4. Ceramic Fiber Technical Parameters
There are four kinds of ceramic fiber products according to the temperature and chemical content. They are STD(1260℃),HP(1260℃),HA(1350℃, high alumina),HZ(1430℃,contain ZrO2).
1) For the blanket, the bulk density will be 64kg/m3, 96 kg/m3, 128 kg/m3, 160 kg/m3.
2) For the paper, the bulk density will be 160-220 kg/m3.
3) For the board, the bulk density will be 240-400kg/m3.

- Q: I want to insulate my old house that currently has zero insulation so that I can start saving at least a little on my heating billsI am going to start in my full size attic that has plank floorsI've emptied my attic over the years so it's free of boxes, etcCan I just lay R-44 (I'm in NY state) on top of the existing floor with the vapor barrier face down on the entire floor and install attic vents to ensure proper ventilation? Would this be beneficial at all? I thought about the blow in insulation but it's just me doing the work and I thought that just laying it down would be the easiest wayPulling up the planks would also be difficult and time consuming for me to do myselfAny knowledgeable opinions and input would be appreciatedThanks!
- For most people, this starts out as a small DIY project but grows fairly quicklyI run an insulation company in the Dallas, TX area and in my part of the country, batt type insulation is more expensive then having a professional blow in loose fill insulationPlus the loose fill type will give a better coverage and not allow small gaps in the insulation Depending on the installer, a pro can usually blow in insulation under the decking in the atticThis does greatly depend on how the decking is put in I would recommend getting at least three contractors to come over and look at the situation, then price doing it yourselfChances are, you will be surprised how cheap it is to have a professional contractor blow in insulation vslaying in batt type Good luck!
- Q: is it that it has a nearly perfect thermal blanket?especially given that its days are about a year long, wouldn't you expect a huge difference in temperature?
- you probably don't need a blanket at 45-65 degreesthe general rule is about 25 degrees and below they should have a blanket on on, unless its snowy, rainy, or very windyif you do get a blanket only put it on her when there are conditions as i have mentioned above, and at nightfeed her extra hay at night because the fiber helps her to keep herseld warmI would get a medium weight blanket that is water proofI seriously doubt that it will keep her coat from growing backAnd if by some chance it does, then take it off of her, unless it is 25 degrees and lower, or it's rainy, snowy, or windy; in which case she should have it on.

- Q: what exactly is recycled yarn?
- Greased might work, otherwise things will probably stick.
- Q: fiberglass or cellulose? I have heard negative things about cellulose such as more combustableI'm looking at blowing more insulation into my atticCellulose is less expensive, but is this a quot;you get what you pay for?quot;
- Most cellulose is treated with a flame retardant (boric acid), so it won't igniteRoof leaks will turn it into mush however, since it's shredded newspaperBlowing fiberglass is about 4-5 times the costWhile cellulose does settle some over time, it's not enough to not use itFiberglass allows alot more air to move through it (moving air less R-value)I've been using both products for 25+ years and I'd use the cellulose in your atticRegardless of which insulation you use, be sure to air-seal any unwanted penetrations through your ceiling (around wires, pipes, or chimney) before you blow insulationUse the proper material/sealant for the taskthe chimney gets hot, so use metal and a high-temp sealant.
