Q:nan
DS's solar panels convert 22% of their available energy into electrical power. This may not sound very good, but it is much better than most solar panels. Most solar panels on people's houses, for example, are fairly inefficient. Less than 4% of the energy that reaches them will be converted to electricity. DS's panels are so efficient, in fact, that unless the ion propulsion drive is running, DS is producing far more power than it needs.
Q:I have a home in Manchester Tn and we have been slowly remodeling the home. It is about 200 sq ft of living space. Our normal electric bill is about 50 a month. We would like to add some solar panels to the home to help reduce the amount of the bill. How many panels do I need and what would be the cost? I am not trying to go completely of the grid but I would like to start somewhere and maybe over the years be able to add. What is your recommendation for a reasonable cost of under 2 to 3 k??
Ok, well there are also other alternative energy sources, too, besides solar. There is tidal (but you need an ocean :] ), hydroelectric (river, stream, etc.), biomass/biofuels (burning garabage), geothermal (from within the earth, pipes in the earth), wind (windmills, wind, the sun to get wind), and there are others that don't come to mind. Solar energy would cost alot to be installed, and it would take up alot of space, but once installed it pays for itself and uses little to no labor. They all have positives and negatives. All of these are clean and renewable. Here are some sites that my teacher/professor gave us (we just ended alternative energy lesson.) Well I hoped this helped!
Q:
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a sports stadium or arena. Many stadiums and arenas around the world have already implemented solar panel systems to generate renewable energy and reduce their carbon footprint. The large roof space and open areas surrounding these venues make them ideal locations for solar panel installations. Additionally, the energy generated by these panels can be used to power the stadium's operations and even contribute to the local power grid.
Q:i have a 50 watt 2 Volt solar panel..Will it can switch on directly a car head light on a sunny day??? How much head lights it can support on a bright sunny day??? if its cloudy then can it run a single Head light???? i have no batteries just want to connect a car Head light directly to solar panel.

Q:we are trying to reduce a solar panel from 9 volts to 3 volts. What do we need to make this work...
Solar panels generate DC power. Changing DC voltage is hard, which is why the power grid is AC voltage. AC voltage can easily be changed with a transformer. To keep the DC power (watts) the same at a lower voltage you need a DC to DC converter. That basically changes the power to AC with an inverter, changes the AC voltage to the new value, then rectifies it back to DC. It is probably hard to find a commercial unit that handles those voltages and then it will be expensive. But I have a simple solution in the special case of a solar panel. Solar panels are made up of smaller solar cells. The basic solar cell has a very low voltage, like half a volt. The panel has many of them connected in series to make a higher voltage. Just cover (shade) some of them and the voltage generated by the panel will be less. Of course that reduces the power. And you may need to experiment with shading different parts of the panel and measuring the result with volt meter.
Q:I am confused. I am planning to build a simple 2Watt solar system to power some lights in my house. . I wonder if it is possible to power up a 2Watt bulb using 2Watt solar power?2. Normally, when we are reading the power rating of a bulb, we will read the wattage, so what about the voltage and current rating?3. If the current is insufficient, will the bulb light up?I am having a solar panel that can output 2W power but I am not sure about the output voltage, how can I find out about the current? I am getting really confused.
Unlikely - at least not a full brightness. You have to match voltages. If your panel is 2v at amp, it won't run a 20v bulb that runs at /0 amp. You're also going to lose power in the wiring and other components that means the 2w panel won't really deliver its full rating. And I'm also guessing that the 2w of the panel is only under full, bright sunlight, so any lessening of the light; clouds, haze, fog, dust, will lessen the power available.
Q:Can anyone give me a link to a website that sells really big solar panels? Enough to run a small cafe on entirely solar power.
Just google search solar panels or pv panels and you should get a long list of them. That's what I did. Most of the sites selling them will also have the inverters etc that you'll need. Most likely you'll put several small or medium sized panels on your roof - as opposed to just one large one. You probably won't be able to run an entire cafe off of photovoltaic panels, even if you have a bank of batteries. Too many appliances running at the same time. Ask your electric utility company about net metering - you'll buy juice from them when your demand is high and sell to them when your demand is low - IF you can find a sunny day when you're not using juice, but if you have a restaraunt-sized refrigerator you probably won't be selling as much as you're buying. In effect, it won't eliminate your elec bill, just make it a bit smaller. Either way, you may be looking at spending $20,000 to cover the roof with PV panels and your savings won't pay that back any time soon. So, PV is not so great for a business. Much better for a home where you'll be at work all day the only appliances running in your house is your frig. Whatever you invest to solar your house will be repaid when you sell it, meanwhile you'll reduce your bills dramatically, especially if you convert all your indoor lighting to LEDs. On the other hand, the Googleplex, Google's office building full of computers, covered their roof with pv panels and claim to have reduced their monthly bill by /3. BUT, that's a huge building with lots of roof space.
Q:What specification of solar panel would I need to power a laptop every day? I would need to use it for about 0 hours or so every day. I don't know anything about solar panels, but I am seriously thinking of getting one now and don't know who to ask.
You will need, A battery to store the electricity from the solar panel. The amount of electricity from the panel varies up and down as things such as clouds, position of the sun, etc. reduce the amount of solar rays hitting the panel. The battery stores it all, the ups and downs, and sends it back out at a steady voltage so you can operate your p.c. / appliance. A minimum of 45 watts solar panel. 60 watts would be preferable. 45 watts will charge a battery in one day under ideal conditions. You turn the panel as the sun moves across the sky, no clouds. 60 watts will charge a battery in one day with out moving and regardless of clouds. A controler to prevent the electricity from flowing backwards from the battery to the solar panel when the sun goes behind a cloud or sets at night and the charge drops below the voltage of the battery. A good controller will tell you the charge condition of your battery so you know when it is too low to operate your p.c. safely. And finally an inverter with True Sine Wave capability to change the electricity from the battery into usuable power for your PC and other electronics. Not all inverters produce true sine wave electricity. The electricity has static in it and will make your pc screen jump around and not function as it should. New digital T.V.'s also require true sine wave electricity to operate. Go the extra cost and get the inverter with true sine wave and be happy with the way your p.c. functions. Figure out how many Watts your p.c. or appliance will draw. and match the Inverter to the need. Do not go too big, as they cost more and consume more of your stored electricity to operate. Save as much electricity as you can. You will be able to operate your p.c. appliance longer. When not using your p.c., you can operate your T.V. or other low watt appliance.
Q:My project needs to build a thermal solar panel that would be used as a demonstrational rig. The dimensions i am allowed do not allow me to use a normal thermal solar panel so i have decided to use the heat exchanger from the back of a fridge. Although this is possible to use what equation would i use to prove the power of the sun would actually heat up the water. More importantly when the rig is demonstrated to students, they will need to be able to determine if the raise in temperature given by the thermometers is what should be given. Variables of the rig will include: Angle of the panel, Light intensity, Direction of panel, and more importantly the flow rate of the water travelling through the pipes. What equation includes those variables (change in temperature, flow rate) and would allow me to incorporate the angle of the panel. The light source would be a lamp so i would also need to know how much of the energy from the lamp is actually being used by the panel?
If you only use it for demonstrational . 75W-00W small solar panels would be that you are looking for, you can use it heat up the water. With simple guide you can do it yourself easily and cheaply.
Q:
Yes, solar panels can be installed on both poles and ground mounts. Pole mounts are often used when there is limited space on the ground or when panels need to be elevated for better sunlight exposure. Ground mounts, on the other hand, are ideal for larger installations or when the ground is more suitable for anchoring. Both options offer flexibility in terms of placement and can effectively harness solar energy.
