Q:I spilled Coca-cola on my area rug. The rug is relatively inexpensive and I've never spilled liquid on it. I decided it would be a brilliant idea to sop up as much liquid as I could with a towel and paper towels and then pour baking soda all over it, which I then proceeded to rub in. (I know, idiotic). The stain is now hard and crusty and I cant seem to vacuum it out. Any advice?: Not all is lost. Break up the crusties as much as possible and vacuum, probably just use the hose, not the various heads. Keep doing this until you'd removed as much as possible. If you have a clothes brush, use that to help as you vacuum. When you've done as much as you can, time to switch methods: first put a towel, shower curtain or whatever under your throw rug as you don't want to ruin the floor under neath.......if vinyl.......relax. Anyway. Make a solution of OxyClean.....I'd say a scoop to a quart of warm water.....mix well and then apply it to the stain.........if your carpet doesn't have latex on the back and you can move it to the tub.....pour the Oxyclean over the stain. Otherwise pour a bit on.......1/4 cup or so, rub with your fingers and immediately begin blotting it out with a clean towel......white or light colored just in case you get a color run from the towel. Repeat applying and blotting it up. That should do it. I doubt you'll need the whole quart. OH yes, finish with a clear water rinse and plenty of blotting. Check the towel or whatever underneath and replace it if wet. Let the rug air dry. No hair dryers as heat will set stains. Of course we hope like anything the OxyClean doesn't remove the color from your rug.....if you have bright colors.....use a weaker solution. OxyClean ihydrogenen peroxide which will bleach colors if in a very concentrated formula which it in the in the original mixture I mentioned.

Q:Which is the simpliest way to clean and remove spots from dirty carpet, without using commercial shapoo?: It really depends upon what the stains are. Different products and methods work for different stains. Here are some excellent and practical sites that will help you with a whole variety of stains. Best of luck with it.

Q:We just bought a nice silk rug from a wholesaler, and its 8x11. Since we bought it, it has been shedding like crazy. Is it normal? And how can you tell if it is handmade or machine-made? We bought it for $350.: Are you sure its silk? A real silk rug machine made in 8 x 11 will be over $1000. Handmade more like $3000 to $30,000. Its more sounds like a mercerized cotton rug. They look about the same. The cotton rug shedds more. Is there a label on the back of the rug with any infomation. Manufacture ? Country of manufacture? Any information will help to track it down. Post it and I will help. Two easy tests: rubb the rug with the palm of you hand, if it feels warm it may be silk. cool its cotton or rayon. One of the best tests is the burn test. Pull a piece of the yarn from the face. Just one will never be missed. Burn it, smells like burning hair, silk. smells like plastic, rayon. Smells like cloth, cotton. Also real silk is very, very strong. Cotton and rayon are must weaker.

Q:My carpets are heavyly stained, i have shampooed them using bleach, but the resalt i want is to bleach them as close to white, or clean i can get . Ihave to small children in the house to think about too! Any suggestions on how to clean the carpet myself, within a day would be great!: I have a tan carpet and discovered that Woolite OxyDeep works wonders. Then you get a heavy duty carpet cleaner and a Bottle of Resolve and clean away. If that doesn't work then you are probably going to have to get a new carpet. And don't give up after the first try.....if it is as dirty as it sounds it is....you are going to have to go over it several times.
