Product description

It is a form of photoelectric cell, defined as a device whose electrical characteristics, such as current, voltage, or resistance, vary when exposed to light. Solar cells are the building blocks of photovoltaic modules, otherwise known as solar panels.

Solar cells are described as being photovoltaic irrespective of whether the source is sunlight or an artificial light. They are used as a photodetector (for example infrared detectors), detecting light or other electromagnetic radiation near the visible range, or measuring light intensity.

A photovoltaic (in short PV) module is a packaged, connected assembly of typically 6×10 solar cells. Solar Photovoltaic panels constitute the solar array of a photovoltaic system that generates and supplies solar electricity in commercial and residential applications. Each module is rated by its DC output power under standard test conditions, and typically ranges from 100 to 365 watts. The efficiency of a module determines the area of a module given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 watt module will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 watt module. There are a few solar panels available that are exceeding 19% efficiency. A single solar module can produce only a limited amount of power; most installations contain multiple modules. A photovoltaic system typically includes a panel or an array of solar modules, a solar inverter, and sometimes a battery and/or solar tracker and interconnection wiring.

Q: Can solar panels be installed on residential complexes or apartment buildings?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on residential complexes or apartment buildings. In fact, they are increasingly being installed on such structures to harness clean and renewable energy for multiple households. The installation process typically involves placing the panels on rooftops or in open spaces within the complex, allowing residents to benefit from reduced electricity costs and a more sustainable living environment.
Q: I'm trying to charge rechargeable AA batteries with a solar panel. What guage wire should I use to connect the panel to the batteries? Should I use a diode to keep the batteries from overpowering the circuit? If so, what size? My panel is 4.8V 50mA.
You not only need a diode, but a circuit that opens the circuit if the voltage falls below a certain level. The diode is not the problem, but the batteries powering the solar panel when the voltage falls to low.
Q: I want to buy a solar panel to charge deep cycle batteries and charge electronics off the DCB. I don't know how to wire everything up though or what materials ill need. Inverter? Gauge of the wire? Ampmeter?
It does not matter if you father is a electrician he must be a fully qualified solar installer or you will not receive any money from the government. You need more than just solar panels you need regulators, grid interaction devices and array controller. 5KW installation is large and will cost around $5000 for the panels then around 5000 for controllers and equipment needed and then there are the basic materials such as rails, junctions, cables etc Total cost is approx $5,000
Q: I want to get solar panels but not spend 20,000!! I found out that you can get a panel to run only your AC unit, I also found something that will run my pool pump! Anyone own either of these? How did you do? Where did you go? How much was it, and was it hard to install?
Most major cities have construction signs and other public things powered by solar panels. We have parking meter stands, USGS meters, street lights, etc. when these lose efficiency, they need to be replaced. They still work at about 60 percent efficiency. Learn who services these items and ask how to get them at a reduced rate or even for free. Be personable and nice and go to the source physically, not via e-mail. You can get a solar panel to run just about anything
Q: How do solar panels affect the resale value of a home?
Solar panels can have a positive impact on the resale value of a home. Studies have shown that properties with solar panels tend to sell faster and at a higher price compared to homes without them. Potential buyers view solar panels as a valuable and eco-friendly feature, leading to increased buyer interest and willingness to pay a premium for a home equipped with solar power.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on south-facing windows?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on south-facing windows, as long as there is enough sunlight exposure throughout the day. South-facing windows tend to receive the most sunlight, making them a suitable location for solar panel installation. However, it is important to consider any potential obstructions or shading that may affect the panel's efficiency.
Q: They have been around long enough to be cheaper. Unless they are made out of a natural material that is rare and hard to find, there is no reason why they should be so expensive. On another note, I think that all low power devices like cell phones and even laptops should have solar panels. Even if it is not enough to fully power the device for a long period of time, it will provide some electricity savings and with millions of people saving a little power adds up.
Because most solar cells are made from silicon crystals that is grown very slowly. Growing silicon crystals from pure silicon is an extremely slow and expensive process.
Q: Can solar panels be used in cloudy regions?
Yes, solar panels can still be used in cloudy regions. While they work most efficiently under direct sunlight, they can still generate electricity even on cloudy days.
Q: Hey was looking at a 5 watt 2 volt solar panel and was wondering if it'd be enough to power a regular light bulb. Also need to power a 5volt 6.5 amp pump for at most a minute at a time. So basically if I had this panel would I be able to plug a lamp into it and have it light for 5+ hours at a time with the possibility of running the pump? If not what size panel would I need?
The specifications you give say the solar panel produces 5 watts at 2 volts (DC) so that isn't enough voltage to power an ordinary (20-volt) light bulb. You could get 0 of these panels and connect them in series so they put out a total of 20 volts and the total power available would be 50 watts. The panels would light the bulb that way, provided the bulb isn't over 50 watts and you can afford the panels. A panel does provide enough power for a 2-volt car light bulb less than 5 watts. However, the maximum current you can get from these panels is .25 amperes (5 watts divided by 2 volts = .25 A.) This isn't enough power to run your pump which takes 6.5 amperes - at 20 volts, that would be 780 watts. Another thing to check is the pump motor; many electric motors are designed to run on AC only and will be damaged if you try to run DC through them. Remember solar panels produce DC so the raw output from a panel will not work on an AC motor.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on mobile homes?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on mobile homes. In fact, mobile homes can be great candidates for solar panel installations due to their smaller size and affordability. Additionally, solar panels can help mobile homeowners save on electricity bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
