- Q:I am wondering which tile will be easier to clean, polished or non polished? My hub and I are remodeling the bathroom and we are in the stage of deciding of tiles for the shower wall and bathroom floor.
- Polished tile is easier to clean, but does show scuff marks more. Polished tile also shows soap film more. Unpolished tile is currently more in style, but styles change so fast that polished tile could be back in vogue within 10 years. Personally, I prefer polished tile in a bathroom, myself. The grout is a pain in the anatomy to keep clean, regardless...so, it hardly matters which tile cleans easier. Just go for whichever tile you like best. -

- Q:How would one grout mosaic tiles on standing mirror?
- Grout application on a mirror is exactly the same process as grouting a tile floor, back-splash, counter top, or table. Since the mirror is standing, I'd be sure that the mirror won't topple over when applying the grout because it has to be floated into the crevices between the tiles / tile pieces. If possible I'd suggest laying the mirror flat, either on the floor or on a sturdy worktable A grout float is basically a block shaped pushing tool used to force the grout between the tiles. Hold the float at an angle against the tiled surface and use a firm sweeping motion across the tile to push/force the grout into all the nooks, crannies, cracks and openings between the tiles. You'll have to work fairly quickly because grout becomes hard to work once it starts drying out. Work in a diagonal pattern and go back over any low or missed areas. Allow the grout to sit for 20-30 minutes. You'll know the grout is starting to cure when there is a light haze on the tile surface. Using a sponge and a bucket of clean water lightly buff the tile to remove the haze. This step may have to be repeated once or twice to be sure that all of the excess grout has been removed from the tile surface. If you want to seal the grout and tile, there are a number of sealant products available but you'll need to wait 3 or 4 days before applying in order to allow the grout to cure properly.
- Q:Im applying going for a pre apprenticeship next month and I‘m not sure which one to choose from, electrician or wall and floor tiling? I think electrician pays more but you need to be a bit smarter the I am and I‘m afraid I won‘t do well. Or I could just to.. You know tiling not that hard. I‘m from Western Australia if that helps knowing the best jobs for my state. Thank you :)
- Tiling is very hard on your knees and back. I would go for the electrician job. In America heat and air conditioning pays the best by far. Good luck! Let us know what you decide.
- Q:Hi, I`m planning a bathroom remodel soon, and I want to use the same floor tiles as before - they are beautiful! But I just can`t find them anywhere (we bought this house recently and the previous owner did the remodel, and we can`t get hold of him any more). If anyone recognizes them, I`d be really grateful if you could point me in the direction of where to find them. Thank you SO much!Further info: the tiles are a fraction under 4 square and are a kind of gray-based quartz or granite (not sure of the difference, sorry!) with flecks of aquamarine and blue that give it an overall pale blue hue. They sit between plain white tiles with the corners shaped to accept the smaller blue squares.I`ve looked in Lowes, Home Depot, Amazon and online but so far no luck :( !
- You will have to contact a company and request a catalog of their tiles that they manufacture. After a run of tiles are made the next run will not be the exact same to match. It's very possible that no manufacturing tile company is still making the tile. With the wear and glaze that the tile has it would be impossible to get a match. I suggest that you shop for tiles that will enhance and blend with what you have and you may even use hard wood and tile aquamarine color that will pull the color hue from your present tile. - Which tile is it? porcelain or ceramic?? they are 110% different Porcelain tile you need to get a VERY high quality diamond/tunstencarbide drill bit/ holesaw. if it a small hole you need to drill then a simple glass bit will work, but use plenty of water For ceramic tile a a big hardware store sell an inexpensive holesaw for the larger holes and a glass bit will work fine on smaller holes
- Q:I got thisAmerican Florim tile about a year ago and can‘t remember if was Terra cotta tile. Does it look like it to you? If so it is 320 square ft of Terra cotta 18 tile. 5 or so tiles are broken on the corners.
- Chances are good that the tile was purchased locally by either the tile installer or the builder. If I were in your shoes, I would take the pictures to your local flooring businesses and let them identify it for you. Chances are good that you can still get the same tile in the same shade since it is only a year old. To save some time, call around to make sure that the flooring businesses in your area carry ceramic tile before you spend your hard earned gas money visiting them. Good luck with your project.
- Q:I have ten 4x4 ceramic tile that I cannot find new. What is an easy way to clean the backs off so I can re-use them?
- With Acid easily available in the market. And I am it is HCL. Thats the only way to bring the original shine of ceramic tile.
- Q:We live in Phoenix and have a tile roof; most likely concrete tile. One of the tile on the lower level roof has somehow gone missing and I am trying to find one to replace it with. I don‘t think HD and Lowes sell roof tiles and I have tried to look up in yellow pages and am only finding roofing contractors. Where do you think I can just go and buy one tile. I won‘t need an installer as I can do it myself as it is on the lower level roof that I can access with a small ladder. Also tile is the one at the bottom so I won‘t need to climb up on the roof either :) Only logical suggestions are appreciated.
- you need to call a roofing supplier/ wholesale house. you wont get 1 tile, youll have to buy a stack, and its not expensive, if they have them in stock and if they will sell 1 bundle. you can also call your local contractors and ask them, give your tile style and color, like s or w or pots and pans, etc. its probably time to have some maintenance done to your roof anyway. i am a roofer. what they dont tell you when they sell you a lifetime product like slate or tile, is it still needs maintenance or it is going to leak. also dont know if you know or not, but never try to walk that tile, you dont know how, and you will leave a trail of broken tiles behind you.
