- Q: In the past 9 months, Ive went through 6 or 7 gallons of antifreeze, I was told this was not normal. Ive had my coolant tank flushed 4 times this year, only to be told thats not normal and one lasts a few years. Now that its colder outside my car takes a while to run hot of course, but during the summer it ran hot in about 15 minutes tops. I got a brand new coolant tank before I got another flush because I did have a leak, but that did not combat the problem. I had my radiator looked at and I was told thats fine. So im thinking either a cracked head gasket or a bad water pump...help please. im getting tired of putting money into this car only for the same stuff to keep happening.

- Q: Whats the difference between a faulty water pump and head gasket? The coolant reservoir has a quot;bubblingeffect when the car is running. I just changed the radiator and filled it. Most of whats in the radiator is water honestly. The car sounds a little rough and sputtery like a head gasket. The spark plugs are dry and I took the cover off and nothing looked watery or moisturous. I also had to change the head and head gasket a month ago. The head gasket didn't have any damage to it so I assumed the head was bad. I used a new head gasket also. Anything else I can check? The car is a 91 corolla.
- sounds like head gasket and head. but first run the engine squeeze the big water hose from pump to radiator if you can feel pressure then pump should be ok as long as no noise from it. then i would bleed the cooling system to get any air out. your car will sound rough if air is in the water system. but if all is ok with that then it looks like the gasket/head and you will have to get head skim ed this way you can make sure timing is spot on and is not out. but also look for where air can get in water system thermostat house ect
- Q: i already removed all bolts including the fan except for the last bolt on the water pump which the serpentine belt rides on the bolt backs into that so i am trying to find out how to get the bolt from the serpentine belt pulley off do i have to pull the serpentine pully off and if so how there is no bolt or allen holding the serpentine pully onim just trying to replace the water pump
- more than likely, the fan holds the pulley on. the pulley probably has corroded on to the pump. lightly tap on it with a hammer and should pop off. i have seen this alot on that style of pulley set up.
