably drawing it incorrectly. One will be axial, and one will be equatorial. Remember to number your carbons so that you are drawing your substituent on the right one. tert-butyl groups are very bulky and will add a lot of steric hindrance to your molecule. In this case, a boat conformer will actually be more stable! Cis cyclohexanes do translate into chair conformations, but this particular molecule is more stable as a boat.

Lightly wax the ends of each of the spindles, legs, crossbars, and braces, this will make insertion easier and prevent wood swell. 4.)Assemble the legs, braces and crossbars, secure them to the bottom of the seat, then insert spindles to the top of the seat, then attach the spindle frame . Assemble and attach arms last. I use Bee's Knee's Zipper Wax. It is 100% natural and is beneficial to the wood, not like paraffin, that contains methane and octane and I want those chemicals no where near my fine wooden furniture. Good Luck and have fun!... PS don't forget a touch of wood glue in each hole, ONLY after you are sure it perfect!
