- Q: that holds two sinks, is open at the bottom so stools can be stored there and pulled out, and if possible has a bar at the bottom to hold towels on. I'm designed a children's bathroom.

- Most bath room vanities are sized such at the granite counter top doesn't need any extra support unless it is cantilevered. We just had granite counter tops added to our master bath and the 3/4' plywood sides were more than adequate to support the granite. Each vanity was 40' wide and 23' deep with supports for the granite on all four sides. We had undermount sinks installed at the same time. It is best to have the supplier of the granite responsible for that work. They need to get the cutout correct and the placement of the inserts for the supporting screws. That is assuming they are going to use the inserts rather than just epoxy to attach the sink to the counter top. We have a piece of granite on our kitchen island with an 18' cantilevered section on each end. In this case there is a rectangular support for the whole piece of granite made from 1' square steel tubing. This assures that the ends will not break off.

- Is this for a Master Bath? I think before you purchase anything you should think about the space you have to work with. You could try for a similar look as the tradewindimport piece by crafting a vanity out of an inexpensive but strong wood and wrap the wood in mirror and set sink on top. I would search in your area for outlets that have discounted plumbing fixtures. As far as a mirror goes, I would look at art and frame shops, hobby stores, even tuesday morning, tj maxx, marshall's... sometimes you can find really good deals. May be fun to use a round mirror above a sharp contemporary vanity. Hope this helps! I have a degree in Interior Design and practiced 16 years before becoming a busy mom.
- Q: I am trying to remove a 'generic' type of dual sink vanity installed when the home was built. I see no screws securing it to the wall. Could it just be sitting there, caulked in place? I was hoping to keep it intact to use as a workbench, but if I have to start breaking it up, that's okay too :)
- most vanities are held in place by the weight of the sink with caulking around the outside of the vanties.it depends on who put it in but look at the wall behing the vanity there could be screws holding it in place.if you start to tear it out you may tear out the drywall too.take care trying to get it out because if there are nails or screws holding it against the wall you may be replacing drywall too.also make sure you disconnect all plumbing before you take it out.

- Twenty two years ago, before it was even popular like it is today, I used an antique piece of furniture, cut a hole in the top, dropped in a scalloped porcelain sink , and transformed it into a working sink/vanity in my downstairs bathroom. And, the oak furniture piece cost only $165.00. Yes, I had to retrofit the drawers so they could still be used, but the end result is well worth my efforts. The style of the furniture is curved in front with a harp on the back for hanging towels, like an old fashioned wash sink to match my victorian bath. But you can use any other style to fit your decor. I refinished the vanity with Minwax Antique Oil Rub. The oil absorbs into the wood and is waterproof. You may be tempted to finish the wood with polyurethane and although it is waterproof, it will eventually end up getting scratched and begin to lift which will result in more maintenance that you may want to dedicate to the vanity. Whereas the oil soaks into the wood, not coating the surface like the poly. And the finish is hand rubbed, leaving a wonderful patina look to the wood. May I suggest that you skip the bathroom showrooms and go directly to the flea markets, consignment shops, antique shops and the like? You may be surprised what you can find if you have the time to shop, because if you have more time than money, you are sure to find something that will work for your application. This may not be the answer you were looking for, however, please at least consider the possibilities.
