Probably the only way to get a papasan chair cheaply is to get a used/second hand one. If you want to get one used, you could try Craigslist for your area. I don't know how old you are, so if you are young *ASK PERMISSION FROM YOUR PARENTS* to look at Craigslist online (there can be bad people online there), and if you ever buy anything online through Craigslist *MAKE SURE* someone goes with you if you go to pick it up. If you get a Pier One or used chair, you could make a slipcover for the cushion (in a fabric like the Dottie chair), but in all honesty I would save your time and trouble and buy the PBTeen one. There is a spray can product called Fusion, especially made for plastic. You will need to clean the chair really well for good adhesion. The Mr. Clean magic eraser sponges are the very best product for this job. You will be amazed how these sponges work. After cleaning, of course you will have to allow the chairs to completely dry before spraying. If you have a lot of spraying to do, there is a spray can attachment used like a trigger to spray the paint so your index finger does not go numb for two days. Yes, that happened to me. How can I get this smell off of my computer chair?: Spray evenly with Pet Spotter made by Zep, which you can purchase at Home Depot. let dry, preferably outside if possible.. Repeat so long as smell remains, and vacuum chair at end. It will work, but it may take a few times depending on how deep, the urine soaked into the chair. Another thing you could do if it is really bad, is wet the chair up pretty good with the pet spotter, but evenly, and then extract with shop vac if you have.. Look at vacuum attachemnt or hose end as you do this to see that liquid is still coming up, and just keep going til no more is, and then if it still smells( now that it is wet, if it will smell, it s gonna smell), keep repeating.. No matter how bad it is, this second way that I told you about should have it taken care of in the most an hour's time.

With respect to repairing them it is a little difficult to tell at a distance as I don't know what you like about them. I could tell you to cut off the bases and put legs on them but this does not immediately sound like it would be acceptable.

You allow air IN or OUT to adjust the height with a manual valve. It sounds like the valve is defective and leaking, which allows the chair to sink as you say. There are NO user repairable parts, so it is time for a new one... You can TRY rapidly cycling the valve several times to see if it will seal again, but once a leaker, it is most likely always a leaker...

I've bought two over the years and they offer great back support and have many adjustments available to fit your body type. They aren't cheap but you get what you pay for. I figure with as much time as I spend in an office chair, it's a wise investment.
