Q: what does it mean to RE-CEMENT a boiler and what does it do?
Older Boilers are lined with refractory cement. This is an insulation layer of concrete used to keep a firebox in a boiler from losing valuable heat and it also protects the firebox from metallic overheating which can cause structural failure over time. Your boiler's cement has started to fall apart and the process of Re-Cementing repairs that failure, making the firebox patent and safe again for heating.
Q: can rubber cement be used for the same uses?
vinyl cement is a mortar based repair that is harder than cement rubber cement is typically a glue that is latex based
Q: Hi~My husband is converting our attached garage into a living room. There is a crack down the middle of the cement floor and has caused it to heave a little. There are spots that the floor is uneven. He had planned on making a subfloor above the cement and then laying our new carpet. In the spring there is moisture in there, so now he thinks he needs to rip all the cement and start over. Is that really necessary? Is there some moisture barrier that can be put on the cement? I am not concerned about the uneveness. I think the carpet will hide that. He is a perfectionist and wants everything done right but I don't think its a big deal. Ny concern is the moisture and what to do for that. Thank You
A moisture problem needs to be solved first. You cannot just cover it. Usually most water problems can be resolved by digging a trench all around the garage and install drain tile and fill it with drain rock and cap it with gravel. You stated this is an attached garage, so maybe you house has NO perimeter drain ? Then you need to solve this problem too.
Q: How do you pronounce cement?
Suh-ment
Q: if so, are there any special steps i need to do?
If the mix you were using was guarenteed to not leak anything into the water it would be fine.
Q: then how much ice will be requiredIf Specific heat of cement is 0.84 Kj/Kg KLatent heat of melting of ice is 334 KJ/Kg K
Not sure if this is a practical or theoretical question. If practical, the amount of ice must be calculated in advance, and the cement mix adjusted . If the mix is made regular, the addition of ice to cool it will make the final mix incorrect.
Q: can you install cement backer board over old sheetrock?
You can but it will bump all the walls in by the depth of the cement board. Plus, if it is a bath or kitchen, then the cement board will encroach on the tub and/or sink, especially considering the extra depth the tile will add. I always remove the old sheetrock because mold can easily be growing in there if it is in a room prone to dampness like a bath or kitchen. Also, the cement board will be a much sturdier mount if it is directly on the studs.
Q: the concept of water cement which plays main role in the concrete so it important know about that...
Concrete consists of cement, fine aggregates, coarse aggregates, and water. Water is needed for the hydration of cement which leads to the formation of compounds like dicalcium silicate, tricalcium silicate, tetracalcium aluminoferrite, which are the building blocks of the compressive strength of the concrete. Since the cement is the finest particle amongst the ingredients, and strength of the concrete depends largely on the hydration of cement, the strength is extremely sensitive to the changes in water-cement ratio. Hope this helps.
Q: My sister is pouring a sidewalk alongside her house, and wants to have bare foot imprints of her and her two daughters. Its not my thing, but is this safe? I don't think wet cement can hurt you, but is it healthy to go barefootin' in, haha?
Not a problem -- I did this a couple of times when I was a kid and there were zero complications at all.
Q: The depth is between 10 to 40 meters, these were powdered cement in bags, corals approximately within a 1800 sq.m. area were damaged as the cargo boat beached and listed to spill its load, almost 2000 bags were thrown into the area. Some bags burst open some were intact left lying in the seas. Non government institutions are working hard to mitigate the damage, local government are finding ways to punish the culprit and institute legislative action to prevent future occurrences. Data on the how to proceed is scarce (powdered cements effects), hence this posting.
Cement or concrete in and of itself are not harmful to the environment. Governments and private companies are using such items to help rebuild lost reefs. It what may be added to the cement that is a problem.
