They look like a BIG solar company that specializes in commercial, residential and public sector turnkey, grid–connected solar electric systems. With over 25 years of experience. They sound like they would know about recycling, and at least be able to give you more information. I think because it's such a specialized item that is being recycled, there aren't going to be many options/drop off locations. Which ever option you choose (disassemble, or recycle as a whole) might depend on if you're looking to save the environment or make a buck. Solar panels to almost 90 degrees. Clean off snow and spray with MINERAL SPIRITS. I just figgered this out during a snow storm today here at 8000 feet in So. Colorado during a wet and sticky snow. Panels are clean. Sealants used on panels are impervious to MS. Jesus loves us all.

I am afraid you are in for some disapointment. A typical solar panel might put out something over 00 watts, and cost a pretty big bundle. Then, what would you do with the power? It will be low voltage DC. You could charge a battery, or run a DC appliance. You would get less than ten cents worth of electricity per day. 000W/square meter is the standard input rate that solar panels are rated by. Watts are a rate, like miles per hour. Depending on the technology, you might get as much as 20% of that as an output of the panel. To determine the amount of power generated, you need to multiply the rate by time. Just like in a car, going 50mph for 5 hours sends you 250 miles. You look at the rating of the panel, if it is a 50 watt panel, in 5 hours AT THAT RATED INPUT, you would generate 250 watt hours (wh). You can find charts that tell you how many sun hours are available a day. As the sun is generally strongest at solar noon, it is weaker in the morning and afternoon. They have averaged the power of the sun throughout the day, and said for each location, how many hours equal to 000W/Msq are in a day. Five is a nice average number. So, if you figure 000W input in a square meter, 20% output, or 200W (the rate) times 5 sun hours (time) = 000Watt hours, or kilowatt hour ( kwh) (quantity) can be generated from a square meter of panels in a day.

I don't have any practical experience building solar panel arrays to power a given device, but allow me to make this observation. Solar cells, when exposed to sunlight, will each generate a given amount of power (watts), and by wiring these in series, you will increase the wattage. Now, a panel three feet square will give you a certain amount of power, provided all the cells are wired correctly in series, and it may not provide enough juice to light the bulb. You can work around this by adding a step-up transformer (which takes the incoming power and boosts it to the desired level for output, with no moving parts). Voila! You've illuminated your bulb. I will admit, though, you'll have to do some math to determine what you need. A search on the Web will help you find the formulae and other information you'll require. Good luck.
