The range is typically in between $45,000 and $60,000. The salary depends on the industry and location you are applying at. Government vs Private or Public companies also make a big difference in salaries and benefits offered. I think it is safest to ask for $55,000.

It should already be built into the laptop. However, you don't need a $100 surge protector, computer stores have many for less than $20 (or hardware stores). Try there first, it wouldnt hurt to have extra protection.

Well, often Hardware and Software are used to distinguish between those who design circuits and those who write code. This distinction is necessary because many colleges still include both hardware and software as Electrical Engineering degrees. In a more concrete sense, hardware is the wires, IC's resistors, capacitors, etc. that make up a circuit. The only applicable meaning of Panel I can think of is a distribution panel, which is a box of fuses or circuit-breakers (like the fuse box in your basement).

The lines are mostly copper or aluminum for the wires themselves. The towers are steel. They would last for decades easily. But lines that run from transformers to homes or neighborhoods could fail earlier. Look at what happens with ice storms in New England. Substations and transformers would last quite long also. But the power stations would last for anywhere from hours to weeks, depending on the degree of automation, and on chance. .

I am confused about this figure because some equipments have 230 Volts AC (50 Hz) specified as their operating voltage while some others have 240 V AC (Hz). I practically measured the supplied voltage. It was something like 235 V AC. So I am confused about the standard figure. Is it 230 V AC or 240 V AC ?

If you measured the supply you must be in India. Why don't you call the electricity supply people and ask them what their official figure is? You should also ask them within what limits the variation is controlled. The difference in the figure stated on an item of electrical equipment, i.e. 230 vs 240, is irrelevant. They all will have a margin, maybe plus or minus 10 or 15%, within which they will work satisfactorily.

I am a mechanical engineer and i have had 4 different jobs and i'm forced to be an expert in electrical engineering, because everything is electrical/electronics/computerized these days. Mech engineering covers this variety of extensive field of interest from engines to bridges and each thing in between. the two require a severe degree of maths know-how as lots of the classes are greater like utilized maths.
