Q:help understanding solar panel stuff?
Any fan you find in a store is going to expect AC, not DC, which is what solar panels produce. An inverter changes DC to AC. You'll probably want a deep cycle car battery to smooth out overages and underages. Any fan will tell you how many watts it uses. Panels should (i haven't looked) tell you how many watts they produce. Just off hand, I'd guess you're looking at a 2'x4' panel. Considering how much you'll be paying for the rest of the stuff, a good 00' cord is appropriate,. Last, it's worth the experience, but you'll never recover the cost of everything that you'll have to buy. Have fun.
Q:what is the best way to go solar?
Both solar and wind production is largely a function of location. If you live in the southwest where the sun shines most days, maybe solar is an option. If you happen to live in one of the wind corridors, maybe wind is an option. Neither one will be as reliable and cheap as your grid power, though. Best is to concentrate on conservation of energy use.
Q:solar panel help needed ?
You need to know how many solar cells are in the panel and what is the rated current each cell will produce. This information should be listed on the panel. Each cell will produce from 0.5 to 0.55 volts DC per cell and each cell will produce a current that is dependent on the size of the cell and the type of material the cell is made from. If the cells are connected in series then the voltage of each cell will add together, that is if you have 30 cells connected in series they should generate about 5 to 6.5 volts DC. If each cell generates .2 amps, then you multiply the voltage of 5 volts DC times .2 amps DC equals 8 watts of power. The current of each cell does not add together when you connect the cells in series only the voltage of each cell. If you connect the 30 cells in parallel then the current of each cell adds together but the voltage of each cell does not. That is 0.5 Volts DC times 36 amps equals 8 watts. The power (watts) produced will be the same. See our blog on the products page to see how to connect solar cells in series and in parallel. We also have a PDF file of solar cells and their rated output current sorted by watts per area and their manufacturer.
Q:It's all about Solar Panels?
Solar panels are not environmentally friendly. They are expensive and inefficient. Dangerous chemicals that never break down in the environment are produced in the manufacture of solar panels. Their environmental footprint is larger on a per kilowatt basis, than conventional modes of electricity generation. And, because of their unreliability, they have to be backed up by conventional sources. Well-intentioned, but gullible, people the world over have convinced themselves that solar power is our salvation. Nothing could be further from the truth. As an example, check out Margaret Wente's recent column in the Globe Mail after Ontario's recent decision to go green. Also check out George Monbiot's critique of the UK experiment.
Q:Why are solar panels made from silicon and not magnesium?
One of the primary reasons solar cells are made of silicon is that the bandgap energy of silicon happens to be nearly equal to the energy of visible light, which is the major portion of energy emitted by the sun. Therefore, silicon is the ideal substance to fabricate solar cells with.
Q:What are solar panels made up of?
Solar panels (aka photovoltaic panel) are most often made up of thin wafers of crystalline silicon or cadmium telluride. As photons from the sun enter the photovoltaic cell, electrons are freed from the substrate when are then collected by wires that run throughout the panel. And as we know electrons=electricity!
Q:Generator for solar panels....?
Solar panels generate DC power. If you need AC power, you need an inverter.
Q:are solar electric panels viable in the northwest?
Take okorder.com/.. You need to keep in mind that as long as you are renting your electric from the public utility you are doing just that and renting. You can resale the solar electric system if you move or if you just want to sale it and get some of your money back if not 20 % extra. Then all the years you used the system was all free electric. So it is already viable as you put it. Anything other then buying a system would not be. Here is a thought. The housing market slumped and if you paid 50K for your home it is now only worth if you can even sale it about 00K. Not worth the money but people are still buying homes even if they are not worth what they are being sold for. And then the cars and trucks people buy will never pay for them selfs but people still buy them and spend extra the more wasteful the car is. So why does solar have to pay for it's self or prove it's self? It has many times over but because you can't drive a solar panel drunk and party out in the bars with it is is not worth the money. I guess the is just being human and a double standard. What about the big up front cost of solar? I remember a 20% up front cost when I bought my home and my car and it is the same 20% or less for a solar loan. Plus the value of solar is going up not down like with homes and a car is not worth but half what you paid for it the minute you drive it off the car lot. I can only see good from solar un like other things we buy.
Q:What is the difference between solar panels and light panels?
Silicon solar cells are divided into monocrystalline silicon, polysilicon, amorphous silicon, silicon thin film solar cells and several. At present, the world's most widely used solar cells are silicon solar cells, in large-scale applications and industrial production is still dominated by the penetration rate of 90% or more, monocrystalline silicon solar cell photoelectric conversion efficiency of the highest technology is also the most mature.
Q:Where can i find a list of solar panel manufactures worldwide?
Actually Ofir, it is much easier and less expensive than you might believe. What you need is a magazine, like, Solar Today. There is only one that I am familiar with that gets into the nuts and bolts of solar panel manufacturers, installation, and other types of renewable energy. It's called, Home Power Magazine. We have a home that has been powered by the wind and sun for the last 0 years or so, and most of our initial information came from Home Power, and afterward, from many of the sources that they have in their articles. Every few issures, they take an item connected to renewable energy, such as an inverter, wind turbine, water turbine, or solar panel, and list all the different models that are available. They are broken down by manufacturer, and include specifications like power output, range of voltages, efficiency, materials, and even where they are manufactured. If you subscribe online for one year, the cost is around $25 USD, you will have access to all the previous issues that are archived on their website. You can use their search engine to locate an article listing all the solar panels, they did one a year or so ago with all the information you are looking for. Despite what you might be hearing, solar power usage is growing at an incredible rate. In the US alone, there are over 00,000 homes and businesses operating some level of solar power right now, that's good news. As far as different countries using different requirements, most all of the manufacturers today are selling their products to most countries worldwide, they are designed to meet requirements for almost anyplace you might use them. Check the magazine out today, you might learn more than you were originally looking for. I will include their link below, and some other good sources for information. You can google any one of them to find their website. Good luck, and take care...Rudydoo
