There are several schedules. The most common are 40, 80, and 160. Schedule 40 is the most common for typical cold water plumbing. Schedules 80 and 160 are usually used for drain pipes. There is also CPVC, which is used for hot cold plumbing.

The 20 extra heavy pipe should be okay for 1440 psi but the Y60 fittings and Y65 Flange designations are not sufficient to say if they are adequate since those are material grades and not indicative of pressure rating without extra information. A coupling is used to joint these together. Normally a union would be used to make a water tight fit but a sloppy loose connection with a coupling can be done as only a thread or two will be engaged on one connection. (A connection none the less) The key here is that the coupling it over threaded on to one nipple end. The other nipple is placed into the other end of the coupling. This nipple has also been over tightened into its elbow. First back off the overtightened nipple from the elbow. As you unthread from the elbow you will be threading into the coupling. Then switch to the coupling and repeat the process. Unthread the coupling from one nipple and it will tighten on to the other.

The main hydraulic joints are mainly low carbon steel. By forging blank and machining, the difference between cast iron and carbon steel joint is that the pressure is different.

No, under pressurization will not hurt the tubing at all. Overpressuration and water hammer ( the rattling you hear when you close the valve too fast ) will harm it, the tubing comes in several wall thicknesses, but the tubing that is used as a standard will sustain a pressure of over 600 PSI, the weakness is in how well the joints were assembled by the plumber that did the piping, and the age of the material, everything that will rust or oxidize will weaken over time. Not to worry the copper will outlast the building.
