Q:We just moved and our house has all hardwood floors. I have swept and mopped the floors several times but they are still dirty. My son who is 8 months old ends up covered in dirt from scooting around on the floors. I don't know of any other ways to get the floors cleaned. Anyone with any tips, please help me. I'm worried we are going to ruin all his clothes because he gets soooo dirty. Even just walking around the house, my daughters socks and my husband and I's socks all get dirty too. Please help!!

Hardwood floors are hard to keep clean, especially with kids and dogs. We have HW floors and 3 house dogs...and it's currently pouring rain outside...so I know your problem. My wife cleans the floors with Murphy's Soap oil, and when it's good and dry, she uses Orange Glo Hardwood floor 4 in 1 floor cleaner, and applies it with a Swiffer Sweeper and dry Swiffer mop pad . It gives a fresh look to the floors. Many times, she skips the Murphy's and just uses the Orange Glo. This works as good as we can keep it with our dog circumstances. Papaw

You'll need to rent a floor polisher. I actually clean the marble floor where I work. What we do is use a marble polish that looks somewhat like wet sand. We mix the polish with some water, put it on the floor, and use a low/medium speed floor buffer with a medium pad to polish the floor. We then squeegee most of the polish up and use a wet vacuum to get the rest. Next, we mop the floor (alot!) to get the left over polish. Lastly, (after the floor is dry) we use a high speed buffer with a light or medium pad to shine it up. Talk to the person you rent the polisher from, and be sure to read and follow the directions on the polish. It can be a lot of work (particularily prep work, such as moving furniture, taping/covering carpets, etc.) but the reward is totally worth it. Good luck!

You can redo the floor by putting tiles or laminate flooring, but if redoing it isn't an option you can just get one of then giant rugs, if it's more colourful than the floor no one will really be looking at the floor but good luck!.

My parents bought a black laminate flooring for their home. It it beautiful. I think they bought it at home depot. the only bad thing about black is that it is very hard to keep clean. everything shows up on it. I hope I helped and good luck

Q:I am looking at putting down flooring thoughout my home.I am curious to know which is the best the laminated flooring or the snap together flooring.I have carpet down now in most of the rooms with the exception of the bathrooms kithchen and utilitie rooms.

I favor Mannington, Armstrong, or Quick Step laminates, they are the easiest to install, I would use any for all the rooms, except bath, kitchen and utility because of possible exposure to excessive water. In those rooms, if you need something easy to put in cork is a possibility, Adura Tiles(see Mannington website), or their is a vinyl product by Armstrong called cushion step that you can actually just free float on the floor (see Armstrong site for more info. If you really wanted to go all out, some engineered wood floors can also be floated(snap type install). Mannington has some really nice looks in this also. Hope this helps you!!

Q:My new house has blonde floating floors and I have no idea how to maintain them. My family doesn't eat or drink outside of the kitchen and we typically take off our shoes at the door. I have a shorthaired little dog who isn't going to be very happy when I try to put doggy house slippers on him because I'm so worried about scratching the floor. I'm OCD; it'd drive me crazy! I ll be using protectors under all furniture.What type of cleaner would one use weekly or biweekly for thorough cleaning on this kind of floor?Is it ok to use a Swiffer spray? I detest vinegar. Can I cover the Swiffer with a dryer sheet or will that coat the floor?Thanks

Have you tried some values of x? I would start there. For instance, what is H(0) and K(0)?

Q:I dropped my brand new Duralast floor jack. I picked my floor jackup cause I didnt feel like rolling It that far and It got stuck on my coat pocket and I managed to drop It. Theres a mark on It where It hit the cement but I did finish jacking my Jeep up and It lifted It like normal and It didn't lose pressure or drop. Just wondering If I damaged anything also Im not stupid enough to get under It without jack stands.

Good old vinegar and water does a great job and doesn't streak.

Q:I have uneven cement floors in my business, they were originally painted with cement/porch paint and sealed. I have painted over them with the same color over the last few years, once a year for 2.5 years, it is now pealing in places and I have used a paint scraped to lift some of it off, not nice underneathIs there any floor treatments I can do that have little to no smell, dry fast, easy to apply and clean well?? thanks

try a garage floor epoxy type coating. you may have to prime first but doing it right once will save in the long run. it's not cheep but it will last for a long time
