Q:I was alway under the assumption that most places will traditionally and intentionally not place a 13th floor (skip up to 14th) due to superstition. Well, I was just watching an episode of Mindfreak and Chris angel was doing a stunt with skeptics and elevator shafts at the Luxor. Well, at the end of the session they show Floor 13 on the wall. Was that placed there intentionally for the show, was it all staged? can someone explain that to me?
Most modern buildings don't adhere to this convention; for example, the building I work in has 14 stories, which are numbered 1 through 14 (though the elevator only goes up to 13, and you have to take the stairs to the 14th... quirky fact). Interestingly, not all cultures consider 13 to be inauspicious. I've heard of buildings which skip the 19th floor (though I can't seem to find a reference on this right now).
Q:The kind of water used in the hospital is that it can be washed with water, and it is very thin and very light. The surface is made of stone.
Hospital floor product structure: PVC floor. PVC flooring is a very popular in the world today, a new type of lightweight ground decoration materials, also known as "light body material." "PVC floor" refers to the use of PVC material produced by the floor. Specifically, polyvinyl chloride and its copolymer resin as the main raw material, adding filler, plasticizer, stabilizer, coloring agent and other accessories, in the continuous sheet on the substrate, the coating process or by rolling, extrusion or extrusion Craft production. The main use of the place: the education system (including schools, training centers, kindergartens, etc.) medical systems (including hospitals, laboratories, pharmaceutical plants, nursing homes, etc.) business systems (including shopping malls, supermarkets, hotels, entertainment and leisure center, (Factory, building, etc.) Industrial systems (factory buildings, warehouses, etc.) Transportation systems (airports, railway stations, bus stations, docks, etc.) Home system (family, Indoor living room, bedroom, kitchen, balcony, study, etc.)
Q:What are the advantages and disadvantages from a 1st floor apartment to a 2nd floor apartment?
First floor apartment is cooler in the summer and your utility bills will be less. Also you don't have to carry everything up a flight of stair. Draw backs are noise from people walking,running,dancing,etc.. up stairs. Also the pluming is connected and if you get a backup it all comes out in your apartment. Second floor apartment has a better view, unless it's the parking lot. It's warmer in the winter as heat raises. I only had to turn by heater on in the mornings to knock the chill out of the air. It's also hotter in the summer. Not as much noise from the down stairs neighbors. The problem is carrying everything and I mean everything up a flight of stairs. Also when you move out it all has to be carried back down.
Q:Is not the length of the board is not the same, the interval is not the same?
In order to plan the interval according to the length of the floor. 910mm floor, on the 30cm. 600mm is 30cm. If it is 750mm, use a little keel (37.5cm).
Q:Which is cheaper, having my badly damaged oak floors patched and refinished by a professional or installing a pergo type floor over the existing flooring myself? I know the level of the floor will be raised up a bit. That's ok.
Home Depot carrys a flooring called Allure. It looks like wood but its vinyl and really cheap. Installs over just about anything and unlike Pergo its moisture proof. Its super easy to install too. This would probably be cheapest but I would really look into getting the real wood floors refinished, you will be SO much happier with real wood.
Q:I am nearing completion of construction for my own new 2 story home. On the 2nd floor, I am planning to install a floating bamboo floor (5/8" stranded type) over gypcrete (lightweight concrete floor poured over radiant in-floor heat tubing. I think I can handle most everything, but I am not certain what the best option(s) is for running the floating floor into the staircase which goes down to the first floor. In the rest of the house, the edge of the floating floor will get covered by baseboard, but at the top step, there is no such option. Does anyone have suggestions as to the best way to deal with this? One more thing - it's tongue and groove and I was planning to glue the boards together. I already have the flooring and there are stairnosings I have with a groove on them which I was planning on assembling with the planks to cover the stairs too.
Just make sure you don't create a tripping hazzard. Purchase a hardwood stair nosing to match your stair treads (Oak?). Then make sure that the nosing hangs past the stair riser the same as the others. It will probably be Thicker than the flooring but you can take it to a local cabinet shop and have them cut a rabbett ( an offset) in it . Good Luck
Q:I am planning on installing a new floor in the kitchen of a very old house. The current floor is not level. On one end, its about an inch higher than the other end. Is it possible to level the entire floor with the self leveling concrete mix or some other form of self leveling liquid?
Instead of using concrete because you would be adding more weight to your floor and your floor might not be able to handle the weight. You could put in a false floor. Depending on the pitch. You would be ripping 2x4 (or which ever size that you would use) on the angle that your floor pitches. These would be like the floor joist below. Then lay some new plywood on top. This way you wouldn't have as much weight added to your floor. If you still want to use a more denser product you could add support to your floor from the basement or crawl space below. Good luck
Q:The flat above mine has squeaky floors and it is, at times, unbearable. The problem is that the floors are 'floating floors' and they haven't been laid properly. My flats are 5 years old and I have a 10 year warranty, although the builder says the floors only have a 2 year warranty. Can anyone shine light on this situation??
It isn't exactly the floor that's squeaking. It's the nails that were used to put down the plywood and sub-flooring. The nails were either too short, not driven in hard enough, or there were too few nails used, so when someone is walking around the wood flexes and the squeak you hear are the nails moving up and down. There isn't much of a practical cure for that other than driving new and longer nails into the floor and plenty of them. So, a floating floor system can be pulled up rather easily and since you have a 10 year warranty I would demand the builder fix the problem. It is NOT the wood squeaking, but the nails, and the carpenter that installed the plywood did an inferior job. The builder is going to contend that you're (I'm) wrong in an effort to get out of correcting the problem. I would sue him and challenge him to provide you with a set of blueprints along with a copy of the manufacturers specs on requirements for installing the plywood and sub-flooring. Once again, it would be easy to pull up a section of the floating floor to inspect the integrity of what's underneath it. I hope that helps.
Q:What is the quality of b grade laminate flooring? Does it scratch if a piece of paper touches it?
Laminate flooring is not that great to begin with, b grade is just junk to be perfectly honest. It is definitely worth it to spend the extra cash for quality stuff. You will be glad you did.
