- Q: I am installing a GFCI outlet in the kitchen (20 AMP) the box that it is already installed in has more than nine wires running into it. What I need to know is how does one determine the load wires from line wires when there are multiple wires running to an outlet box?
- if you have three romex wires coming to the box (which isn't uncommon) then each has a white, black, and bare copper ground. if you have 4 concuctor wires then there will also be a red wire too, 4 conductor wires are used to run to ceiling lights so you can use one wire but feed 2 switches like separate control for ceiling fan and light or vent fan and light for bathrooms. to determine the line vs load wires you need to take note of how everything is connected and write it down, then disconnect the wires and use a volt meter to see which black wires have power. once you do this follow it back to where you see the outer sheeting covering all three wires (white, black, and bare copper ground) in that romex wire and this is your power supply in. the rest are your load wires. as noted you should have some electrical experience to be doing this because if things aren't connected correctly it can be a fire hazard. in your case if all you are doing is swapping out a regular outlet for a gfi then its easy because all white and copper wires are common connections and connected to each other so just connect your GFI as the other outlet was connected with black as your load side and connect the ground wire to it. if you are trying to put in a gfi to also protect the rest of the outlets on that line then determine the black that has power and that goes to your load side and the rest of the blacks are fed from the load side terminal controlled through the breaker
- Q: i hav a 2000 explorer and just got a new head unit and bought a wiring harness to hook it up. on the wiring harness that's supposed to be plugged in to the truck there are 2 illumination wires, 1 of them is the illumination ground .Out of my new stereo there is only the illumination wire not an illumination ground wire. where do I put the illumination ground ? also i have 2 ground wires coming from my new deck 1 is 12v ground and the other is a chassis ground can i just hook them together?

- Q: first wire change
- Depends on how many little kinks he's putting in it. Also depends on how fast he works, if your wire needs a lot of work or a little, and if he already has an idea of what he wants to do or if he's just guessing along the way. It shouldn't take longer for him to make the actual kinks than it does the remove and replace the wire. That's a little more labor intensive and can take about 5-10 minutes for each wire. The whole thing, uninterrupted might last 30-45 minutes.
- Q: How does this work? Does the missile drag a wire?
- The Ruhrstahl X-4 was the first wire guided air-to-air missile and was designed by Germany during World War II. The missile was stabilized by spinning it slowly in flight, at about 60 rpm. This meant that any asymmetrical thrust from the engine, or inaccuracies in the control surfaces, would be evened out as the missile spun. Signals were sent to the missile over two wires that were wound onto spools on the missile body, and corrected the direction of flight by operating control surfaces on the tail. A gyroscope kept track of up so that the control inputs from the pilot's joystick in the launch aircraft would be translated into yaw and pitch even as the missile rolled. Flares attached to two of the mid-section wings were used to keep the missile visible through the smoke of its engine. The missile had a range of 4Km
- Q: What type of wire do i need to install a normal inside wall outlet? Do i have to use solid copper wire?
- Buy AWG # 14X2 cable inside includes one more bare copper wire for grounding. Solid single conductor is the common product.
- Q: Two wires, 2.44 m apart, both carry current 2.2 A toward the bottom of the screen. The right wire is extremely long, and the left wire is 0.36 m long. What is the magnetic force on the left wire?
- Magnetic force, F = BIL --------(1) where B is the magnetic flux density of the magnetic field caused by the right wire, acting perpendicularly to the left wire in Tesla I is the current in the left wire in Amperes L is the length of the left wire in metres To find B (due to the right wire), you have to use the formula B = (?0)(I)/(2πr) -----(2) where the I in this case is the current in the right wire, r is the distance between the two wires, and ?0 is the permeability of free space, numerically defined as ?0 = 4π×10?7 using eqn (2) so B (due to right wire) = (?0x2.2)/(2πx2.44) = 1.8x10^-7 T using eqn (1) and the value of B calculated above F = (1.8x10^-7 x 2.2 x 0.36) = 1.43x10-7 N
- Q: Also what are FORD RACING 9MM SPARK PLUG WIRES i would be putting these on my Bronco....what do they do....do i need them?
- Spark plug wires. The Ford 9mm wires are bigger then the normal 7mm ( I think ) wires. And when you have bigger then normal wires, the wire separaters that hold the wires on the valve covers need to also be bigger, hence the wire looms. No, you don't need the larger wires until you add to the ignition system and increase it's electrical capacity. But they do look better. Probably can get regular size wires in the Ford blue, too.
- Q: I am installing a Pioneer head unit in a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder. All the wires from the harness to the deck are connected according to color. I was able to connect all of the wires except for the stock orange/black wire coming out of Nissan's harness. I am assuming this wire has something to do with the illumination. The pioneer does not have an orange/black wire to connect it to. The deck will not turn on at all if the orange/black wire is:- not connected to anything- connected to the red power wire- connected to the yellow power wireThe deck will turn on if the orange/black wire is:- connected to the black ground wire- connected to the remote wireHowever when the headlights are turned on the head unit cuts off and will not turn back on until the headlights are shut off again. In other words, the deck will work fine until the headlight switch is turned to the on position. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Thanks, Dan
- This link may not be accurate... The only wire I see in the first link which is close in color is the black/yellow wire for the left rear speaker ground....no black/orange combo shown. Factory ground wire should be grey...test with a test light to confirm Constant power is pink....test also Switched power is blue...test also Once you confirm which wires are power and ground, hook those up to the deck wiring and then run the speaker wires to the proper ones on the factory harness. You can't always connect the same color wires from an add-on deck unit to factory wiring....wiring colors will differ. Consult the installation instructions or call the deck manufacturer tech assistance hotline. Make sure you have the correct wires from the deck hooked up to those factory wires....I'm thinking you have the wrong wire hooked up to the rear speaker ground or deck ground and the unit will only ground when that wire is activated somehow when the light switch is on.... /blue? is the factory illumination wire according to the first link. Have you got that hooked up wrong with the deck ground or speaker?
- Q: I'm installing a remote start system in my car, but I can't find the tach wire. Does anyone know what harness it is located in, and what color the cable is? I've looked over the diagrams, but I can't seem to find the cable that runs to the tach guage.
- You can use a wire from a fuel injector. They should have two wires. Look at all of them and use a wire that is NOT common to other injector wires.
- Q: What is a wiring harness?
