- Q: If One doesn't care about phase-frequency or voltage and need a high speed generator can current be fed to the rotor so that these motors can be used as a generator?One more question:What voltage is needed for the rotor? Say for example the120 volts single phase motor's normal running speed is 10,000, what voltage needs to be fed to the rotor so that if one is turning the motor at this speed it would generate around 120 Volts. I know there is a lot of problem with this set up but since its being converted to DC and used in a hydrogen production system, Voltage or frequency isn't a big issue.
- Plug-in drills and vacuum cleaners have usually been universal motors, essentially the same thing as series connected DC motors. I don't believe they can be used as generators without changing the internal connections. The Dyson vacuums apparently use permanent magnet motors as do battery powered drills. Those motors would probably make good generators, but you would need to eliminate the electronic control and connect directly to the motor coils. Any motor that can be used as a generator would generate the rated voltage at the rated speed for which it was designed as a motor.
- Q: what is the history behind it, future designs background research.
- No one really knows when the first hand held vacuum cleaner was created but it was long after first vacuum cleaners were invented. First portable cleaners were carried on back until technology allowed to minimised their size. Future designs? Dyson DC30 Hand Held is a future IMO, but who knows? FOr sure they will be lighter and more compact.
- Q: I don't know much about vacuum cleaners. My vacuum cleaner isn't working now. I changed the filter, but it does not pick up the stuff on the carpet. I vacuum over it and it doesn't pick it. I don't know what is wrong with it. I think our last vacuum cleaner may have done that and we just got a new one. What is wrong? Is there a vacuum repair person that fixes vacuum cleaners? Where do i go for that sort of thing?
- If it's an upright with instant hand wand. Step on release and let top rest on the floor, remove the hand wand, clean the tube the wand came out of carefully, with a hanger. The hose the wand is on can also clog too. I could give you more help if I knew what type of vacuum it is.
- Q: I have a habit of asking weird questions, but I think it is interesting how different regions/areas of people have different ways of saying/naming things. For instance, where I'm from, we call vacuum cleaners 'sweepers' and apparently other people don't. And then there is the whole 'pop' and 'soda' difference (I stick with pop). - some are vernacular and others colloquialisms. In the Midwest you'd say making dinner. In the south or southwest, fixin' dinner. We called vacuum cleaners Hoovers since they were the most popular in the 1930's. Sweepers were usually made by Bissell, and were un-powered. Lunch was dinner, and dinner was supper in Oklahoma.

- Q: Are there any top tips from preventing or removing dust from the inside of a pc???Couldnt see any specialist vacuum cleaners anywhere??
- I open the case and clean mine out and clean the fans with a q tip and when I am not using it, I cover the tower with a plastic bag, does not look pretty though they do make regular covers for the tower and keyboard. Once you get it clean, the cover really helps cut down on the dust. I have a small hand helpd mini vaccum with attachments for the computer and though I seldom to never have to use it on my own I have used it on several that I have worked on. People use that canned air but for every piece of dust or lent that you blow off, it lands somewhere else in the pc. I recommend cleaning with a soft cloth and a q tip, be carefull and then cover with a bag, towel or ect. You will notice a big difference in the amount of dust that you accumulate. Hope this helps.

- Q: Hello! I was wondering if Vacuum cleaners get rid of germs. I mean, when I think about it, doesn't it probably suck all the germs up? Perhaps it may not kill germs, but it at least gets rid of them on a particular surface(like the carpet.)And if they don't get rid of germs, than how can I get rid of germs on the carpet? I know that Steam Cleaning and shampooing the carpet are good measures, but I don't want to do that on like a weekly basis. I am looking for something that can get rid of germs at least once a week.
- I know all the green people out there will hate my answer, but if you are concerned about germs in your carpet, the best stuff i know is Lysol disinfectant spray. I spray it on my carpets, my mattresses, couch arms, everywhere. It costs, it's not good for the planet, but it works. Vacuums can't vacuum up or kill germs. Sorry. Not yet.
