Q:I have a 98 Pontiac Grand Prix. The fluid is not dispensing. There is plenty of fluid. The nozzles are not clogged. I changed the fuse. So I‘m thinking it‘s the pump. I searched the problem but could only find advice for several different cars, unfortunately not mine. I don‘t have a tester so I‘m taking a chance buying a new pump. I doubt they will give me a refund if that is not the problem.
If you can remove the plastic that surrounds the wheel you can go in that way easier. Yes those pumps do fail. A new pump is an easy install if you can splice wires. Make sure you get a rubber grommet with your new pump. They like to leak after ten years old.
Q:I live in Chicago and this winter has been horrible to us. It has been a whole lot of snow and below freezing temperatures. Because of all the snow my car is cover in salt (just like everyone else‘s). The temperature isn‘t warming up and won‘t be for a while so I can‘t just get my car washed. I was thinking that maybe I can clean the salt off with the wiper fluid. The brand I have doesn‘t freeze until under - 20°. I have read that the wiper fluid isn‘t really good for the finish, but is it really any worse than the salt?
Park in a heated underground garage for a day while you do some shopping. Yes, it's much worse than salt on your finish, salt attacks any exposed metal ( usually rock chips ), the windshield wiper fluid attacks the paint and finish. The deicing fluid they use on planes is 95% sodium acetate. If you remember from grade school, vinegar and baking soda makes sodium acetate and lots of CO2. However, household vinegar is only 5% to 10% vinegar with rest being water so I don't know how effective it would be. Just bear with it and leave your car covered in salt like everyone else, trying to wipe it down would use the salt as an abrasive.
Q:Straight to some sort of switch with a high low med setting?
The wiper motor is a complex system of gears, electronics, and electrical contacts. This is why the wipers reverse direction when they operate. There would be no way to do what you said. Your cheapest bet is to go to a junkyard and get the parts you need off a donor car.
Q:I drive a 98 Honda CR-V and accidentally left the wipers on when I shut the car off. Came back and started up the car to warm it up and the wipers went off and tried to push the snow off of the windshield - now the driver‘s side wiper doesn‘t work. It twitches a little bit but won‘t move at all. How much will this cost to repair (I am in Massachusetts) and is it possible to fix myself? I‘m not even entirely sure what is broken.
Everybody says buy new blades, right ? Well lets see if we can fix the problem first. Go to the spot where the wiper arm is mounted to the car, lift the plastic cover off and you should see a nut holding down the wiper arm. Usually 12 mm could be 13mm , take it off, and lift the wiper arm all the way back. ( 90 o to the windshield) There should be grooves running lenghtwise on the shaft part that is tapered. Wipe those clean with a rag or wire brush. NOT your fingers. Spray oil helps loosen the pieces. Try and clean the hole on the wiper arm. Chances are the grooves on the arm are now being scraped off the shaft. Its a kind of safety so you dont burn out the motor in case of what just happened. A new arm would be the best bet $15-40 most jobbers. But in a pinch just wrap a small piece of aluminum foil 3/8 x 3/4 around the splined section of the shaft and reinstall the old arm , make sure that the wipers are ' Parked ' before putting it together, leave the arm up when you first test it. Remember to remove the tin foil when you put the new arm on. This is only a quick fix and may well last years, but I make no such claim. Fix it right and get a new arm
Q:i have a 91 gmc jimmy 4 door le. my wiper control works sorta i cannot get wipers to move unless i use the wash setting. and im not looking to spend $100 bucks for the control arm so im wondering if i can set up a 3 position toggle switch on my dash that will allow for wipers to work? i know it sounds dumb but i would like to have a (off, med, high) setting so if its possible what wires would i have to use?
sounds like the control switch is bad
Q:Other than having it serviced, what are my options?
usually their is a transmission that connects one wiper to the other, sometimes the joint wears out and it comes apart. you access it from the grill below the wipers, you can take a look your self,or pay a mechanic to see what happened. Most cars have one wiper motor, and a transmission between the two wipers to keep them in synch.

How To Disconnect Car Alarm
Q:This guy at work always put my windshield wipers up whenever he sees my truck when he leaves. We play pranks on each other all the time, but this is his lame thing that he does. I don‘t care that he does it, but I want a way to get him or prank him when he does it. So the next time he goes to do put them up, something will happen even if im not there. I cant think of anything and dont even know if its possible. Any ideas??
Just remove his wiper blades, it only takes a click.
Q:What does it mean when someone flips up your windshield wipers on your car? What does it mean when someone says, I‘m gonna put you on the map. ?
Flipped windshield wipers are likely caused by freak winds. The expression 'I'm gonna put you on the map' may mean the speaker is going to help the listener become famous, or it may be a threat of violence.
