Product description
A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell (in very early days also termed "solar battery"[1] – a denotation which nowadays has a totally different meaning, see here), is an electrical device that converts the energy of lightdirectly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect, which is a physical and chemical phenomenon.[2] It is a form of photoelectric cell, defined as a device whose electrical characteristics, such as current, voltage, or resistance, vary when exposed to light. Solar cells are the building blocks of photovoltaic modules, otherwise known as solar panels.
Solar cells are described as being photovoltaic irrespective of whether the source is sunlight or an artificial light. They are used as a photodetector (for example infrared detectors), detecting light or other electromagnetic radiation near the visible range, or measuring light intensity.
the area of a module given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 watt module will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 watt module. There are a few solar panels available that are exceeding 19% efficiency. A single solar module can produce only a limited amount of power; most installations contain multiple modules. A photovoltaic system typically includes a panel or an array of solar modules, a solar inverter, and sometimes a battery and/or solar tracker and interconnection wiring.

- Q: my solar panel is 5v 50 mA, and im making iphone USB charger so i need to connect + with 00 ohm resister and to data - and + so what resister will be okay..?
- Just connect the 5 volts out of the panel directly to the iphone via an USB connector. BUT, is the panel output always 5 volts, ±0.25 volts? Because that is the USB specification, and anything outside of those values could damage your iphone. And solar panels are known for their wide swings in voltage. Bottom line, resistor not needed, and you need to be positive you supply the correct voltage to the iphone. Best way to do that is to start with a solar panel that puts out at least 7 volts and use a LM7805 regulator. The only resistors needed are those to tie the data lines into a certain combination of resistance and voltage so that the iphone is fooled into thinking that a proper USB is connected. That would NOT involve a 00 ohm resistor. Search online for the proper values and connections. edit: are you repeating your same inane question with a different account? That is totally against the rules and could get you suspended.
- Q: Rated in kilowatts, what is the maximum output of one 8 by 0 solar panel? Assume this solar panel is located at the equator for maximum sunlight.
- The world record efficiency for a solar panel is about 42%. At the equator, you can get up to about 000W m^-2. The efficiency of commercial cells tends to range from 0-20%. They're almost all single junction cells, so will never exceed 3% efficiency. To work out your maximum power output, multiply 000 x efficiency (as a decimal) x area covered. So an 8m x 0m solar panel would be 80 square metres. At 5% efficiency its peak output would be 2000W or 2kW. Total energy output will be different, since it won't be maximum power output all the time. In fact, it will more likely generate something like 20% of its maximum theoretical output, since the Sun won't always be overhead (and sometimes it's night!). The 2kW panel above might have a mean output of 2.4kW, or 57.6kWh/day.
- Q: Ok so I am planning on buying a solar panel. I am doing it to possibly sell the energy that it stores. It is a 20 watt panel so I am just wondering if every week or month if I sold that energy that it stored would make me a good profit. I am not hoping for thousands of dollars a month..just like 00? The solar panel cost me $,00 so if so, how long do you think it would take to make good profit. Also, how much would I make every week or month?
- I will give you the tools to answer your own question. Here is the solar resource map: rredc.nrel /solar/old_data/nsr... Use it to look up the hours of peak equivalent sunlight per day in your area. For example, let's say it's 5 hours / day. Then per year you get 365 x 5 = 825 hours of sun Your panel is 20 watts, or 0.2 kW So the energy produced per year is 825 x .2 = 383 kWh You'll have to use the proper numbers for your own area, of course. Anyway, you can take that 383 kWh and determine how much it would cost at local electric rates. Never know, on some islands, it's $.00 per kWh. Check with your local electric company for rates.
- Q: I know that the Solar panels store the power from the sun in the daytime, where does that stored energy go from there? Is it stored in the batteries? And how would you keep the batteries topped up if you had no Electric? by a generator? interested in solar panels for abroad, but need more info.
- Solar panels do not store power. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity. To store power you need batteries. The usual type of batteries used are lead-acid deep discharge( similar to car batteries). The batteries are charged up during the time the sun is out. However, as a backup you could also have a generator handy to provide power for times when the sun did not shine enough to keep the batteries charged up.
- Q: i need to make a mini-solar car which shouldn't cost much. it's for my science project. for now, i just found out how to make a solar panel using copper oxide, but it does not generate enough power to power up the engine of the toy car [ the small engine they used in the toys, like from TAMIA]
- try adding more solar panels to your car, what if you take the solar panels out of 2 or 3 calulators , add them, then use some tiny mirrors to help draw more light into the panels,.--------------------------------... solar cell (or a photovoltaic cell) is a device that converts photons from the sun (solar light) into electricity. In general, a solar cell that includes the capacity to capture both solar and nonsolar sources of light (such as photons from incandescent bulbs) is termed a photovoltaic cell. Fundamentally, the device needs to fulfill only two functions: photogeneration of charge carriers (electrons and holes) in a light-absorbing material, and separation of the charge carriers to a conductive contact that will transmit the electricity. This conversion is called the photovoltaic effect, and the field of research related to solar cells is known as photovoltaics. Solar cells have many applications. Historically solar cells have been used in situations where electrical power from the grid is unavailable, such as in remote area power systems, Earth orbiting satellites or space probes , consumer systems, e.g. handheld calculators or wrist watches, remote radiotelephones and water pumping applications. Recently solar cells are particularly used in assemblies of solar modules (photovoltaic arrays) connected to the electricity grid through an inverter, often in combination with a net metering arrangement. Solar cells are regarded as one of the key technologies towards a sustainable energy supply.
- Q: How efficient are solar panels when it comes to turning light into energy? If it's not 00%, why? Can it be improved? Also, how do solar panels work, exactly.
- Solar panels are 5-30% efficient in turning light into energy. I'm not sure why it isn't 00%, but methods are constantly improving, and the panels are getting more efficient with time and research. Solar panels work with photovoltaic (PV) cells, which are made up of two very thin layers of semiconductor with a middle junction layer. The kinetic energy in light photons create a current that flows into whatever electrical cord it is attached to.
- Q: Can solar panels be damaged by hail or extreme weather?
- Yes, solar panels can be damaged by hail or extreme weather. While solar panels are designed to withstand various weather conditions, including hail, severe storms with large hailstones or intense winds can potentially cause damage to the panels. However, most solar panels undergo rigorous testing to ensure they can withstand such conditions, and many manufacturers offer warranties to cover any damage caused by hail or extreme weather.
- Q: What are the benefits of solar panel heating? What does it cost for solar panels?any other important facts about it?
- Firstly,it is environment friendly, solar energy can replace electricity,so it reduce the carbon emission.Secondly, solar energy is cost effective, you will not pay any bill for electricity any more.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a drone?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a drone. By harnessing the energy from the sun, solar panels can charge the drone's batteries and provide a sustainable source of power for extended flight times. This is especially beneficial for long-range or endurance missions where recharging options may be limited. Additionally, solar-powered drones offer environmental advantages by reducing carbon emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a space station?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a space station. In fact, many space stations, such as the International Space Station (ISS), rely on solar panels to generate electricity. These panels capture energy from the sun's rays and convert it into usable electrical power, providing a sustainable and renewable source of energy for the space station's operations.
