- Q: Should the student press be afforded the same rights as the regular press?
- I was a Mass Comm major, and worked on Student Radio and all that jazz. To your question.....ummmm. no Freedom of the Press Lies with the person who owns the press. Example that college. As a student press you are subject to school ruling and what they feel is appropriate. So if I want to start a paper and say something bad, i would start my own paper , so I could do this. This is what I have been taught, not that I completely believe it.
- Q: i am going to get a bench press soon. but until then is doing press ups give the same kind of effect???
- If you could have someone place a weight (like, a few 24 packs of beer, cans unopened, or a couple of big round 25lb weights) on your back while you do press-ups, then you would get more of a benefit. The thing with bench press is not only more weight, but also that with bench press, gravity is working against you because you're on your back pressing the weight up, away from you. With press-ups, gravity is working for you on the way down ... you see what I mean? If you want the same benefit, you have to have lots more weight on your back, and resist A LOT on the way down, just like you would with a bench press. :D Best of luck, and never do bench press without a spotter !!
- Q: I think I might be using too fine of grounds they keep getting into my cup. What are some good brands of coffee to use with a French press?
- 1) Buy a decent press. Bodum has a range of price points and all of them work about the same. I have 2 medium-size presses that make about 2 large mugs worth of coffee at a time. 2) Buy whole beans, ideally freshly roasted from a local roaster, and grind them immediately prior to brewing. Keep your beans stored in an airtight container out of the light (e.g. in a cupboard), and only buy what you can reasonably use within two or three weeks. 3) Use a burr grinder to make a medium-coarse grind. I use a Hario manual grinder. They take some time, but at only $25-30 on Amazon, they're the best value in terms of quality and end result versus price paid for the grinder. Regardless of how coarsely you grind your coffee, odds are there will be some small particles that the filter doesn't catch. That is, in my experience, normal. Just don't drink the last sip or two of coffee.

- I have had success by using wax paper. Put the rose between two sheets of wax paper and either put it in a press or under several heavy books.
- Q: I was wondering, does the french press require a larger amount of ground coffee to make the same amount of cups a drip brewer could make? - It actually takes less ground coffee to make it in a French Press than in a drip coffeemaker, because you get more out of less--the French press usually holds less water, but you use less ground coffee--and it tastes just as strong as drip coffee (and can be made stronger) by steeping, rather than by using more ground coffee. The longer you steep it, the stronger it gets--and more flavorful. For a 2-cup French press you can use about 3 scoops (2 tbsp coffee measures) of coffee--in a drip maker you would use 4-5 for the same amount of water.

- There's a few things that resctrict the freedom of the press already, including those things you're talking about. (those things are censors concerning gore and porn, and the government for national security concerns) Things I would love to see, however, would be things like the press being forced to respect a private individual's life if they so desire to be left alone. Movie stars and other celebs should not be hounded and chased everywhere they go by the media unless they've given permission for that day and if anyone gets too freaking pushy they should have the right to say that's enough - I want that guy gone. or be able to say that's enough, you're all gone. and have their wishes enforced by the law. I do not want another Princess Di style accident happening - it sucks that no one has these rights as a private individual.
- Q: For my product design I have decided to make a skateboard but this means I'm going to need to build a skateboard press to make the deck . I was just wondering ow long you think that this whole thing will take because I have got about 4-3 months on it I already know my plan of action and how I shall make it but if you know any easier way to make the press that would be less time consuming that would be very helpful ! :) so if you could just give me a rough estimate of how long you think it will take to make thank you
- I'm assuming your deck is over 2 feet long but less than 3? The cheap presses they sell at Harbor Freight tools (12 and 20 tons respectively) would supply the necessary pressure, but would focus all the force near the center area, requiring dies that would transmit that pressure outward. Perhaps a better way would be to stand 2 of these presses next to each other about 16 to 20 inches apart and lay the die crosswise between the two tables, actuating both hydraulic jacks at the same time or alternating strokes to get even pressure. Making the dies might prove to be the tougher task.
