If that cant be done the other idea is glue or hand sew the a length of Velcro to the under side of the rug in each corner. Use the hook part of the Velcro so it catches the old carpet and hold the rug in place.

- Yes, I worked in a carpet store for 8 years and what we told customers is to have it loose laid meaning get a roll that doesn't need seaming and can go right under the molding around the walls if you don't want the carpet tacks to mess up the wood.
