Q:I can hear the motor when I turn them on but they won‘t turn. What‘s the problem ?: The motor push/pulls rods that connect to the wipers under a cover called the valance, it's the part with the louvers in it. You can reach the wipers from the firewall, there will be some sort of lock mechanism to hold the rods on, take cell phone photos, from several angles, of the wiper pin to an auto store and ask for whatever holds it on. Tell him the problem. It is very fulfilling to fix your own car if you're not a pro mechanic.

Q:The fuse seems fine. What else should I check?: be sure its the only fuse that supplies the windshield motor. Check fof current(voltage) goes thru the fuse(on both pins on the use), about 12 volts using a test light and if it does, then your windshield motor might need a good ground(negative current) to work of the motor is dead

Q:why does entire dash and windshield wipers go out and come back on.?: It's your ignition switch. The contacts that enable power to the accessories (i.e. stereo, dash lights, wipers, ect.) are worn out or dirty. You can test this by jiggling the key or turning it slightly when the dash lights are out. If they come back on, then you've found the problem. You can disassemble and clean some, but usually you just have to replace the switch.

Q:Ok so my windshield wipers are acting strange. They work fine to wipe, but when I go to turn them off, they will go all the way down then back up and stop. Like it thinks its supposed to stop in the upward position. So I either have to drive with them stuck in the up position or turn off the car while they are down and pull out the fuse so they won‘t go back up. The motor seems to be working fine. Can anyone help me? By the way it‘s a 96 Chev Cav: It sounds like your windshield wiper switch is broken. There should be a home position in the wiper switch which allows power to be applied to the wiper motor until the blades come back down to the windshield base or home position. Power is then removed allowing the blades to remain at the base of the windshield.

Q:It does it every so often.more lately than ever though. They just stop working.and in about 15-30 minutes start back.What could be causing this and what is my most cost effective way of repairing this?: wiper transmission or wiper motor broke. Did you put pressure on them? or the hinge could be so rusted and seized that it wont budge. Call local auto glass repair shop.

Q:I drive a 96 Buick Park Ave, and my windshield wiper motor recently gave out. Living in Central New York, this is um rather unideal for me.I took my car over to Midas, and they wanted to charge me 250 dollars to change out the motor. And I didn‘t pay it. I took my car, and squinted my way home through the rain. I‘ll probably go to a pick and pull and try to change them myself. But do I have to find my exact same car, or a Buick to make this happen? Or are they just a generic car part?: HAHAHAHAHHAHA!! Thats me!!!! :-) I can change the oil in my car in about 15 minutes, but I have SUCH a problem with those snap on windshield wiper blades! I don't know why it's SO frustrating! I have to get help from my little brother it's embarrassing! :-) ** how did you know of my shame!

Q:My wipers finally thawed out a couple days ago after being frozen in ice, but now both are working incorrectly. my drivers side sometimes works, but when it does it doesnt fully extend, or it overextends and flops over the side of my windshield. the passenger side only moves 2-3 inches. i have no idea what happened, i tried to use them once when they were frozen and my theory is that may have misaligned them or burned out the engine or something. they are thawed out and i cant see any obstructions and i have no problem manually moving them with my hands. this is a 2000 Grand Prix, the blades are fine. any ideas as to what might be wrong or how to fix them?: The wiper transmission is broken. A common mistake people make is they forget to turn the wipers off prior to the windshield icing. Once the key is turned on the wiper motor's internal workings either fry or brake or the the rods below the windshield brake. Remove the plastic cover below the windshield check for damaged componants. ???

Q:My windshield wipers make that chatter noise when they are turned on. I tried Rain X and followed the directions, but that just made them worse. Any ideas on how to make them stop doing this? The blades, old ones and the news ones, both make this noise. I adjusted them too, but nothing seems to work. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you: Make sure that the wiper arms are not binding/rusted at the spring pivot point. The arm should spring back fast when released. If it binds, spray WD-40 on the pivots until they are soaked. Then lift them and release them as many times as it takes to make them snap back. Don't buy cheap blades. The Bosch Icon blades cost more but mine are 4 years old and still work great. They don't freeze up with snow and the small wing/foil which is built in keep the blade on the window at high speeds.
