FAQ
Is it best to go for a more powerful vacuum cleaner?
The power of a vacuum cleaner’s motor is measured in Watts. The higher the Wattage the better it will clean, as long as the machine is well designed with good air flow and suction power too. However, the higher the wattage, the noisier the machine will be. With upright vacuum cleaners. you don’t need to have so much wattage or suction power as you do with a cylinder cleaner as the dirt has less distance to travel before it reaches the bag or dust container. The type of brushes are more of an important consideration with uprights than the power. You don’t always want to have a vacuum cleaner operating at full power for example, when cleaning upholstery or curtains, so it’s useful to be able to adjust the power level yourself.
Which attachments should I look out for?
Most vacuum cleaners come with three attachments, a crevice tool, upholstery and dusting brushes and a small head which is best for vacuuming stairs. You can also get additional turbo brushes which have their own motor for extra suction which are useful for cleaning deep-pile carpets or a power cleaning head which has electrically powered rotating brushes. A hard-floor or parquet brush is useful for wooden or tiled floors. Some cleaners have extendable tubes which are useful for hard to reach areas like cobwebs in the corners of ceilings.
I have a large house? What should I look out for?
Look for a cleaner with a large cleaning head – this will help cut down the amount of time it takes to vacuum a room. Also get as long a lead as you can get to cut down on the number of times you have to unplug the lead and plug it in again. You may also want to consider getting a model with a large capacity dust collector or bag so that you don’t have to empty it as frequently. If you have a lot of stairs, you may want to get a cylinder model with a long stretchy stair-cleaning hose.
- Q: I would like to hear from users of the H20 Vacuum Cleaners. Are they as good as they say?
- yeah, they really suck
- Q: functionality of vacuum cleaners and internal combustion engines and how you would go about improving them. Any ideas?!
- yes,i have ideas... use a broom stick and a bicycle,`cos it`s cleaner...
- Q: Just a couple of the many tips that I have for vacuum cleaners. So, what's the clogger king?HAIRPINS, BOBIPINS! I service vacuum cleaners and the number one thing I find in the hoses of clogged vacuums are the hairpins that end up lodged sideways there because the spinning brushroller underneath the vacuum separates the pin and everything that follows must somehow travel around the pin. It's usually a small piece of cardboard, or a matchbook cover.REMEDY?Get yourself a magnet and skim the floor first. You can also get a magnetic strip that goes across the front of the vacuum online at any vacuum cleaner parts supplier. Now, for the filters.Hepa's CLOG! FAST! The vacuum cleaner manufactures know this and they screw you out of your money. PERIOD!Hoover uses ELECTROSTATIC MEDIA to make their filters. So you know what they do. 99.97%...SO DO THESE:A TEN PACK OF 4X 11ELECTROSTATIC REGISTER VENT FILTERS- cut-STACK-glueCOST?$2.79where? Lowe's in the furnace filter section.
- Thanks for the tips...But I have a 15yr old Kirby and have had no problems with it.....:)
- Q: Some of the requirements include:1) Under $2002) Bagless3) Can reach the corners4) Durability and easy to clean5) Not heavy (no muscles at all)I need specific model number not just the brand name. Thanks!

- Q: everytime i turn my vacuum cleaner on ,my dog gos nuts starts barking and trys to bite it, ?? why they do that
- They don't.. Dogs that haven't been socialized to the vacuum or a dog that has been teased w/ a vacuum might act like that. Normal well balanced dogs don't do that. Edit : The vacuum does not hurt their ears, most of my dogs love to be vacuumed.. The rest of them just lay there and make me vacuum around them... 10 dogs and none of them are afraid... Hmmm... None of them are death.. It MUST be that they are socialized well and well bred, well balanced dogs who have no ridiculous fears..
- Q: Lawnmowers, vacuum cleaners, weird noises in general ect... ??? Thank you for answering.
- Nothing annoys my Tibetan Mastiff mix. Like Greek said, my dog also has a sound-nerved temperament. My rescue APBT mix doesn't have as sound of a temperament. Although she has a better temperament than many of the purebreds I know, she is still afraid of the vacuum and she shuts down if you raise your voice at her, but only in the house. Outside, she doesn't give a rats *** if you yell.
- Q: Don't men vacuum too?
- Who do you think makes the purchasing decision for the vacuum cleaner in most cases? Men are not really the target audience for those advertising dollars. It would be a very poor investment. I'm sure some women use power tools, too, but I have yet to see a Craftsman commercial for Mother's Day.
- Q: What about the Kirby vacuum cleaners?
- What about Kirby Vacuum Cleaners? I know they're are noisy, and grossly over priced. You can talk the salesman down to around $600.00. Check first to see if the salesperson is driving a cadillac Escalade. Also, the sales people prey on old people, and will not leave the home until the unit is sold.
- Q: Hi, I'm looking for an answer from someone who subscribes to consumer reports magazine. When was their last article on vacuum cleaners published? I'm looking for a comprehensive review of vacuums, not one article on a specific model. Thanks for the help
- Pop into your local library and see if they have the 2010 Buying Guide that Consumer Reports puts out. That's the last one I remember seeing. However, I will warn you, I was disappointed. They rated Hoover very high and after having two of them and nothing but trouble with no results from Hoover, I went to a Bissell Healthy Home. Now happy as a clam with my vacuum.
- Q: We are moving to a house that has tile in the kitchen and dining room and since I don't want to be just pushing the dust around with my broom anymore I wanted to know which of you use those stick type vacuum cleaners that you use on tile floors and thin carpet. Which work good but are still inexpensive ?? Either corded or cordless .
- I think the Miele brooms are the best in the world. Very strong, quiet and can be used for bare floors or rugs.
