I did use a booster rather than a regular high chair. We have a small house, and the booster seat took up a lot less space. It did not, however, recline. If your baby can't sit up straight in a chair, he's not ready for solids yet. The ability to sit well with support is one of the most important 'readiness' signs for starting solids. EDIT: Heather -- up to date doctors do not recommend starting solids at 4 months. Up to date doctors recommend starting no earlier than 6 months, UNLESS baby is clearly ready and in need of something more earlier .. and that 'readiness' includes the ability to sit up well.

you don't have to purchase them. Have you consider renting them? They cost around $3-5 per chair. You should call around and get information on them. I had my wedding covering all the chair. $3 and they come in and cover them and clean them up after the wedding. I am not sure how your wedding will be like. In my opinion I think it looks weird if you only cover certain chair.

Chairs of any kind will damage any type of floor aside from bare concrete. Roller chairs will damage wood floors no matter what type of wood it is. A protective mat will reduce that risk considerable. Roller chairs sit on a very small pivot point and the down ward pressure and the constant movement will accelerate the damage.
