Q:i want a good modern carbon steel (not stainless) knife. trying to keep it under 50$ also nothing to gruesome just a small pocket knife. thank you
Well, okorder /... They did make other folders in M2 steel, but the thing is those are out of production and the cost is very high. Spyderco made M4 steel folder knives, and so did Benchmade. Although, both are outside of 50$ budget. I guess Opinels are best option.
Q:What are the different methods of coil recoiling for narrow strip widths?
Some of the different methods of coil recoiling for narrow strip widths include slitting and rewinding, oscillating winding, and turret winding.
Q:What are the different grades of steel used in coils?
There are several different grades of steel used in coils, including low carbon steel, medium carbon steel, high carbon steel, and alloy steel. Each grade has specific properties and characteristics that make it suitable for various applications, such as automotive, construction, or manufacturing industries. The grade of steel chosen for coil production depends on factors such as strength requirements, formability, corrosion resistance, and cost considerations.
Q:would you consider steel a flexible substance...i am debating this with my coworkers. Thanks,
Yes, looking at it from an engineering standpoint. Depending on it's shape it can be used for many applications where flexibility is important. Steel springs for example, or guitar strings. Whenever you're debating these kinds of matters, it is important to keep in mind that the use of a material depends on the shape, the size and the weight it's going to be used in. A big block of steel will be used in a different manner as a piece of steel wire.
Q:Can steel coils be used in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment?
Yes, steel coils can be used in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment. Steel coils have high strength and durability, making them suitable for various applications in the machinery and equipment industry. They can be shaped, cut, and formed into various components, such as frames, shafts, gears, and structural parts, to meet the specific requirements of different machinery and equipment. Additionally, steel coils can be further processed and treated to enhance their properties, such as through heat treatment or surface coatings, to improve their performance and longevity in the manufacturing process.
Q:What are the different methods of welding steel coils?
Steel coils can be welded using various methods, each with its own advantages and applications. The most commonly used methods for welding steel coils are: 1. Resistance Welding: By applying pressure and electric current, this method generates heat and joins the steel coils. It is ideal for high-speed production and can be categorized into spot welding, seam welding, and projection welding. 2. Arc Welding: This technique involves creating an electric arc between an electrode and the steel coils, resulting in intense heat and metal melting. Different arc welding techniques include shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and flux-cored arc welding (FCAW). 3. Laser Welding: Laser welding employs a highly focused laser beam to melt and join the steel coils precisely. It offers excellent control, high welding speeds, and minimal heat-affected zones, making it suitable for thin materials and complex designs. 4. Electron Beam Welding: This method uses a concentrated beam of high-velocity electrons to melt and fuse the steel coils. It is commonly used for welding stainless steel and other high-temperature alloys, providing deep penetration and minimal distortion. 5. Friction Stir Welding: By plunging a rotating tool with a pin into the steel coils, heat is generated through friction, and the softened material is stirred together to form a solid joint. Although primarily used for joining aluminum, it can also be applied to steel coils. 6. Ultrasonic Welding: This technique involves applying high-frequency vibrations to the steel coils, creating friction and heat for fusing the materials. It is commonly used for smaller steel coils and provides fast and efficient welding with minimal distortion. These methods offer distinct advantages and are suitable for specific applications. The choice of welding method depends on factors such as the type and thickness of the steel, desired strength and quality of the weld, production speed, and cost considerations.
Q:How are steel coils used in the production of metal ductwork?
Steel coils are used in the production of metal ductwork as they provide a continuous and flexible supply of raw material. These coils are unrolled, cut, and shaped into specific dimensions to create the ductwork components. The steel's strength and durability make it suitable for handling high air flows and maintaining structural integrity, ensuring efficient airflow in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Q:steel strutural
Yes, it is classified for General structural purposes
Q:I just bought a used Taurus 85 stainless 38 spl revolver, it's about 25 years old but looks like new. This is my first stainless steel gun. I'm wondering if there's any special things I need to be aware of or cleaning methods? I'm also wondering if stainless steel could rust? in theory stainless means it cannot get stained or rusty. I have a chrome bore AK, cleaning is always super easy, wondering of cleaning a SS revolver would be the same.
Stainless steel does not rust. But your Stainless Barrel is not true stainless steel. True stainless steel is a mix of steel and chrome, and the chrome has a certaion percentage of the overal weight.. But a Stainless barrel does not contain enough chrome to be true stainless, so it can rust.
Q:What are chemical properties of high speed steel? Physical properties? What is high speed steel used for? One interesting fact about high speed steel?
wikipedia: High speed steel (often abbreviated HSS, sometimes HS) is a material usually used in the manufacture of machine tool bits and other cutters. It is often used in power saw blades and drill bits. It is superior to the older high carbon steel tools used extensively through the 1940s in that it can withstand higher temperatures without losing its temper (hardness). This property allows HSS to cut faster than high carbon steel, hence the name high speed steel. At room temperature, in their generally recommended heat treatment, HSS grades generally display high hardness (above HRC60) and a high abrasion resistance (generally linked to tungsten content often used in HSS) compared to common carbon and tool steels. see reference for more info .
