Q:I was pricing vacuum cleaners and some say they have 12 volt motors and some 6 amps. Which is the better buy?: I knew the science, but doubted my knowledge, which was probably the marketers' goal. Searching for a stick or hand-vac, and some say volts, some say amps, none say both, and the rare one lists watts or any kind of measure of suction. They don't *want* us to be able to do the math.

Q:i have a canister vacuum cleaner that has been working on and off. When it works, it works well, but sometimes when you try to turn it on it won't. But then when you try again later, it works. And it hasn't worked when it wasn't even used shortly before so it can't be overheated. The vacuum is at least a decade old. I'm suspecting that the motor i nearing the end of its life..but my dad refuses acknowledge the possibility of that and citing that it just needs to be cleaned. I know when the vacuum needs to be cleaned considering that I'm like the only one who uses it!: Alyssa, 10 years is a decent amount of time with a vacuum. However, I would recommend taking it into Sears (or just call them to save you a trip) and find out what they can do for you. Kenmore is sold exclusively by Sears, and sometimes they are great about fixing/replacing things like this. That's what I would do first. If they can't do anything for you (or if it costs you more than $40 to replace the motor) then it's probably time for a new vacuum. Just be careful - the vacuum industry seems to build vacuums that last about 4-5 years now, unless you want to pay for something like a Miele and possibly a Dyson (I'm still not sure a Dyson will last longer than 5-7 years personally). There are some good deals though for less than $150 if you don't want to spend the money - the Shark Navigator and the Eureka Airspeed Bagless are two great machines you may want to look at. Q:I hear the Dyson Animal vacuum is the best thing out there but it has a very tall price tag.Is there anything similar that performs just as well that isnt so pricey?: Nothing really compares to Dyson vacuum cleaners. They are high priced because they are the best - their especially helpful to those who have asthma as they pick up virtually everything (dust mites etc). They pick up so much from deep in the carpet - I've yet to see another one like that. You could try the cheaper end of the Dyson family. I own one myself and wish I would have got one years ago. Even the lower end of the scale is better than the other brand of vacuums. Like pookyluc said, try OKorder or other online places if you can if it works out cheaper.

Q:Had a Bissell which was about $50, well it didn't last , and saw reviews on Eurekas, which were pretty good. Which do you use and where did you purchase your's for a good price? Not looking for expensive models, just something under $60.: I gave up on vacuum cleaners a few years ago. I use a shop vac. It works like a champ! Q:I have a Dyson Animal - what brand of Vacuum Cleaner do you use - Hoover, Dyson , Vax ..etc...: I have a vac that I bought from a local vacuume shop that was built to their specs. It cannot be bought in any store or even on the internet (at least the last time I checked). Delta is what it it called. It's has a very heavy duty motor which is considered to be commercial duty. Has 3 stages of filter plus the bags I buy for it are hospital grade hepa. What goes in that vac does not come out of it that is for sure. So I am not spreading more dust while I am trying to clean it up. It's a bit on the bulky side and awkward to get around with but I have found that with vacuumes there's always some sort of sacrafice to be made. You have to decide on what is important to you with the features and just pick what best suits you. This machine I can have serviced and it should last me most of my life. All parts can be repaired/replaced on it as needed. Because it cleans so well and keeps the dust contained rather than spewing it right back out I choose it over lighter weight cheaper vacs that are easier to work with. IMHO you should look at a vac store before buying out of any general merchandise store.
