Q:Hello! I was wondering if Vacuum cleaners get rid of germs. I mean, when I think about it, doesn't it probably suck all the germs up? Perhaps it may not kill germs, but it at least gets rid of them on a particular surface(like the carpet.)And if they don't get rid of germs, than how can I get rid of germs on the carpet? I know that Steam Cleaning and shampooing the carpet are good measures, but I don't want to do that on like a weekly basis. I am looking for something that can get rid of germs at least once a week.

a vacuum will suck up things like dust mites and other irritants. but if you are thinking about germs then no. the best defense for germs is basic soap and water. but you are right. who wants to wash their carpet every week. also it isn't good for your carpet unless you live in the south and it is summer. that way it will dry completely in just a few hours. there are a few things that come to mind here. you can use a typical disinfecting spray like lysol. or you can use a damp mop and go over the carpet. that also helps with allergens. over all there really isn't much germs in carpet. sun light kills alot of germs. and if you are truly worried about it. then wood floors are always nice.

Q:My son likes to help out around the house (he's 2 and a half). He has a toy vacuum cleaner, but I want one that actually works and picks things up. If he's going to quot;helpI want him to be productive. lol If you know of any good vacuums (upright or otherwise, one that works on carpet and vinyl flooring, etc.), and is relatively inexpensive, please let me know! dirt devil brand for kids actualy picks up like a sweeper vac and you can empty out the dirt and everything it picks up.

My dogs are pretty laid back its not so much of a annoyance but when my dogs see penguins on the TV especially when they make the noise they do they try to get into the TV to get them .Barking dogs on the TV dont bother them but penguins dear me .

Vacuum cleaners are pretty simple and replacement parts cheap and easy to get. If you or someone you know is pretty handy, start disassembling the machine and the problem will probably be apparent.

Air currents from forced-air heating and air-conditioning will spread the allergens throughout the house. Homes with forced-air heating and/or air-conditioning may be fitted with a central air cleaner. This may remove significant amounts of pet allergens from the home. The air cleaner should be used at least four hours per day. The use of heating and air-conditioning filters and HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arresting) filters as well as vacuuming carpets, cleaning walls and washing the pet with water are all ways of reducing exposure to the pet allergen. Vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters are now available. However, in a patient with severe symptoms resulting from animal dander exposure, a HEPA filter is not an effective solution.

Q:I am wanting to buy one of those self-activated quot;robotvacuum cleaners. But I need one that will have good enough suction to vacuum up a LOT of dog hair. What is the best one?

Don't waste your money - you will be extremely unhappy with the results. Cleaning one of those robots does not just involve dumping the trash - you need to clean the brushes and rollers as well. The bad part about irobot is that pet hair will wrap tightly around the guides on the sides of the rollers. You can't just pick that off - it takes a tool to pry the stuff loose.
