- Q: is it bad to leave wet rugs on horses?
- yes. 1st reason: it gives them rain scald, a fungi condition created by humidity under the rug( which is caused by damp or sweat. 2nd reason: they will get very cold and get the chills, if you have no replacement rug there better of without. what i sometimes do is bring them in the stable and take their wet rugs of and hang them up to dry, then go back in a couple of hours and put the dry rug back on. But i wouldn't do that if it was too cold, but they enjoy having some time without a rug on. hope i helped a little and i don't think its a stupid question at all.
- Q: Do most people prefer carpet over hardwood/vinyl/linoleum?Carpets collect dust hair mites and all things gross.. and you have to vacuum which costs money.. not to mention hard work and is loud and annoying. Also, many Americans wear shoes in their homes. So why would you want a flooring that collects the dirt on the bottom of your shoes? When has home carpeting become generalized standards for most homes? Anybody know?
- Most homes don't have carpeting at the entrance door where alot of people take their shoes off. Carpeting has a pad underneath it, unless it's like mine where I have underfloor heating in my ground floor living room. Little kids like to play sit on the floor, so carpeting is warmer/softer for them in the winter months. Most bedrooms are carpeted for barefoot warmth. (You can't fall asleep if your feet are ice). Mopping shampooing is work, shampooing a carpet is done less frequent. I'd rather have baby tip over and bonk his head on carpet than on a tiled floor. Full room carpeting became popular about in the 60's. Under floor electric heating is catching on, I have it in my bathrooms built in '99. ele ^ (my delete isn't working)

- if you can, hang it outside over a fence or put some chairs together so you can drape it over them and leave it outside all day and night...weather permitting of course. while it is outside take a broom and smack the rug in as many places as you can get too. when you take it back in try sprinkling baking soda on the back and sweep it into the backing. leave it on there for about 1/2 hour then vacuum, turn the rug and do the same thing to the front. baking soda is a neutralizer so it should help. have you tried spraying it with oust? maybe try that while it is outside too. i don't know if i would spray the front if it is a dark color but i would over spray the back. good luck! - Q: My mom has had a Karastan rug for 30 years now and it's in gorgeous condition and it has never once shed. It's also wool. I need to purchase one, but I don't like the old fashion designs on the Karastan rugs...does anyone know what other brand rug is equal to a Karastan rug that doesn't shed? I wish Karastan made more modern rugs in wool.
- Most new wool rugs will shed as that is there nature. The saleslady is correct in her assumption to a certain degree. Depending on your vacuum cleaner, it could take less than 3 months or it could even take longer. The main thing is not to worry, as there will not be any significant loss of overall weight due to the shedding. Also, if you have pets, keep an eye on them as they will often times mark a wool rug, sometimes on numerous occassions as they sense a competitive animal near by. If you do not have pets your self, be cautious of visiting pets as they will also mark the rug.(when pets mark a rug they use urine).
- Q: Can anyone help me with this. It is cold out at the minute but not actually such a big deal as he is in the stable at night. My problem is that he also has Sweet-Itch and I'd like to get him to accept a rug before April or I will be in trouble!! I just got him a few months ago and he is great with everything else! (plastic bags, traffic, horse-box).The rug I bought is a turn out rug and I know Sweet-Itch rugs are a lot more lightweight but I dont really want to splash out on one just yet untill I make some progress!!
- Maybe while grooming him, hold the rug in your arms and allow him to smell it. Everytime you groom him, allow him to see the rug. He'll become used to seeing it, so he'll think.. no biggie! Next part, after grooming, after allowing him to smell the rug, rub it gently around his body. Tell him he's being a good boy if he's standing still, even feed him treats so that he knows he's doing a good job. Eventually once he becomes familiar with the sound and the feeling of the rug, slowly rub it over his back and rest it there. Pat him and let him know he's doing a good job. And from there? Continue to do this until he's comfortable to wear the rug. It shouldn't take too long! Good luck :)

- If you want a cheap carpet, I wouln't bother with an online source. By the time you paid shipping, your price would be increased considerably. Try a carpet store that sells room-sized remnants. You may be able to find a piece large enough to lay wall-to-wall, or you could check into having it bound. Do you have Big Lots in your area? I'd check there, and also the classified ads in your paper. Sometimes people change out their carpet and sell large pieces. Do you have a Habitat for Humanity thrift store in your area? Check that out.

- Almost all rug sellers also have rugs repaired. They know people who weave rugs and they take your rugs and have them repaired. They also buy used 2nd hand - hand weaved rugs, and sell or exchange them for machine made or cheaper but brand new rugs. Then they take those 2nd hand rugs and have them repaired and they put much more expensive price tags on them. Sometimes they even find antiques. Everyone is happy. This been said, I don't know you well enough to offer your contact address to them, or them well enough to propose bu?siness with you. Sorry.

- Q: My male cat just recovered from a urinary tract infection. He urinated on my beautiful fairly new woven rug for the very first time (he ALWAYS goes in his litter box); that's how we knew he had an infection. Ever since that one little offense, he decided that the rug is his and he drags it around my house.
