Q:its a 1997 f-150. there was snow on the windshield when i tried using the wipers and they didn‘t work, so i brushed the snow off and the the wiper blades went up but did not come back down. i can move them with my hand and when i press the button i can hear the motor running but the wipers don‘t move. im guessing there just off track or something. is this an easy fix? what do i need to do to fix them?
Probably you've stripped out the nylon gears in the wiper transmission -- the machine which changes rotation of the armature into reciprocating motion, to make the blades go back and forth instead of around in circles. Not a big job to change it out -- buy parts at junkyard; it's easy to check that it works before purchase.
Q:I drive a 96 Buick Park Ave, and my windshield wiper motor recently gave out. Living in Central New York, this is um rather unideal for me.I took my car over to Midas, and they wanted to charge me 250 dollars to change out the motor. And I didn‘t pay it. I took my car, and squinted my way home through the rain. I‘ll probably go to a pick and pull and try to change them myself. But do I have to find my exact same car, or a Buick to make this happen? Or are they just a generic car part?
HAHAHAHAHHAHA!! Thats me!!!! :-) I can change the oil in my car in about 15 minutes, but I have SUCH a problem with those snap on windshield wiper blades! I don't know why it's SO frustrating! I have to get help from my little brother it's embarrassing! :-) ** how did you know of my shame!
Q:I am shopping for new windshield wipers, and I don‘t know what size to get. If i get longer ones, will it increase my visibility at all?OR if you have a reccommendation for me, my car model is a 1994 Honda Civic EX. :) Thanks!
This is a common problem with cars that don't get washed regularly. First of all you need a paint razor spray your windshield with glass cleaner then go over it while its wet with a paint razor make sure its a new razor or close to it as to avoid scratching it. This will get that residue off it completely, if you don't razor it you will only smear the dirt all over it using a window cleaner so i suggest you razor it first. After you've done that wipe it off with news paper then clean your windshield as normal using newspaper again keep changing the newspaper every-time it gets dirty once you have done that your glass will be crystal clear, change your wipers then see the massive difference. if you do this correctly you will not need rainx . Rainx is just a temporary fix this is a complete fix. good luck
Q:Its barely raining. In fact, its not raining at all. Its just road mist spraying up from the car in front of you. Why do you feel the need to put your wipers on the highest setting possible, like there is a hurricane approaching? Do you realize that I want to ram your car a million times because its so dang annoying? They make different speed settings for your wiper blades. Please, I am begging you, use them accordingly. If you do this, why?? If you don't, do you find this as annoying as I do?
I have been running my wipers on full speed for the last two months. REASON - my wiper control module is on the 'frittzer' and the warranty replacement is on back-order. The wipers will only work on high speed. So if you are behind a 2006 silver Malibu Maxx cut me some freakin' slack! It's bothering me a lot more than you.
Q:My driver‘s side windshield wiper has stopped moving and I don‘t know why or what to do. I checked the fuse box, but there is only one fuse for the wipers, which means it corresponds with both and can‘t possibly be out. Also, I have no resistance pulling it up and when I do and press the wiper fluid/swiping (or whatever it‘s called) switch, it moves just a tad bit. I‘m not sure what the problem is, whether it‘s the motor or something else.
Step 1 - don't buy ANYTHING before having someone check it thoroughly. Step 2 - check the joint between the wiper arm and its shaft - it may be of the splined or smooth type, with a setscrew. Chances are the setscrew is gone or loose, which makes the shaft rotate without transferring the movement to the arm. Align, retighten, test and off you go. Step 3 - expose the mechanism and check its integrity, joints for proper connection and lack of mechanical resistance. Lubricate lightly if dry. The trouble is somewhere between steps 2 and 3. It is unlikely that you will need a new motor.
Q:They worked like a month ago, but now when I turn them on they won‘t move. If I turn them on and pull on the wipers by hand they‘ll go up and down once or twice then stop moving even in the up position. It‘s on a 1989 Chevy S-10 2WD.
wiper motor itself is getting weak and needs replaced
Q:While driving today, my windshield wipers started coming on all by themselves. I was on the road pretty much all day today, and it happened all the time. This problem is very intermittent. I didn‘t notice any type of pattern with them coming on. They came on while i was at a dead stop, while on the highway, while city driving, etc. Any ideas? The fact that it still happened when the car wasn‘t moving kinda rules out a short in the switch doesn‘t it??? Let me know what you think it might be, and how I might fix it.
Look at your wiper switch. There is a position on most between off and on marked 'int' or 'var' or delay which stands for intermittent operation. On some it has several positions which control the timing between intervals and on some there is only one position and an adjustable feature for varying the time between operations.
Q:how do you take the windshield wipers completely off of a Jeep Wrangler TJ?
The nuts that hold the wipers on the splines are under hinged metal caps. Pop these upwards to expose the nuts, take off the nuts and use a screwdriver to work the wipers off the splines. Don't force it though, pry up a little then work around the spline a little at a time so the splines don't get damaged. this is for the entire arm assembly, for just the wipers press the lever on the wiper assembly and slide wipers off the arm.
Q:I noticed I needed to replace wiper blades so I did. However the driver side still wasnt wiping. I was told it was likely the arm so I replaced that as well. But it still isnt working. Nothing seems loose, could something be bent internally to where the blade isnt pressing hard enough to move away water?Anyone know how to fix it, or where I might take to find out? I live in Pierce County, Wa. Rain season is on its way and I cant see when Im driving with this problem! Also my truck is a 2001 Chevy S10, if that makes a difference in parts or repair.
Unfortunate for you, those power lines running directly under your floor. I know that foil does an excellent job on ordinary cables for TV's . It is only a single wrap and a steel ground shield around that and does a very good job on this product You can buy foil sheet by the roll, it has two sides of aluminum foil and a center of polyproplene. The material comes in 10 foot wide and costs about 18 cents a sq foot. It is used as a reflective insulation in building construction. A source on line is RadiantGuard, 11244 Old WorksDr. RiscoTX 75035 They have a website. On steel galvanized sheets, those come in variety of sizes and can be purchased at steel supply houses and Heating and Cooling supply houses. The cost is about 40 cents a square foot for this.
Q:My 2003 ford focus front windshield wipers will not park when in normal mode. When I stop the wipers they just stop where they are position and do not complete the swipe. When they are in the intermittent mode they park, but not all the way. Is the problem my windshield wiper motor or the relay switch? They work fine other than the fact they won‘t park correctly.
Sounds like your wiper motor. I had to replace my wiper motor on my Crown Victoria last summer, I was having the same problem. When I would turn the wipers off the blades would go down to the park position and then they would move up and shut off fully opened.
