- Q:What kind of chair legs should I be using on my new oak wood floor to keep from damaging the finish? Also, how many people do you know that have backed out of their garage w/o using the door opener remote control?
- Plastic tips won't save damage to your flooring..I suggest you use the sticky felt things you can buy anywhere, but they have to be replaced every once in a while...also, you have to watch if there is a lot of scratchy dirt around your table, then it can get under the felt pads and mark the floor. I have high end hardwood flooring throughout my home...I have felt pads under everything....and they work really well, but can be a pain sometimes because I have cats and a dog. Just vacuum your floors often and enjoy the wood. Oh, and I know of no one who has back out of their garage without openning the door...that is what mirrors and eyes are for..looking...do not get into a car with that person!!!!
- Q:well heres the story. My boyfriend and i are moving into an apartment together soon and his grandfather decided he was going to make us some chairs for our balcony. And though i am extremely greatful that he took the time to make them for us and that it was very nice of him, the chairs are bad. they are pretty much 2 pieces of wood and 4 sticks for legs. - Q:I am purchasing chair covers for my reception. My issue is to buy them only for head table and reserved tables or cover every chair. The chairs the hall have are plastic and better then metal, but I am unsure if I want to pay for all the chairs to be covered. - Q:I have a chair with a broken back, it can be detached from the rest of the chair and has a metal piece that goes into the padded/cloth part of the back.
- Chairs can be a bear to fix. Depending on what piece broke, it usually indicates metal fatigue from low quality steel used at high stress points (an engineering short-sight). On those kinds of chairs I just take off the broken pieces (arms, if any) and use the bottom as a roll around stool, cause fixing them only redistributes the stress load to another weak spot. They can be handy in the shop for working on the car (waxing the lower half and polishing the mags, etc.)
- Q:The front leg of a metal, stackable chair collapsed under me when I sat on it. What are the metal tolerances which might or could have been lacking which made the chair leg so weak?
- It is unlikely that the chair collapsed solely based on your weight. Chairs are designed to take compressive forces. They are not designed to be tilted where compressive forces would favour a single leg of the chair. My suspicion is that this chair was subjected to this improper usage either while you were using it or before you were using it. In any case, the chair would have to have been damaged or improperly used in order for it to collapse. The other possibility is that your weight exceeded the maximum allowable load rating of the chair.

- Q:I am re-doing my dining room chairs and would like to know if 5lb. density 2.5 in. memory foam would be a good choice or should I just go with medium firm 2.5 in. regular foam. I am going to wrap the foam in batting before I put the fabric on the chairs. Also would 2.5 inches be thick enouph or should I do 3 inches? Please give details as to which foam would be better and why.
- I would stay away from memory foam for dining chairs. Folks move around, get up, sit down too often for there to be any benefit to having memory foam on a chair, and I can see where it would be a major PITA (literally!) to not be able to turn in my chair comfortably or to have to REsit myself in the molded-to-my-bottom cushion after getting up to get more rolls, or whatever. I'd use regular medium density foam and I wouldn't use more than a 2 slab of it... especially if you're going to wrap the foam w/ batting before applying fabric. If the cushion is too high/bulky you risk folks having to dangle their legs off the edge of the chair (think of Lily Tomlin's Edith Ann sitting in the big chair), or having an uncomfortable pressure point at the back of their thighs that could cause legs to go numb. - First off, you will have to know how much she spent. so she had 1500, and the total price was 249 under her budget (1500-249). This equals $1,251 Now you have to make it equal $1,251 The table was 3 times as much as the chair, so let c be the cost of thechair and 3c be the cost of the table table. (because the table was 3 times more expensive) You now have something that looks like this c + 3c = 1251 Combine like terms 4c = 1251 Divide 4c/4 = 1251/4 this gives you 312.75 = c, this is the cost of the chair now that you have the cost of the chair, you can know how much the table costs, because in relation to the chair, the table cost three times more. so... 312.75 x 3 = 938.25 The table cost 938.25
