- Start your whole tile by the wall where the tiles will show when you enter the bathroom. Why make cut all around the room? Its takes longer and you will see more tile cuts. You want to cut tiles where the vanity, toilet, closet will be so they don't show as much. Dry lay some tiles against the wall that will show after everything is installed and make a chalk line against that wall. Spread your thinset mortar evenly and install three floor tiles at a time. Before you continue, install three more in row 2 to make sure the tiles look go to the fit. Then continue the first row. See link below for further details.

- Are you talking about vinyl tile? If so, the old tile is probably discolored from age, and ware. There's nothing you can do about that, but you can take another old tile from a place that's not noticeable, like under a piece of furniture, and put it where you put the new one, then put the new one in the place where you removed the old one from, and it's not to noticeable. If you're talking about ceramic or clay tile, there may be a way to refinish the old ones to make them look new, but you'd have to check with a tile place to find out.

- Definitely get tile. My brother and his wife got a harwood floor in their kitchen. My dad and I tried warning them against it. Now they are all the time worrying about putting dents in the floor if they drop something or ruining the look by accidentally dropping and leaving an ice cube on the floor. If you have kids that only increases the chances of stuff like that happening. Tile is much more durable. If you don't like the feel of cold tile on your feet, then add a heater wire under the tile. You can set the floor temperature to almost any temperature you prefer. You only have to seal the tile about once every 3-5 years. With a hardwood floor you'd have to wax or seriously clean it that often anyway. With tile, you also don't have to really worry about stains unless you use a light grout and don't seal it well. Grout comes in a wide variety of colors, so you can color coordinate the grout however you please. An tile isn't that hard to clean with a mop. My brother is big into farming and very meticulous about everything. It'll be funny to watch when his kids want to start playing with Ertl tractors on the hardwood floor.
- Q: The shiny surface ceramic tile is set unto a cement slab - it has been there 15 years or more with no cracks. Do I need to rough up the surface before I set the tile- if so how? - To go over tile I ve used both Flex Bond and VesaBond thinset made by Custom Building products, Both are usually sold at Home Depot.. One suggestion when tiling over tile, allow a few extra days drying time before any foot traffic on the new tile . Moisture has no where to go when doing this and extra drying time IS required. Do NOT add a latex additive if you use a polymer type thin set, only a latexed based thin set.. No sanding is generally needed, just a clean , oil and grease free tile. - First of all, your calculation is wrong. You have 165 Sq Ft' Second of all 18(18) does not = 18 The correct answer is 18(18)=324Sq.inches.=2.7 2.7 div.165=61. You will need approx.65 tiles.

- If the tiles in the house is 8/10 years older or more and you don t know what they are, your fighting a losing battle. Tile, like a lot of flooring, changes style every 8/10 years.
