Q:How do you rate steel?
medium-strong....you probably mean Steel 44... right?
Q:Damascus steel knife?
Pattern welded /damascus is too expensive to use as an everyday knife, as it can cost more than silver. It's best kept as a collection piece. You'd be stupid to keep it in your pocket or use it everyday. that would be a waste of money. Knives you use everyday might be lost or stolen, or they may get rusted, worn, or dirty..... ruining their value. From that point of view the strength or edge-holding ability means very little. Specifically, the bushcraft knife is pattern welded steel. True damascus or Wootz steel is something you'll only find in museums and private collections. they stopped making it several hundred years ago. Despite what many people have claimed, Wootz damascus was inferior to modern tool steels in every respect. It was a brittle, dirty material. It's legendary status has more to do with myth and storytelling. The reason they stopped making was undoubtaby because more modern methods came along that produced a more consistent product, more quickly and easily. Old technologies tend to be abandoned for good reasons. With pattern welded steel, about a dozen strips of two different grades of steel have been stacked, welded together, the twisted and forged to create interesting patterns. This more of an artistic process and doesn't improve the properties of modern steels. Pattern welded steel is for the most part, inferior to a homogenous blade made of a single grade of steel. First of all, PW is a handmade product which means there will be faults and oxide inclusions incorporated into the steel. The welding process is not perfect. Secondly, in the hardening and tempering process you end up with a compromise between the properties of the two different grades of steel. You end up with a product that is not quite as good as either steel would have been individually. The blade may either be too brittle or too soft.
Q:Which is stronger - sterling silver or stainless steel?
Silver is a relatively soft metal, while stainless steel is an alloy that has been designed for strength and durability. Your ability to use the stamp on steel will largely depend on the stamp's material. Why not just man up and give it a go?
Q:What were some steel advances in industries? 10 points!?
The single most important important advance in steel production was learning to accurately control carbon content. This was done through the Bessemer Process in which air was blown through molten iron to burn out impurities and excess carbon. Low carbon iron (wrought iron) could be easily worked into shapes. Medium carbon iron could be cast into useful and durable shapes. High carbon steel could be used for structural uses (beams and girders). Adding alloys such as nickel and silicon could produce very tough steels and steels resistant to rust. Adding vanadium to steel engine parts allowed Ford to produce finely machined engines in huge numbers with existing machinery.
Q:Steel Strings or Nylons?
There is no OR about it. You CANNOT use steel strings on a nylon string guitar because the increased tension will actually warp the top of the guitar and eventually pull the bridge right off! (I have seen it happen several times!) Although it is possible to put nylon strings on a steel string guitar it is not recommended. Nylon strings do not have as much tension as a steel string guitar is designed for. Steel string guitar necks are actually designed with a bit of back bow to compensate for the high tension of steel strings. Nylon strings have a much lower tension which could cause the neck of a steel string to settle slightly, which could actually cause the strings to fret out. It is not common, but it does happen. So keep your guitars happy and only string them with the proper strings.
Q:What is the level of dependability of 1055 carbon steel?
From okorder.com/
Q:i want to see the atomic structure of carbon steel?
This is actually a quite complex question... The atomic arrangement in steels can be controlled over a pretty wide range of different structures. This is really the fundamental reason why steel is such a commonly used material. The different atomic structures produce different physical properties so metallurgists have developed many different processes to control the atomic structure to get the properties they want. One simple answer is that Fe is BCC, body centered cubic at room temperature at equilibrium conditions. When you heat Fe up, it transforms to FCC, face centered cubic. If you continue heating Fe, it goes back to BCC, then it melts. The addition of C makes these structures (and the transformation temperatures) different. Deviating from equilibrium conditions by, for example, cooling very quickly (quenching) creates different atomic structures (one of the most important is known as martensite). Depending on how much C is in the steel, you can also have two different atomic structures (two different phases) present in equilibirum, for example, pearlite which is a mix of alpha Fe (BCC) and iron carbide Fe3C (orthorombic crystal structure). So... you need to think a little more about exactly what you want a picture of. I hope this helps
Q:aluminum vs. steel?
Go with Aluminum. Mirageguitarworks could not put it any better.
Q:how do you get broken steel?
There is no way to survive that bit, you always die. That's why you save just before you do that quest, leave, do EVERYTHING ELSE there is to do, and then when you're finally sick of the game do it. Anyway Broken Steel is a DLC pack for Fallout 3 that makes you survive that. It ups the level cap, continues the game, adds new missions and weapons and adds tougher monsters to fight. It's one of the best DLC for the game IMO. I'm not sure if it's released yet for the PS3 version, but it will be out soon if it isn't. Check the Playstation store from the PS3 main menu.
Q:How hot does steel?
Type your query into Yahoo! Search or other search engines to get the answer: It depends, since steel usually has different metals added for various properties (strength, corrosive resistance, etc.)
