Q:I understand that a boiler and a furnace both heat your home via different methods: the boiler heats water and circulates that water or steam, and a furnace heats air and circulates the hot air. If they have the same general function, what are the pros and cons of each? If you were building a new house, which would you install and why? I'm interested in a comparison based on longevity, reliability, purchase cost, monthly cost, safety, building code eligibility, and any other factors that I'm unaware of. Thanks!
Personal preference - I like hot water heat with radiators or under floor heating best. Boilers generally provide a more even heat across the room, if you put it in the floor, the floors are always warm. Downsides to boilers is that you need separate ducting for the air conditioning and boilers take a longer time to initially heat the house, so you can't turn it down for the day and expect it to warm up quickly when you come home at night. Boilers are quiet too when installed properly.
Q:all my radiators have tvrs and i have no thermostatic control.obviously i have various controls on the boiler, but does anyone know what the best settings would be to get the optimum benefit and the cheapest use..etc the boiler is 3 years old and i have lost the instructions..thanxas with the price of gas i have been wary about putting the heating on.thanks
To run your boiler efficiently you will need a interlock which is basically a room stat which will electrically turn the boiler off when the desired set temperate has been reached. At the moment your boiler will cycle on even when your radiator valves are satisfied via a bypass which is a safety feature to allow the hot water in your system to circulate so that the boiler doesn’t overheat in the event that all your radiators reach temperature and the TRV valves close. Get a room stat fitted, Wireless one are available if the routing of a cable is difficult.
Q:A steam boiler uses a continous cycle of evaportaion and condensation. Which of the following BEST explains why evaporation and condensation play an important role in a steam boiler?A.) Substances release heat energy when they evaporate and absorb heat energy when they condenseB.) Substances absorb heat energy when they evaporate and release when they condenseC.) Substances abosrb heat energy when they freeze and release heat energy when they boil.D.) Substances release heat energy when they freeze and absorb heat energy when they boil.
B is the answer...sublimation, melting and vaporization all absorb heat to cause these phase changes...deposition, freezing, and condensation release heat to their environments to cause the phase change...in a steam boiler, heat is being made available to an outside environment and condenses to return to the boiler...as steam, it leaves the boiler...
Q:radiator boiler must be clogged/ is dripping a lot. How do I unclogg? How do I know if it is expan ves or PRV?
depends on what kind of boiler you have. Is it a combi boiler, do you have a hot water cylinder in the house?. Does it drip when the system is cold or when it is heating up. If it drips all the time even when cold and the filling loop is still connected it is most likely the PRV. Disconnect the flexible connection between the incoming cold main and the heating circuit under the boiler (filling loop). This connection sould be disconnected all the time, note the pressure on the gauge it should be about1.5bar when cold, if it is higher than this you will need to reduce the pressure by operating the presure release valve (I presume that is where it is driping just now). Turn on the boiler and watch the gauge, if it rises up to about 3bar and starts to drip. Then it is the expansion vessel, it may need toped up or less likely replaced.
Q:My boiler is not working. The timer indicates that the heating/hot water is on and the ignition flame is present but the boiler does not fire up.Does anyone know what might be wrong as I only want to call someone out when I have some idea as i don't have that much money. All answers appreciated.
If your boiler doesn't fire up at all, you probably have a bad gas valve. They are mechanical and will break down. Because you have an ignition flame does not mean that the valve is functioning properly.
Q:I tried to turn off the switch for 10 minutes, and then I turned it back on (from a plumber's suggestion). The water did not fill up the tube, so I have no heat.
something is blocking the flow of water, and needs to be corrected. This is to prevent the boiler from boiling dry and damaging the unit. You will need to open some fittings to see where the water stops.
Q:2T gas boiler burn 10 tons of steam how much natural gas
Which gas hot water boiler, including gas heating boilers and gas bath boilers, with the national "West-East" project to achieve, gas boilers gradually become the first
Q:We had a new boiler installed last year after 5 months and several attempts the installation company has finally got all rads operating (sort of). They have sent me a bill for the last visit 4 hours @ ?45 per hour. Is it reasonable to expect that all rads working, would be included as part of the initial installation?
No. They just vent the air from the system
Q:Supervision of boiler regulations
At the same time, the boiler core standard GB / T16507 "water pipe boiler", GB / T16508 "boiler shell boiler" has also entered the review, release stage.
Q:Has anyone installed a new oil boiler lately? I have an old one now which needs to be fixed or replaced. The cost of the repair is $500 so I am thinking of upgrading rather than throw good money after bad. Now, the gas company will say they are better, and the oil companies will say they are, so I asked two plumbers who install both types of boilers and they said oil is better. I live on Long Island where the cost for gas and oil may be higher than other parts of the country. What is your opinion? If you installed an oil boiler what was your experience with it. Are you satisfied? What kind of equipment did you install? Thanks in advance.
I'd go with gas if I had the option, but there's no service where I live. Propane is an option, but that means a massive tank in your yard. I'm sticking with oil for my new furnace. I've been quoted $9,500 for a system with a separate tank for hot water and abut $7,000 for one with a coil - less efficient over time but quite a savings up front. I'll probably have to have my chimney relined, which I'm told will be another $1,500 or so. So I'm looking at $10K give or take. The unit in there now is 20 years old and with annual maintenance and a service contract from our oil co., it hasn't caused too many hassles.
