- Q: Can you improve a vacuum cleaners suction (with tweeks) or filteration (by adding aditional filter)?
- Well if you can you would probably be a pretty good engineer. I would keep any existing filters cleaned regularly and if you are using a bag They tend to have better air flow when first installed(empty). You didn't mention what type or for what purpose. If you are cleaning carpet you need agitation, air flow, and suction. Setting it too low would cut down on air flow. Too high would increase air flow but you would not get the suction down where you need it. You might get some better answers if you add details.
- Q: I'm looking for a vacuum that is less than $200, Upright, bagless, HEPA, can clean pet hair, and reliable/durable. If you know any other vaccuum brand that fits into ALL of my requirements above, feel free to tell me. I did some research and narrowed my list down to two. So my questions are:1. Which one should I buy? 2. What are the pros and cons between the two?
- Years ago vacuums were mostly metal, with plastic used sparingly, as in bumpers, trim, etc. Nowadays vacuums are 98 % plastic, with metal used sparingly, such as in the motor, wheel shafts, screws, etc. Bissell has traditionally used a cheaper plastic, similar to the stuff they used to make those cheapie little toys out of. It doesn't stand up to rough use very well, cracks easily and breaks. Eureka has been in the vacuum business longer and I feel, makes a moderately good product. I'm not aware of any Eureka u/r's that allow for agitator shut down while running. Panasonic makes an u/r with that feature, as does Riccar and Simplicity, all in the $300-$500 range. Bagless machines require more filters to catch the dirt that the bag normally stops, so require that you purchase filters regularly instead of bags. It's a trade off. Also, when you dump the dirt container there's always that little puff of dirt back into the air, which you can frequently bypass with a bag. Consumer Reports rates bagged units over bagless units, nearly every time. One of the best vac's for the money is the Hoover Windtunnel u/r. If you have trouble with your arms or wrists they are available in self-propelled models, if not get one without. They all have great suction and a good agitator system.
- Q: I saw a wide range of prices for vacuum cleaners...I just need a decent one, how much should that cost?
- You can get a very good vacuum cleaner for about one hundred thirty dollars this would be a Panasonic Upright vacuum cleaner, it is lightweight easy to maneuver powerful suction twelve amp motor and last long best yet reliable, you can get a cheaper price than quoted if you go to vacuum stores and beat their price down by acting as if you are interested in several brands then ask to try one out ask for price of demonstrator and if it sounds too much money then say I am going to check out another dealer and start to walk out door the salesperson will not want you to leave and will make you a better deal Good Luck !
- Q: Any information you can provide about these models would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Have a wonderful day.

- Q: How much do you think a Kirby Vacuum cleaner goes for in 2008. I had a retailer come to my house and gave me a godawful price..i want to see if his price matches yoursJohn J M
- There is not a set price for a Kirby. The salesman pays a set price but is free to charge as much or little as he thinks he can get. They usually start asking for about $1600. They are not worth it. Neither is Rainbo. A Royal Commercial is very similar to the Kirby but in my opinion better made. And half the price. If you want a good vacuum go to a janitorial supply. Be prepared though. They still are not cheap. But Commercial will last and do a better job. I can't stand Kirby.
- Q: The motor turns ok, and my husband couldn't find where the hose was clogged.. we just can't get any suction. It is a Dirt Devil. Upright. Approx 7-8 yrs old.
- If the bag is full they will not suck dirt try enptying the bag
- Q: I keep hearing about ones with bags, ones without, ones with filters, etc... What does it all mean?
- You okorder .au I use it everyday without any problems, it picks up a bin full of dirt each time. The best thing is I dont have to do anything..
- Q: What would you do if your child has phobias of water, darkness, cars, vacuum cleaners and dust?
- Desensitize her to her fears. Vacuum: Have her sit on the couch and show her the vacuum but do not turn it on. Point out what every visible part of the vacuum is and explain what the vacuum does. Then, have her touch the different parts of the vacuum. After this, show her how to turn the vacuum on and have her turn it on. Convince her to push the vacuum. Go slowly and, eventually, she will lose her fear of the vacuum. Cars: Show her pictures of cars in her favorite color. Show her different kinds of cars, trucks, vans, buses etc. Tell her how important cars are and that they can take her places like the store, school, the park, etc. Have her sit in the car with you and have a picnic. Allow her to honk the horn, turn the wipers on and play with the radio. Then, plug her in and turn the car on. Tell her that cars are not toys, she should never get in one alone and she should never crawl under one or stand behind one. Later, turn the car on and have her stand outside the car with you so she can experience the noise while you explain car safety to her. Water: Play some fun games in the bathtub. Show her the shower and have her use it to make bubbles in the bath. Put colored bubbles in the water and use toys and such. You can even put on a swimsuit and get in with her so she isn't so afraid. Take her to places where she can play in a shallow pool and where you guys can look at waterfalls. Show her video's of water falls on youtube. Darkness: This is a common fear. Try playing games in the dark, leaving only a night light on. Try eating dinner by candle light and going outside at night to look at the stars. This will help her feel more comfortable with it being dark but she may still need a nightlight at night. Dust: Show her how to draw pictures in the dust. Explain to her that it wont hurt her. Then, show her how to get rid of the dust.
- Q: I heard Dysons are very nice, but they are very expensive. I could save up for one but it is all its cracked up to be? Are there any less expensive vacuum cleaners out there that are worth the money? I want one that doesn't clog easy and can pick up pet hair. Also preferably one that isn't too messy to dump it contents. Thanks ! :)
- The answer to the question can change every month. Go to a vacuum repair shop that also sells new and ask them their recommendation, I did when I bought my Sharp 8 years ago and still love it.
- Q: which parts are metal and why are they used??and what metals are they made of?
- It contains one motor made of iron and copper.
