Q:just wanna know maybey instead of moist paper towels i could put damp vermiculite? and when the eggs are layed how do i get them to the incubator without killing the baby inside: If this is the first time the pool guy has installed a liner, worry, they can make a mess without experience. If he is experienced, relax and let him do his job. If he botches the job, you can always sue him for what it cost to get the job done right. The vermicullite can be smoothed with a cement trowel before the liner is installed. Usually they add a couple of bags of vermicullite to the existing to give it a fresh cushion. They should have a pump going to suck any standing water out of the hole before installing the liner. Then they attach the liner to the coping around the top and run a vaccum in the bottom to suck the air out from under the liner. A shop vac will do both jobs at once. The speed that he is able to do this depends upon his experience. It doesn't take very long though. Better plan on a couple of hours in case something doesn't go exactly like he planned. By the way, I have an 18 x 36 inground with SS walls and vermiculite covering the bottom. Both times I have had the liner replaced, they attached the top edge around the pool, and then cut the drain in the deep end and attached it before putting water in.. As the pool filled, and the liner stretched to fit the pool, they cut in the Light, water returns and skimmer holes. DO WATCH FOR THEM WALKING IN THE UNFILLED POOL WITH BOOTS ON. Both times I have had a replacement, they wore Waffle Stomper Sole boots that left deep foot prints in the vermicullite. The pool liner stretches to form fit the Boot Prints in the bottom of the pool and collects sediment in the tracks. If it is fair weather, i.e. 50's, open all the windows, and then shut all the windows, and do that to the small house. Measure each one of them after they have sat without any activity for 30 minutes. Try this method and see if it works or if you see any difference. One thing will be the amount of insulation. If you overstuff the small house, your reading will be skewed in favor of the small house. Good project.

Q:Will regular potting soil mixed with perlite work?: We use a soil less mix that we make ourselves. 6 parts peat moss 2 parts aged cow poop 1/2 part perlite or vermiculite small dash of blood meal or other nitrogen rich fertilizer We mix this by the cubic yard with a cement mixer and a bobcat, but for small quantities I would suggest using a small scoop and mixing in a five gallon bucket.Make sure you mix well. You can find aged cow maure in bags at most home supply stores. We also use this for all of our house plants. Regular potting soil is usually too heavy, even when mixed with perlite, for tiny roots to push through and spread properly, and there is no advantage at all to using potting soil. There is much more nutrient in this mix.

Is there anything I can use besides pelite or vermiculite? Thanks: Sounds like clay soil, and we have it too. All it takes is water. You need to water about 30 to 40 minutes once per week. It might look like a lake at first, but it will soak in. Once it soaks in, it will be wet underneath where you cannot see. You can poke your fingers down into the soil a couple of inches and you will be surprised to find that it is wet. Forget about the vermiculite or perlite; those are for containers/pots. You need do nothing else except water, water, water. And always on the same day each week. Mow once per week too. If at all possible, water after you mow. Fertilize in spring, and in the fall. It will take awhile, but you will have a pretty lawn in a month or so.

She'll require more water before and after . Also, make sure the female has access to plenty of calcium, a GOOD UVB (heat) lamp, and a place to dig to lay eggs, or a box to lay her eggs in . You should incubate the eggs by placing them in a shallow dish with wet paper or cloth towels on the bottom, and keep a heat lamp on them at ALL times, making sure the towels NEVER dry out. You'll need to provide the mom-to-be with more crickets or whatever you feed her than before. She'll not eat a day or so before laying her eggs, but this is normal. She'll eat again an hour afterwards, if not sooner.
