Q: I started growing herbs indoors a few weeks ago. They are in seed starter soil that I recently mixed with some good topsoil. I water them daily and have them in a sunny window. Problem is, that they seemed to have a hard time surviving and I‘m trying to troubleshoot to why.I have chives and they were growing alright, and i read that I should trim them down when they get a bit unruly, so I did and soon after they started struggling. It‘s still alive, but looking flimsy and I have strands that are dying on me. It‘s looking a little weaker everyday. I‘m also having this issue with dill. Thanks to anyone who can help!
First, when growing plants, any plants, in pots, do not use topsoil at all. Always use a potting mix or the seed starting soil only. It's too heavy, topsoil will retain too much water and waterlog your roots, especially if you are watering on a schedule and not when the soil is dry down about an inch. Let them dry out a bit between waterings. Check the soil before you water to see that the plants actually need it. When you do water, water thoroughly so the water runs out the bottom. Discard any water that the pots may be sitting in, you don't want them sitting in water. If you can, repot, carefully, with potting soil or add sand, vermiculite or perlite to the pots to lighten it and help deal with the overwatering.
Q: My leo laid eggs in the water dish. 3 days later i read that it would kill them and filled the dish with vermiculite. did the eggs die before i filled it with vermiculite, or do they still have a chance?
uh-oh! you need an incubator, quick. here's what to do. get a small fish aquarium, fill it less than an inch on all sides with perlite (found in home depot). after that, get a heating pad or a very hot light and a thermometer. make sure it is at LEAST 80 degrees or 79 degrees Fahrenheit. if you don't have everything, just run to the store quick and buy everything. get a tuberware container and fill it 2/3 of the way with perlite. weigh it on a gram scale, divide number by .8, and then add the two numbers together. spray with water until it weighs that number. put the tubberware in the aquarium and turn on the light and adjust. then go out and buy a better heating pad and use that for the rest of the time, which is about 6-12 weeks. hope it helped! good luck can you answer my question? it is 'is this leopard gecko egg alright'. ps. you can use vermiculite instead of perlite p.p.s. you should candle them, which is carefully put them on a flashlight (oh also you should mark the eggs on the top so you don't turn them over) and if they are yellowy rosy color with a tiny embryo on them they are healthy. if they are green or grey they are duds.
Q: i have a small container to use to incubate bearded dragon eggs but i‘m not to sure if potting soil is the right thing to use
I would not use potting soil. I have incubated and hatched several species of reptiles. I use vermiculite. I get it from Orchard Supply, but any garden supply store should have it, and its cheap. Get it moist, but not wet enough to squeeze water out of it. You can either use a vented container, and mist the eggs and vermiculite every so often as needed, or use an airtight container, and open it every 2-3 days for a few seconds to exchange air. I have done both ways, but prefer the second, as I have been able to incubate eggs for 2 months without adding moisture (other than the original moisture I added), and they hatched fine. I put the eggs on the vermiculite, about halfway buried. Remeber not to rotate the eggs from the position they were laid.
Q: only one question really:can you cover the beardie eggs with vermiculite untill they start to hatch?
If you can get your hands on a polysterine box thats you pretty much sorted. You make a cut near the top so the wire for the heat mat can go in with the lid still on properly, and then put little tubs in ( chinese food boxes or the ones you get crickets on) put the vermiculite in and make sure it stays moist. have fun :)
Q: What is a a soilless potting mix ?
Differing types of soilless potting mixes can be bought from garden centres or nurseriesyou will find there is a variety to choose from. Coir fibre, peat, perlite and vermiculite make up the bulk.
Q: I have a rather large bag of perlite. I plan on using it as an incubation medium once the eggs come but could I also use it in my female‘s laying box? Is there anything in it that might harm her?
i agree vermiculite or sphagnum moss is the best. Perlite has been used without problem but some say that in some cases it may be toxic to the eggs so i'd stick to vermiculite and don't use paper towels geckos prefer to bury there eggs and paper towel also drys to fast
Q: Hi. My sulcata just lay 20 eggs. I have a chick incubator that was given to me. What are the procedure that is needed to incubate my sulcata eggs? I'm been doing some research online some say to incubate them in a closed container, and some say to incubate them in an open container? Can Yahoo Answer provide me with a definite answer as to how to incubate the eggs? Also a exact detail as to what are the procedure and what stuff to look for doing incubation. Do I need to spray mist water on the eggs? Thanks.

Q: Do you have to freeze the seeds before you plant them? What kind of soil do they need? How much watering do they need? How long until they sprout? What then? Thanks for answering
i exploit Nioxin - ask your hairdreser approximately it thats how i got here across it. interior the month I definitely have used it my hair has grown one million.5 inches and it additionally will thicken your hair. you will hit upon simliar products at elegance furnish shops,( ie - Tree Tea Oil is a powerful one additionally). wish this facilitates
Q: Are expanded perlite and expanded vermiculite the same substance? What's the difference between them? What's the matter?
From the first color: perlite is white, similar to the bubble, very light. Vermiculite yellow, relatively small particles, a bit like a worm. These are used in the tunnel fire retardant coating inside, is the raw material of this kind of product, play the role of thermal insulation, also used in vegetable greenhouses inside
