- With all due respect to you and any others; CAN I is often part of a question asked here. The simple answer is YES! Will you be satisfied? Rarely. Tile is essentially glass; not at all designed to be painted; or have paint strictly adhere to it. You'll get answers that state a specific primer; or some suggestion to ROUGH UP the tile surface. I've been on the planet a long time; and have installed multiple thousands of sq. ft. of tile; and applied thousands of gallons of paint; but NEVER together. I'll just say; IF I was asked to do so; I'd refuse a job no matter how much the customer was willing to pay. It isn't something I'd want my name on when the paint starts peeling; or a fingernail happens to scratch it; or attempts to remove soap scum; create a large area of SKIN to come off with the scrubbing action. Are wall tiles able to withstand the pressure of walking? Any advice?
- The small thin wall tiles (4 inch square one) are no good at all for floors they will break. The larger wall tiles are generally much thicker and will do the job upto a point. As has been said by others you have to lay them properly or they crack. The real danger in using wall tiles is the smooth glazed surface, which can be as slippery as ice. One drop of water on the floor and whoops over you go! I suggest you get proper but cheap floor tiles - buy end of lines or odd ones that will make a good pattern

- it can be done by using a thin chisel or even an wallpaper scraper pushed behind each tile to break the adhesive seal. much will depend on the amount of adhesion and if the wall plaster is sound etc or the tiles are strong or thin weak and brittle. only by trail and error will you find out but there normally i find unless the tile is particularly well stuck to a wall it will in fact pry of easily and in fact you have to be ready to 'catch' it before it falls and shatters. watch out for broken tiles as the edges are extremely sharp .
- Q: We bought the tile. Our wall has new drywall behind (unpainted and clean). We are putting the tile from above the backsplash to under the wall cabinets. Can you please answer my questions:1) Do you prep the walls with anything? We bought this tub of stuff called Thinset... Is this the actual adhesive or is there something else used to put on afterward?2) We are doing our longest wall with counter and sink/window then corner and over to counter and stove then counter. Where would the starting point be? Corner or one wall?3) The wall cabinet on the open end is about 1/2 inch in then the base cabinet right below. If we start the tile from the bottom, when you get to the top, the tile will hang out from the wall cabinet by the 1/2 in. Do we use a straight line from the wall cabinet or base cabinet and it be off either way? 4) The tile is not coated or shiny. Once they are applied to the wall and then grouted and wiped clean, do you apply any coating?
- This is a long question. First it is not good to lay tile on drywall your best bet is to get the rock board for tile it is not that expensive. Take out the drywall where the tile is to go and replace it with hardibacker board. Just pick a side but it is best to start at the bottom when you lay the tile. Make your corner is square or your tile is going to be off. I am not sure about question 3 but you will have to cut the tile to fit. Use a level and try to cut to fit as you go. There is a little room to that you can play with but try to keep things close. Unless your tile is rough or there are a lot of holes in it, there is no need to seal the tile. The grout needs to be sealed. In the kitchen bacteria will grow in the cracks so put a coat of sealer on. Take your time and it will work out
- Q: I have never laid tiles before and I would like to work from the ceiling down. In the shower I am going to use thin set. the rest of the bathroom is green board. which I intended to use a tile adhesive.the reason I wanted to go from ceiling down is I think the layout will look better
- Why would you want to work from the ceiling downward? That makes little sense. One of the reasons you work from the bottom up is that the thinset isn't completely up to the task of holding up the weight of the tile before it's set. It holds the tile against the wall well enough, but the tile simply rests its weight on the surface before the thinset sets. Starting from the top down, you'll probably find the tiles slumping out of position before you can get the next course in place, and that will slump, and the next and the next.

- A very common decision to make when re-tiling is whether to tile over existing tile or remove the old tiles first. It is quite common to tile over existing tile, and should not be a problem, but there are a few points to bear in mind, or worth considering. If tiling over tile The existing tiles must be soundly bonded to the walls. Obviously, no matter how well fixed the new tiles are, if the old tiles de-bond from the wall and fall off, then so will the new ones. Make sure the old tiles are well fixed. One way to check is to gently tap them. If it sounds very hollow then they are likely not well bonded. Pay particular attention to wet areas which are more likely to have problems. The existing tiles need to be clean and free of grease or other contaminants which could affect the bond of the adhesive used for the new tiles. Some backgrounds such as plaster and plasterboard have a recommended weight limit for a square unit of measurement. That means that for instance plasterboard will have a maximum weight of tiles or stone you can fix to it, which if surpassed may cause a structural failure. This is unlikely to be a problem if both old and new tiles are smaller format, thinner tiles, but could be an issue if using large format, heavier tiles on top. It especially likely to be a problem with natural stone tiles which tend to be heavier due to their thickness. Only certain tile adhesives are suitable for tile on tile. Check manufacturers instructions .
