Aluminium foil (or aluminum foil) is aluminium prepared in thin metal leaves with a thickness less than 0.2 millimetres (8 mils); thinner gauges down to 6 micrometres (0.24 mils) are also commonly used.In the United States, foils are commonly gauged in thousandths of an inch or mils. Standard household foil is typically 0.016 mm (0.63 mils) thick, and heavy duty household foil is typically 0.024 mm (0.94 mils). Thefoil is pliable, and can be readily bent or wrapped around objects. Thin foils are fragile and are sometimeslaminated to other materials such as plastics or paper to make them more useful. Aluminium foil supplantedtin foil in the mid 20th century.
In North America, aluminium foil is known as aluminum foil. It was popularized by Reynolds Metals, the leading manufacturer in North America. In the United Kingdom and United States it is, informally, widely called tin foil, for historical reasons (similar to how aluminum cans are often still called "tin cans").Metallised films are sometimes mistaken for aluminium foil, but are actually polymer films coated with a thin layer of aluminium. In Australia, aluminium foil is widely called alfoil.
Aluminium (or aluminum; see spelling differences) is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery white, soft, nonmagnetic, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface.
Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.
Physical
Aluminium is a relatively soft, durable, lightweight, ductile and malleable metal with appearance ranging from silvery to dull gray, depending on the surface roughness. It is nonmagnetic and does not easily ignite. A fresh film of aluminium serves as a good reflector (approximately 92%) of visible light and an excellent reflector (as much as 98%) of medium and far infrared radiation. The yield strength of pure aluminium is 7–11 MPa, while aluminium alloys have yield strengths ranging from 200 MPa to 600 MPa.Aluminium has about one-third the density and stiffness of steel. It is easily machined, cast, drawn and extruded.
Aluminium atoms are arranged in a face-centered cubic (fcc) structure. Aluminium has a stacking-fault energy of approximately 200 mJ/m2.
Aluminium is a good thermal and electrical conductor, having 59% the conductivity of copper, both thermal and electrical, while having only 30% of copper's density. Aluminium is capable of being a superconductor, with a superconducting critical temperature of 1.2 Kelvin and a critical magnetic field of about 100 gauss (10 milliteslas).
- Q: How strong would chain mail armor be if it were made of anodized aluminum? Thinking of getting this, but not sure if it is worth it.
- Depends on what you mean by strong. Considering that the chain mail shirt on that site is butted mail (rings that have simply been bent closed).... If you are going to be using it for any contact re-enactment type stuff, or any kind of protective gear, definitely not. You can bend aluminum rings open with your bare fingers. So anything hitting that mail with force will destroy it very quickly. Even steel rings make for pretty useless protection if it is butted. The rings simply bend open. If you want protective chainmail, the rings will have to be either riveted or welded closed, and made of steel. If you mean durable for just wearing as cosplay or for a quirky fashion statement, then it will probably last a long time, though with aluminum, the rings have a tendency to bend open on their own. I?m not sure if anodized rings will do this because I?ve never used anodized rings. If you can get a riveted or welded version then that will certainly last a life time, but I wouldn?t use it as protective gear unless it was made of steel.
- Q: Dallas, area
- In India all the paper mills are importing old and over issue news paper, computer printout, kraftpaper, old magazinesAluminium scrap like old vessals, sheets of bits and old pistons is purchased in india at a better price and are importingplastics are also imported, but i donot know the marketold cable scrape is also required in india
- Q: Hello, tonight is my night to cook dinner and I want to cook something delicious but I don't want to cook spaghetti, pizza, burgers, or stuff like thatI want to cook something that's not too hard and not too time consuming but not too easy eitherAll answers are welcome thanks :)
- what you are looking for is called a flasher it's on the fuse box under the dash it should be a round plastic piece .
- Q: I need to make a fairly accurate construction of a monkey and i dont want to use plasticine or play-dohWhat are some different options and materials?
- Spray foam actually provides the best insulation per inchIt is expensive though and it will push apart your walls if you don't have one side removedFor a preexisting wall the best bet is loose insulationthat requires a couple of holes in every stud bay.
- Q: ok i have used a hair remover and it just broke me out cuz my skin is to sensitivebut what i wanna know is will peroxide make my hair white or just lighten it? and how do i bleach my happy trail on my belly wih peroxide
- You have to apply aluminum foil in order for peroxide to workSo here's what I would do since you have sensitive skinApply a thin and I mean thin layer of vaseline on the area (hair and all) then apply(wet area) peroxide, then cover with FOILWait a few minutes then check to see how light it has becomeCover again with the foil until it is as light as you want itRemove foilWipe away vaselineApply a good conditioner to the area(this will lessen skin irritation), leave on until dryRinse area thoroughly with waterThe foil is what is going to make the peroxide workOr you could do it the natural wayMix 1 cup of water and juice from a halved lemonStir, then apply and re-apply to the areaKeep applying for 15 minutes then lay in the sunafter laying in the sun rinse off with tap or bottled waterReturn home and apply Dove soap to the area, let stay on for as long as possible, then rinse area.
- Q: does any body has the solutions manual forAntenna Theory: Analysis and Design: 3rd edition?
- Aluminum's atomic number is 13 and its electron configuration is 3s?2 3p?1That's three s squared three p to the first powerAnd its electrons per shell are 2, 8, 3 Hopefully that's what you were looking for.
- Q: I have an aluminum boat and need to bolt a stainless steel trim tab to it below the water lineI was told these metals are not compatible and must not make direct contact with each otherAny suggestions as to not allow these metals to touch? I'm thinking a rubber gasket or maybe a specialty paintWhat type metal for the 3/16 quot; machine screws would you recommend? Thanks.
- Yes, just sprinkle a bit of corn meal on the pan before bakingOr, use parchment paper(this is assuming you use your sheets for baking on a regular basis- ours, used for pizza on a regular basis so it doesn't matter if it sticks a bit)
- Q: In a lab experiment, you added sodium metal to aluminum oxide. Write a balanced equation for this experiment and predict whether or not a reaction will occur.Benzene (C6H6) is a common industrial solvent. Write a balanced equation for the combustion of benzene in oxygen. Assume that the combustion is complete.
- 1) 6Na + Al2O3 -- 3Na2O + 2Al A reaction will occur 2) 2C6H6 + 15O2 -- 6H2O + 12CO2
- Q: whats the process of applying highlights to black hair in a salon? I heard it damages itWhat about semi permanent?
- It's tough to sayThe way people drive, I just mightBefore we resort to wearing helmets though, perhaps much more emphasis should be placed on safer drivingIf we go for helmets, then you should go the whole distance with roll cages, 4 point harnesses, fireproof suits, etcNow you're basically building a race car and dressing like a race car driverThey do this because of the nature of the sport which involves a higher percentage of violent crashesI guess if we've come to the point that on our roads we're all heading out to have a demolition derby everyday, it's time to suit upI submit that we should just avoid the crashes altogether by paying more attention and educating ourselves on safe drivingIt's cheaper, easier, and safer that way.
