Q:Newbie tiling question?
Get the proper trowels for the size of tile your doing. Get the proper drill and paddle to mix the thin set Mix the grout by hand or you ll incorporate air into the grout , weakening it.. They don t always show the proper way to lay out tile. Speed squares come in handy, Use a fine tipped marker, pencil marks will come off most tile doing it through a wet saw. Rent a wet saw or if you plan on tiling again, save money in the long run and buy a medium grade saw. With a stand if possible. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL Btw I ll edit my post if I come up with some other hints, I m sure there are.
Q:whoe makes the tile for empier today?
Hard and almost impossible to say. Places like that will buy pallet loads of sometimes discontinued tiles , factory over runs and slower sellers. Some times its factory 2nds or ( builders grades) . Any brand name they might buy is often private labeled just for them . Sometimes looking at the tile I can tell or sometimes the box style can give it away . There are on occasion markings or initials on tile backing that will give away the tile manufacturer. If you get or have a pc and want to try and find out, send me a pict ,front and back, I might be able to tell from that. E mail me thru my avatar and I ll send you my regular e mail GL
Q:Slate tile without grout?
No don t even try. First all tile and especially stones need the grout. Grout improves the strength of set tiles. Stones and again especially slate is not perfectly uniform and having grout allows them to look aligned. Dirt and debris ( and especially ashes) will get in those thin joints and be dirty and a PIA to clean and keep clean. Being on a hearth, w/o grout would be a fire hazard but at least you have a gas insert where this wouldn t be a factor. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:No of tiles required ...need urgent help?
You have 160 sq. feet of area. Each tile is 4 square feet. You need 40 tiles. Now the cost will vary greatly as to what you want. At least $1 per square foot and upward.
Q:Tile Calculation Help!!?
The contents of the boxes vary between manufactures. You need to work out how many square feet or square metres of tiles you need and add a bit on for wastage then check the boxes as they normally state how much coverage on box will give. P.S. don't forget the adhesive.
Q:can ceramic wall tiles be laid from the ceiling down?
Tile adhesive on wall NOT thin set!
Q:How to re tile my kitchen floor?
yes, okorder.com
Q:What are the dimensions of the tile?
There are many common types of tile are proportional to the 300X300 600X600 800X800 and 1000X1000. Ceramic tile size 300X300 300X450 300X600 there are 100X100. Ask more, why should we know the size of the problem? The Generally this will not be a problem. There are any indoor and outdoor space decoration problems continue to ask
Q:Ceramic tile floor grout is cracking?
I don't know if you watch HGTV, but there is a Holmes on Homes episode that covers this very situation. In that episode they ended up ripping up the entire floor sub-floor, started again. The tile guys laid down a concrete board that is designed for that purpose, but they laid it over the old linoleum floor when that floor needed to be ripped up 1st a new sub-floor laid down. The cracking is probably caused by the tiles shifting in some way. Either the subfloor is inadequate, or the adhesion of the tiles to the subfloor is inadequate. As you walk over the floor the tiles move, the grout cracks. You may have a fight on your hands. Most contractors don't like to do their work all over again, but I suspect that is what needs to be done here. Cracking in a ceramic floor that is only one week old suggests to me that you had the great misfortune to hire somebody who really doesn't know about laying ceramic floors. It would probably be more than reasonable to ask them to do the job over, but I don't know if that would be advisable if you want to end up with a ceramic floor free of cracks. If they didn't know how to install your floor in the 1st place, then I wouldn't expect then to have studied up on the right way to do it after only one week. If it were me, I'd ask them to come in and remove the tiles and give me a full refund so that I can go find someone who knows what he is doing. Good Luck!
Q:Installing mesh mounted glass tiles?
I ve done hundreds and there is no right or wrong. I like to leave the tile , and it don t matter what type of tile, right down to the counter top. Then the grout is very thin and shows less when it does crack. And it will crack from temp and humidity changes effecting walls, counter tp etc. Then you caulk with a thin bead of caulk. Caulk and grout , because they are 2 different substances never perfectly match. Only white hides the best on white grout. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
