Q:If you have first hand experience with these units, please advise. The idea sounds great; turn it on, leave the house, come home and the whole house is vacuumed, and the unit is back in its port being recharged. Do they do a good job? Do they miss areas like around the chair legs at the dining room table? Do you reccommend a particular brand? Please share your experience.
I think they are the best hing I ever bought. I just wish it could go up stairs.... but really worth it.and more good luck
Q:We are looking into buying a new vacuum, I are newly married I really don't know what a good vacuum is since I don't have much experience taking care of a home by myself. Our price range is $0-$200. We live in apartments so the carpet is low grade and we don't have much storage. I wanted something compact, has a hose so I can vacuum around the sofa. I also don't really want to buy online since most vacuums cost $20s in shipping. What is your opinion is the best vacuum and is there any other features that I might want that I don't know I want? lol. Thanks a bunch!
If you buy a vacuum for less than $200, you'll probably be buying another one in a few years, maybe even less. If you buy a really good one, you're likely to have it for 20 years and more, and it will do a better job than a cheaper one. I bought a used Filter Queen 20 years ago for $500, and it still works as well as it did the day I bought it. It's had one professional clean-up after I used it to vacuum the drywall dust from a new house but it hasn't even needed the belt replaced yet. The most versatile is a canister vacuum with a beater head. It will do a good job on carpet and everything else. Most uprights aren't bad for carpet but hard to use for other vacuuming so you find yourself not getting full use out of it, or if you're like me, swearing at it when it won't reach high enough to get cobwebs off the ceiling. I'd recommend going to a store that sells and repairs vacuums and see what they have. You can usually get pretty good deals on better quality used vacuums. If you have allergies, look for one with a HEPA filter. My favourite brands: Filter Queen (of course), Tri-Star or Ghibli. Tri-Stars are particularly nice, and don't need bags since they have a washable cloth bag so you don't have to spend on filters or bags. If I didn't already have a good vacuum, I'd buy one in a minute. I believe they were made under a different name at one time, but they are all about the size and shape of a motorcycle gas tank. I just looked on-line and there's a place called ABC Vacuum selling them for $550 with free shipping to mainland US. I'd call that a very good investment in a vacuum cleaner.
Q:Is going door to door like a cheap vacuum cleaner salesman the best way to spread the eternal word of god?
Never had a vacuum cleaner salesman at the door. They do exist? Might have to retrain my dogs.

I dunno about three of them, but my vote goes for Kirby vacuums... And I freakin LOVE your avatar!
Q:I'm just curious about how often people vacuum. I have gone through yet another vacuum cleaner in a little over a year. I think it is because I vacuum every day sometimes twice a day and most people I know have vacuums that last years but they only do it once a week...possibly twice a week at the most. Thanks!
It's the vacuum you are buying. My stepmother used to vacuum the entire house (four bedrooms, 2 living rooms, stairs) everyday and her vacuum cleaners lasted years.
Q:I read somewhere that the company that once manufactured the popular Model XXX canister Electrolux vacuum cleaners (1930s-1950s) is now called Aerus--which makes 'Aerus' or 'Lux' machines. However, I still see Electrolux vacuum cleaners sold in big box stores that look a lot different from the old Electrolux canisters that my Grandmas and aunts used years ago; though the vacuum cleaners on the Aerus website look similar to the old Electrolux ones.

Q:Okay its the commercial where the women are using these vacuum cleaners and when they are vacuuming its sqeaking. It sounds like a bunch of dog toys. I know this is confusing! I just want to know what brand and vacuum they are advertising for!
dyson
Q:i tend to want a cannister because it easier to get underneath beds, tables, sofa......gimme brands and models if you can,,,XOXOXO
Get a Dyson. They rock! (well - as far as vacuum cleaners can rock, anyway...)
Q:I have a 1933 hoover 800. It needs the bearings greased really badly. And I have no idea how to do it.
then i suggest dont! you will never get it together again!
Q:Combines the cyclonic suction of a Dyson but utilizes a bag?I've used Dyson's (never owned one) and they have tremendous suction power, but I absolutely HATE the bag-less containers because when I empty them the dust goes everywhere and eventually you have to clean the containers and those filters inside. If there isn't anything that combines the best of both worlds, what upright (bag using) vacuum do you recommend as the best for a single floor mid-sized house?I really desire something that can get up close against the edge of the carpet and the side-boards and has good consistent suction power.
Dyson probably makes the best bagless vacuum available, closely followed by the Shark Navigator. I've never experienced mess issues with either of these vacuums while emptying them, however further use of the garbage can after the fact can stir the dust quite badly. For this reason I recommend emptying a bagless canister into a separate garbage bag, carefully folding the top over a few times, then putting that into your trash or directly into your refuse bin outside. Cheap knock-off bagless vacuums such as those made by Eureka don't work well to begin with and are horrendously messy to service. The pros of a bagless vacuum is that they do not hold odors like bag vacuums do, and they're easier to empty/service than most bag vacuums are. There are no bags to buy either, which depending on the brand you choose, can be quite expensive. Bag vacuums alleviate the dust issues, but still require the filters be serviced at regular intervals. Filter maintenance is part of vacuum ownership, as is cleaning the brush roll periodically to maintain optimal performance. The real downfall of bag vacuums is poor odor control, particularly if you have pets.
